I was watching it but I'm far behind in homework. Since I have both of you on here, however, thanks for everything you both contribute to this site. Praise God for helping so many of us.
Andy, what are you going to do with this post? The feed is dead, right? At least keep it until Alex can read it. . . :DDD
Ok, so for those of us who have to work on Sundays :( .... could someone give more details here!!! I'm excited for Alex, but I'm not exactly sure why!! :D :D
Laurel, Alex was one of 100 Bible Bee contestants in the "Junior" (age 11-14) division that competed this weekend in the National Finals. On Friday morning, he qualified as one of the top 15, then Friday evening one of the top 5, then Saturday afternoon took 1st place in the competition.
Just as a sidenote (seriously!) he won $50,000. We all know what he has in his heart that is much more important. . . :)
[[Sorry about all that. I was just editing my comments so that later readers can know better what happened.]]
WOW!!! Thanks Phil, now I'm even more excited!!! I knew about the competition, and about the live feed, but was unable to watch. So appreciated reading the play-by-play, kind of like watching a taped football game! :D :D
Congratulations, Alex!!! That is a huge reward, and I'm impressed that the BibleBee organizers are able to bless with such a bounty! :) I pray for wisdom for you and your family as you seek God for direction in this. And again, CONGRATULATIONS, ALEX!!!! :)
Thank you everyone for your prayers and support. Everyone in the Bible Bee (both Locals and Nationals) did an amazing job and we were all blessed by the Shelby Kennedy Foundation's National Bible Bee. The most important part is not what is stuffed in our heads, but what is hidden in our hearts. Pray that God would continue to work in the lives of all the contestant families. And consider participating in next year's National Bible Bee!
Memverse.com has been very helpful in this, through the amazing online program and the encouragement of knowing about this community of Christians committed to memorizing God's Word. It has always been fun for me to see who has recently been memorizing (especially those in the Bible Bee, including Josiah DeGraaf, Rachel Eaton, the Kenniv family, and others.)
Congratulations, Alex! You looked so confident and into it! Great job. You are an inspiration to everyone else. . . :DDD
P.S. Alex, how far is Philly from where you live?
Great job, Alex!!!
@River--Alex lives around thirty minutes from me (I think) and we are about five hours away from Philadelphia.
We were praying for you too Josiah!! Do they have a ranking for those who didn't make it to the top five?
Oh, ok. I have a friend at another New Life PCA, in Philly; he just joined MemVerse, so I was wondering if you went to the same church. . . turns out not, so it's all good. . . :) So were you two at the same local Bee?
Yes, we were both at the same local Bee (and he beat me there in the Challenge round too ;) ) They haven't released such a list yet, although I hope they do.
Way ta go Alex!!!. To be able to memorize is hard enough, to say the verses in front of the world is another thing!! I'm proud of you!!! Well done:D
@River - Is his name Michael James? He belongs to our church on memverse, because we have put ourselves in "New Life Presbyterian Church (PCA)." I looked up the Philadelphia PA New Life on pcanet.org. Maybe he should put himself in as "New Life Church of Philadelphia (PCA)" as that seems to be the name. If you think that should work, could you ask him to do that? Thanks!
Ok, Alex. I was wondering about that. . . I'll tell him. . . Can you change your name too, then, so that this doesn't happen again with other people from other New Life PCA's????
I should add a field for the URL so that people can clearly identify their group if they have a web presence.
We'll see how Andy wants to handle it. Yes, we could change the church name on Memverse to include the area (Harrison City PA), to avoid confusion. However, Andy might be able to do something with the URL so that there can be several churches with the same name. (??)
I don't get what you two just said. . . several churches with the same name??? clearly identify their group???
Sorry. What I mean is that perhaps each church can have a unique ID on memverse, so that the software doesn't get them confused. Then we would be able to have a handful of "New Life" churches. Plus, if each has a different website, it would make it easier to tell them apart.
EDIT: In any case, I put myself and my family in "New Life Presbyterian Church (PCA) Harrison City PA" - so the problem is resolved. Thanks! :)
Primaries just finished and juniors are about to begin. Anybody else watching this?
