2 Corinthians 5:17

I have a little sister (going on 9 years old) who would love to qualify this year. But like all 8 year old's, she doesn't want to study 24/7 ;D How can I help her best to maximize her time and study the best way possible?
What about reviewing? What are some fun ideas to help her review (and remember) what she's learning? :)
Thanks!

I haven't forgotten about the post I promised you a few months back…I'll try to start working on that after I finish the post that I'm correctly doing :).

Great, thank you Anna! :)

Her study goals for each day (as much as possible) are: doing a day or two in her Discovery Journal, memorizing and/or reviewing her memorized verses, and reading along to the audio of John 13-15. I'm also encouraging her to review a couple days or more in her SG each day, and she's done that and it seems to help =)

We've never done that great on getting Primaries to Nationals, unfortunately. :P So I'm not sure how much I could help you.

One thing that I think can help is asking random questions throughout the day – nothing they have to look up, just review. Maybe also randomly asking them to quote various passages. That way it's not all concentrated into one study session.

Oh, haha. xD Well, the Bible Bee has, like, completely changed since then. You didn't even have to memorize nearly all the verses in order to get to Nats, that year. =P

Rachel, it actually sounds like your sister is doing a good amount of studying. For the primaries in our local bee, we've found that just completing everything doesn't necessarily mean that they will do well on the test. I think a lot more depends on how well they retain the information they've learned (even if it doesn't seem like much). Maybe try to find the way your sister learns and tailor the studying time to fit her. I'm not sure that this is very helpful…we haven't had a primary in our family for a long time! ;)

It sounds like your sister is doing well! Like someone else mentioned, asking her random facts throughout the day, or just talking to her about things that you've learned helps a lot. Asking her what she thought about it will also help her to actually process everything rather than just following all the instructions in the DJ. I think that the main thing that I would recommend doing with her is practice tests. Primaries oftentimes have a hard time getting through the whole test before the time runs out, and even if they don't, they may have trouble with something as simple as clicking on the answer. You could start out getting her to take untimed tests/sets on Quizlet, and then as she gets more comfortable with that, you can have her take bigger practice tests.

Memorize. Everything. xP
That's what worked for me when I didn't want to study anything when I was 8 years old….
I memorized lots of Greek words and CRs, and every so often I got a reward based on how much I had memorized. It works pretty well, if you ask me.
