Hey All!

I am a terrible test taker (haha… big surprise! :P), and I just wanted to post and ask all you Bible Bee-er's if you had any tips, etc.

Let me know! :)

The written test was always the hard part for me too:) I always never felt prepared, but, here's some helpful hints:)

Take the time to read each possible answer! If you don't know the answer, take your best guess!

Remember, You don't have to think of the answer you just have to choose the right one!

Also one thing I Found helpful, was to just take lots of tests on different subjects for practice, and to gauge your time!

2 Corinthians 5:17

For me, my problem is the trick questions. How do you know if one is or not?! And if there are two answers that would both work, which one do you choose? :-s

SavedByGrace

You'd choose the one that looks the most likely! :D And there aren't really many trick questions, as long as you know the material. :)

Alright, here's some things to think about with multiple choice tests:
Remember that you're on a time limit… I think there's about 15 secs. per question. (Can't quite remember) Try to move through the easier questions quicker so you can reflect a bit longer on the harder ones.

Remember you're taking multiple choice, which means the answer is already on the paper… All you have to do is sort out the right answer. Easy, right?!?! Some people use process of elimination, it works well, but it can take a bit of time. Multiple choice is conventionally written like this: there are four answers. Two of them will be completely out of the question, one we be almost right, and one will be the right answer. problem is, BB tests seem more like: four answers that could all be correct! Still, there are times when you can use this principle and I think it works quite well!

I read through the question and simultaneously try to come up with an answer for it, then instead reading all the answers, I look for the correct one. If I don't know the answer, I read through all the answers and then chose the one I think is right based on all the answers.

Use logic… this is kind of broad, but it still applies!

I have heard that some people try to think as the test writer…. Never actually tried this, but I think it would work!

Also, take lost of tests… Quizlet is a great place to start. But also take multiple choice math tests, history tests and so on… It's great just because it'll help you become more comfortable and confident about taking tests.
(Once in a while, I take a test on material I don't even know. I think it helps making logical choices on answers that you don't know!)

One more thing, write down the #s of the ones you're not sure about, and then look back at them if you have more time… but be careful about changing your answer and don't do it unless you're sure you know the right one!

Over all, just do your best!

Well, that's about all I do… I think it works… At least for me!!!

Seriously? I think we all have made typing mistakes before, so lets try to be gracious here, and not make Jordan feel bad for what he didn't realize;)

Just go through and fool every bubble remaining with b as the answer. Then if there is still time left I work through as many as I can.

Here are my test taking tips that I posted on another form. I hope they are helpful to you!

  1. Make sure you understand the content of the book of the Bible, don't just memorize it.

  2. Take every practice test you can, and learn from the mistakes you make on those exams, so you're sure not to make them on the actual test.

  3. If you run out of time, and still have blank questions, answer the question, with only one answer choice. For example, if you run out of time, answer all the remaining questions as 'B', or 'C', don't randomly select answers.

  4. Make sure you read the whole question, and all the answers, no matter if you think you already know the answer. I found the Bible Bee tests especially, you need to read every answer, before picking the best one.

  5. Make sure the grammar of your question matches the grammar of your answer. Make sure it makes complete sense grammatically.

  6. Answers with "always" "all" "none" "best" "only" or "never" things like that, are generally wrong. Answers with "usually" "frequently" "some" "often" "possibly" or "mostly" things like that, are most likely correct.

  7. Treat every option as true or false. That way you can eliminate all the false answers, and choose the correct one.

  8. Often the correct answer is the one with the most information. But NOT always, so read each answer carefully.

  9. Test writers often attempt to hid the correct answer in the middle of the pack. Statistically, the correct answer is more often 'B' or 'C'.

  10. Don't worry about the pattern of the answers (like answering 'B' four times in a row), test writers sometimes do things like that to trick you up.

  11. Look for the correct answer in another question, it is likely various questions will shed light on each other.

  12. An "All of the above" answer is often the right answer. If you see at least two correct statements, "all of the above" is right.

  13. If two answers for one question are exactly opposite, changes are high that one of them is correct. But that is not always the case, so evaluate each answer carefully.

  14. Test writers will sometimes make an answer mostly correct but add something little that makes it false. Common limiters include, names, dates, and places. Example: "The discovery of the new world by Columbus in 1482 was important because…" See what's wrong with this answer? It's easy to miss.

  15. Watch for words with double negatives, and negative prefixes like: im- ir- un- non- in- or the like.

  16. For numeric questions, look for the similarities between answers. Figure out what answer shares the most characteristics with other answers. It is likely the correct answer.

  17. For the most part, don't change your answer unless you miss-read the question initially, or just randomly guessed.

There are always exceptions to these rules, so don't consider them law, but carefully read each question and answer, and evaluate it based on your knowledge.

Does anyone else have tips that work for them?

Try to finish your test early so that you can double check it. I finish in about 45-40 minutes. I also like to mark the answer I gave on the test book. I put a check or something next to the answer I chose. So when I double check my test I don't have to look at the bubble sheet.

Read the question and all answers for the written test. In the test booklet, mark each question (such us a question mark for not understood questions) with your own marks so you can come back to the ones you don't know later. Use elimination, too. If you have like 10 questions left and only 10 secs, fill in all the answers with the same choice (A, B, C, and D). You will be bound to get SOME right. Take educated guesses.
For the oral round, I suggest that you might want to close your eyes while saying the passages. Relax.
Most importantly, PRAY!!
