His Servant II (Bethany)

Okay, this is a post for us all to tell each other how we think we did at Locals (Obviously, that's tomorrow, but I wanted to make it ahead of time…) and if we qualify for Nationals.

Please hold off on posting on this forum, until you arrive home from Locals tomorrow :)

We're back from Locals! I got…drums rolling… 2nd place! Sarah Johnston beat me. Courtney got 1st place in Juniors, and Brianna got 5th in Primaries. Our Locals did not have a Final Challenge Round, so these are from preliminary scores, not from after final performance.

On the Oral Test, I got as far as I know, a perfect score. I didn't even get to the 2-minute mark. :) On the Written Test… there were a few questions that were super hard, but it was easier than I had expected. However, I did NOT expect THREE questions about the Offerings Chart! I didn't study that at all - I didn't think we needed to! :(
I especially liked the question about "What is the day of salvation, according to 2 Corinthians 6:2-10?" One of the answers was "August 25, 2012". I looked at that answer and immediately thought "That's not correct, it's too silly." But then I realized that none of the other answers said "today", which is what the passage said is the day of salvation. So that silly-looking answer was correct! Overall, I think I probably got 170 or more correct. :D
I thought it was cool that the Oral Test didn't include the five longest passages. I confirmed with my siblings that this was true in all three age groups. Now, isn't that something? :) Some of the other Seniors at Locals told me that they were disappointed that the long passages were taken out - they had learned those passages for the very reason that they thought Seniors would have all the long passages in the test. I personally didn't care, since I knew all of them.

Now, I feel like putting up my Sword Study and not getting it out again for a week. But then, on the other hand, I CAN'T WAIT TO FIND OUT IF I'M GOING TO NATIONALS! Kind of strange, huh? :P So, how did everyone else do?

EDIT (half an hour later): Oh, come on! Hasn't ANYBODY else finished Locals yet? I'm getting lonely! :P

BTW, what place did you get at your locals?

Pentimones, Alexanders, where are you? It just doesn't seem quite right without your families around. :)

We just back from the local competition…
It was so much fun!
I believe I got third place and then in the challenge round I got fourth place in the Senor division.
If I am wrong about this Octo or the Alexander's will correct me:-)
As to their scores they can announce it when they get here!
Are you sure that the correct answer for the day of salvation question was today's date? If it is I missed that one. It seemed really silly :-)
I was really surprised about the questions about the offerings too. I had not done much studying about them…
Can't wait until Wednesday to hear who will make it to Nationals!!!

I am very happy to say that I placed first in our final challenge round!!! :D :D I certainly didn't expect that! :) And, like Matthew, I finished the Oral round before the 2-minute mark–41 seconds before it. I didn't expect that either! The written test wasn't EASY, but it was certainly easier than I thought it would be. I think I did pretty well on it.

Also, when they asked anyone who wanted to quote a verse in front of a camera, I volunteered–and quoted 2 Timothy. :D I was surprised at how well I did, though I had to stop for five seconds on one part to remember the rest of the verse, and I also accidentally skipped 4:12, "I left Tychicus at Ephesus." But other than that, I did pretty well at it! I memorized it last week, when I was reading over it a million times to review for the written test. :D

I'd like to hear how others did… :)

Matthew - I got second place too! Cool huh? ;-)
Well, I was called up last (out of us five seniors), so I assume that I scored worst. But for the challenge round, I got second place!
[I know, I just broke my record time for going without commenting, but this is a special occasion, so…]

Martin–actually, the way they called us up had nothing to do with our scores, as far as I've heard. They just called up the top five, not in order of best to worst. I think. :)

I'm kind of glad our Locals didn't have a challenge round - that way I could know what place I actually got. That was very suspenseful in 2011.

Congratulations on getting first Nicolas! :D Who did you expect to win? Also, how did your siblings do?

We got home around 4:00 p.m.!

I finished the Oral Round with 2:40 left! I didn't get to finish the test but went ahead and filled in as many bubbles as I possibly could when our proctor said 1 minute.

And the place I got…4th place! :) I am so glad I placed - hey, it's not 1st but I'm glad I was well enough to do it! :)

Our local Bee didn't tell any of us how we actually placed in the written and oral rounds. They just called up the top 5 in each category for the final challenge round and gave out trophies based on our performance there.

Although I was called up as one of the top 5 Seniors, I, unfortunately, goofed up a couple of words in Luke 9:23-26 (the first passage I was given :P) and was disqualified before things really even got going.

But that aside, I felt like I did very well the rest of the day. SBG and I tied exactly in the oral round, both of us finishing with 2 minutes and 41 seconds left. Both of us made a couple of mistakes, I believe, but overall, I felt that it was successful.

The written test was challenging. The Memverse tests were a big help, so thank you to those who put them together! But, again, overall, I felt satisfied with how I did.

I can't wait to see if any of us HRBC-ers made it to Nationals!

I just back tabbed to different page grrr

Alrighty, here goes…

Test: Great! The test was easier than I expected! I think I did pretty good overall…we'll found out on Wednesday!
Orals: Perfect, I think!

Congrats to you all!!!!!! Such an exciting day :) We had over 60 contestants (biggest year ever at our Bee) and most of them were Juniors :) There were about 20 Seniors, 25 Juniors and 15 Primaries.

TO GOD BE THE GLORY!!!!!

61754db001e2e2ef52b2b9212cdda1ec?s=128&d=mm

Matthew Minica

Wow! 20 Seniors? For the past three years, we've had 7, 7, and 8, respectively. Next year we'll probably have even less, because the Smithes will be in Pennsylvania, and one or two other Seniors are in their last year. Joshua Smithe was telling me that last year nationally, there were about 600 Senior participants, 1500 Primary, and over 3000 Junior. Junior seems to be the most popular age group by far.

BTW, who won, you or Amy? :)

I am so excited and can't wait to figure out what placement I got.

For the test I think I did good. I felt that test was easy. I was able to finish the test and go back through my hard ones. I think that my oral round was perfect.

I came in 1st in the juniors and David came in 2nd in the juniors.

Oh, yeah, I forgot to say that :D Amy came in 1st! Though, when we all got called up to get our prize, they didn't give Amy anything! We went back to our seats, really disappointed. Though, a couple minutes later our local host called us back up saying that they had made a mistake - Amy had come in 1st!

Oh - I came in 3rd, by the way :D

Congrats you for coming 2nd! And tell Courtney good job on coming in 1st!!!! So exciting :D

That's okay…

So, explain more about the written test - do you think it was easier/harder than you expected? Did memorizing the cross-referneces help?

61754db001e2e2ef52b2b9212cdda1ec?s=128&d=mm

Matthew Minica

It sure did help! I didn't have much trouble with any of the cross-reference questions. The things that really stumped me were when they had different words that what I was used to seeing - like in the question something like "Which of these is NOT something that the Scriptures are profitable for according to 2 Timothy 3:16-17". I really had to think before answering that question, and I might have gotten it wrong - I'm not sure. The whole test was easier than I expected, though. For some reason, it seemed like they didn't ask as many questions about Greek words this year. There were more questions about the content of 2 Timothy itself, and how it relates to the memory verses.

A3806e5a47ff9fa527155bd268c37099?s=128&d=mm

His Servant

I know when I saw the first cross-reference question that I didn't know, I was like "Matthew and Courtney are not going to have any trouble with this!"

I thought the test was easier too :D

How did Courtney think she did? So, just guessing, but do you think you'll make it to Nationals?

61754db001e2e2ef52b2b9212cdda1ec?s=128&d=mm

Matthew Minica

I haven't actually talked to Courtney that much yet… I guess that's what comes from being in different age groups. From the little I heard from her, she did really well and didn't have much trouble. I think she probably did better than me.
Of course, just guessing, but I think I've got a good chance of going to Nationals. I remember last year, there were over 30 15-year-old National qualifiers - and in Juniors last year, I was in the top 10 or 15 14-year-olds. So if past statistics has anything to do with it, I'm going :)

A3806e5a47ff9fa527155bd268c37099?s=128&d=mm

His Servant

Well, go and ask her! I guess you're to busy commenting though :D

I hope I'll qualify, but it's up to the Lord! I'll just wait and see…and hope it's not to stressful during that time!!

Did anybody else think that the written test was hard? I sure did, and so did everybody I asked in our Bible Bee. I did not place unfortunately, I think it was the written test that killed me. I am happy to say I got all the cards in 9 minutes 59 seconds!

I thought it was hard… I didn't study geography or context of the verses very much at all, and there were a lot of questions like that. :(

Bethany, I got third place too! They had to go back to our previous scores because only one person was eliminated. I (and several other KJV kids) think I made a mistake on the last verse I was asked though….so I should have gotten 4th place.

Btw, we went and had ice cream with some of the families after our Bee, so we just recently got home. :)

I think that I did well. On the written test I thought it was very easy, and on the orals there were two passages that I didn't know I asked for 1 hint and made 3 mistakes as far as I know. The timer messed up so I had to restart the whole thing:( but I got a better score the seccond time…..so good news and bad news. I got 4 place through the bee

I finished first in our Senior division!!!! Yay!!! I was so excited!! My gut feeling is that I missed one word on my oral round. As far as my test goes, it felt pretty good but I have no idea if it passes muster for national qualification. I'll just have to learn to wait patiently for Wednesday.

Yes, this is a little late… but after the Bee, we ended up staying at a friend's house until 8 pm, and then everyone had to get to bed.

I got third place overall in our bee. I did think the written test was harder than usual this year. I can't wait to find out if my younger sister (Bethany Frisk/BBB Bethany Bible Bee) got a National invitation! Since I've already competed at Nationals twice and Bethany never has, we decided our family was only going if Bethany qualified.

I thought it went pretty well. :) The test format was way different than what it was in previous years, but I think that overall, my experience was a good one! I got 1st place in my bee among the Seniors and my brother got second. My sister also placed 1st in the Junior division. :)

2 Corinthians 5:17

How did I do? Well, I'll know for sure on Wednesday! ;-)

But right now, I think I did pretty well….the written test was pretty easy!!!! I am so happy that there weren't very many cross references and Greek words. The oral round, went very well….

We had a pretty small bee, 5 in each division.

I am very happy, I placed first in the Seniors!! :D Praise the Lord!!

I'm not sure how I did (what my score was) there was five people in our SD bee and I finished second. I know that the score was really close between first, second and third. 1. Kayla Erickson 2. me 3. Levi Erickson

That's what I was thinking too. High 600s or low 700s, but I'm not sure. I know Primaries was high 500s and Senior lowest was a little lower than Junior lowest, whatever that was.

If this year's Primary scores are similar to last year's, it's likely! :) My Primary sister last year got a middle 500s score and she was #109.

@ Ian R.2 ,and @all Bible Beer's(people in or associating with Bible Bee ;)) I did think that the written test was somwhat hard, I may have got 3/4 of the way through. I found the main trouble was that I went too slow and didn't know the cross refrences (at all) I went 'where did they get that, …oh it has somthing to do with a crown etc. that actually was in the sword study.' I saw this (and the fact that I was too slow) when I took the memverser's primary BB test (I believe that the senior test wasn't yet availible) and was going to study that but didn't. On my verses I thought I did okay but didn't know all of them perfectly and made mistakes in a few regretably passed one after botching it (retrosepect told me i could have fixed it) and ended up with time to spare Idk how much but I don't recall seeing the 2 min sign. Through all that I ended up being 1st in our small Bible Bee with 3 seniors. We didn't have a final challenge round at our BB (so all 3 seniors placed) instead we had a closing program that included all 25 passeges being recited by our group (not in unison) in front of the audiance.

My ID number is 000342. I've found that if I want to find a particular person on the scores list, and if I know they qualified, I can usually find them by looking at the list of National qualifiers (the list of names, not the scores) and find their city, then search for that city on the scores list. Usually, there's only one qualifier from each city, and if there's more than one, they are most often siblings. However, last year there were three Juniors (including the highest scorer) that were NOT siblings from San Jose, CA - Rionna Flynn, Jonathan Pang, and Peace Lu - so I couldn't find out who got the highest score at that time. So there are exceptions.
