Don't know if there is a chat for this, but here goes.

So, this is a thread for questions (hence the title) and answers about anything to do with the Bible Bee.

I have some really random and somewhat irrelevant questions, so I was hoping that someone can answer them. (Because I've never done BB before)

Hi Joy! That's awesome - welcome to Bible Bee! I probably won't be able to answer all of your questions, but I'll do my best:) Fire away!

Thank you! (and I love your name, btw)

  1. Are the verses generally long?
  2. What do we do at study groups with our host?
  3. What is Bible Bee Proclaim! Day?

Thanks! It's actually a play on my middle name, Irene, because of the Greek word, Eirene, which has the same meaning. :)

Btw, what division are you in?

  1. The length of the memory passages depends on age division and the different levels of competition. For the local bee, there are usually 14 passages all of short to medium length. When you get to Nationals, the passages lengthen considerably, but there are still shorter passages as well.
  2. What you do at your meetings, or even if you have meetings at all, is up to your host. You can do a whole variety of different things including food and fellowship, Q&As, memory recitation, and different games and activities, some or all of which are designed or used to help the contestants study. Some hosts get really creative! :)
  3. The Bible Bee Proclaim! Day has been put to different uses the past few years. In the past, Proclaim! Day took place after the Qualifying Test, and was to give contestants a chance to quote a passage in front of their host groups, and also to announce local winners and National Qualifiers. It was a day of celebration rather than competition, like it was this year, when Proclaim! Day took place before the test and was used to do the required multiple choice tests and oral recitations. (if you got 50% or more you were eligible to qualify for Nationals when taking the Qualifying Test.)

I am a sophomore at school, but I'll be a Senior (feel so old!) for BB.

  1. Oh, ok.
  2. That sounds really fun!
  3. Oh, so like a recital?

Piece of Peace

Because you get the opportunity to show off what you learned. In the same way a musician would perform a piece to show what they had learned that year.

Goals that we make on the New Year's; such as trying to exercise more or give up a bad habit. Mine is to study verses more.

What exactly comes in the BB box? I saw on their website that the booklet is $20.

It has differed from year to year; but the main part is the Discovery Journals, and t-shirts if you ordered them.

Are there any promotional materials available online for the BB? I want to tell my church, so are there any fliers?

I discovered that I like conducting music, so I think I'll try to do that.

I'm going to sign up for the Bible Bee if I can and am looking forwards to Valentine's Day. :)

Yep, which is sad for us, because for the last three years it has been in San Antonio, which is where we live.

Oh, okay. 4 years. I guess not so sad because that means we get to take a family vacation! Well, whoever gets to nationals does with a parent.

Actually, normally pretty much what happens is the Bible Bee rents a convention center/hotel sort of place for people to stay in and the competition to take place. Last year, 2018, was different, in that the events were held at a church, and people stayed at different hotels nearby, driving back and forth. I don't think it's been announced yet this year(or else I haven't heard of it?), but I would assume it's going to be in a Conference Center again. And yes we do pay for the rooms, I think at a discounted price.
