The Official Bible Bee Passage Memorization Tracker Forum
Started by SarahSarah
Alright everyone, as you already learned from the title, this is the official Bible Bee passage memorization tracker forum. In simpler terms (because I think they're probably needed in this case), post here when you've reached a memorization goal. Knowing my fellow Memversers, I think we'll have someone on here by next Saturday saying that they finished all the passages. :-D But who knows…
Bethany Frisk (RD)
Haha. But I usually learn them for weeks and then they just jump out at me.
Dani(elle)
Lol
Jedidiah Diligence Breckinridge III
I've got 26 of the 61 memorized already, though to varying degrees of proficiency, so my goal is to memorize the rest by next Saturday.
This is only five verses per day, which is not much, if you were part of the bee back in '10 and '11, when the Seniors had to memorize 14 per day. We'll see how it goes.
2 Corinthians 5:17
Wow! Then what are you going to do?
I have about 10 of the 61 memorized….oops! make that 11! I memorized the first verse: Psalm 111:10! :)
I'm going to try to get the verses done by my birthday: July 25th, if not before :)
Cow
I think you forgot a "one" :)
2 Corinthians 5:17
Oops! Sorry 'bout that!
What do you think of the study book?
K
I think I'm probably going to have all the verses done by the end of June. :)
Jedidiah Diligence Breckinridge III
I'll work even harder on 1st John, memorizing it, and make all sorts of flashcards for the SS.
Cow
Haha, I know this sounds dumb, but I think I like it even more than James :) plus, it was my secret backup book, so I have the first two chapters memorized B-)
Cow
So while I'm on here, I guess I'm going to have to say this… :( I'm leaving Memverse temporarily. Starting tomorrow I will not be on the forums, but I will check in for quiz times and try to attend some of those. After locals I'll be back on here for a few days until Nationals start, and then I'll be off until the end of November. I'll miss talking with you guys a lot, and I will continue to pray for you all. Happy studying!!! =)
Dani(elle)
Aw! We'll miss u! :)
Cow
I'll miss you too! But hopefully I'll be able to get my goals done because of it. A blessing and a curse =)
Cow
You know what? That last comment sounded kind of sketchy :P it's not that I don't love Memverse… I love it a lot :) it has helped me retain many memory verses. However, I don't think it's really necessary for locals. Now that I think about it, I might use Memverse to study for Nationals (if I make it!), but I think I would probably be tempted to go on the forums a little too much, and plus because there's such a small number of verses, it's easier just to memorize them from the card. :)
2 Corinthians 5:17
We'll miss you! I've been thinking of taking a Memverse forum break too…
Cow
It's a good idea, especially if you wanna get to Nats :) we should make a forum group just for that lol jk jk that would defeat the purpse ;) seriously, though…I know it's super hard, but it's worth it :)
2 Corinthians 5:17
It sometimes takes a lot of time to look at everything! :-/
How many hours are you planning to study each day? How are you going to study besides the SS and verses? I need all the help I can get! :D
Cow
Alright, getting off now…seems like forever :'( ttyl at the quizzes! :)
Cow
Oh, sorry, didn't see this :)
I'll reply in just a minute…
2 Corinthians 5:17
Okay! We'll Miss you Hannah! sends you a cyber hug
Edit: okay…
Matthew Minica
I finished the first six passages today. Well, I actually already knew four of them… :)
2 Corinthians 5:17
Wow! Good for you!
We were gone a lot today, so I wasn't able to get a "head start" like last year :) I've memorized the first one, and am working on the Jeremiah one now :)
ServantOfTheKing
I've memorized the first three passages today.
Cow
Sorry, Rachel…I got called away cause I had to do some chores :) I'm gonna answer this tomorrow :) thanks!
Jarrett
okay!!! sounds good
also can someone tell me who to send a message without having to say "in reply to"
thanks!
TBBB
Emily H
If you click way up at the top the "reply" button, it won't say "in reply to…" :)
Jarrett
thanks!
Dani(elle)
Don't leave us too! :)
Cow
Okay, so this is my advice for locals.
Disclaimer: This might make you go crazy. I'm not responsible if someone finds you running down the street screaming with your hair on fire. Okay, maybe I am =D
So, here's my raw schedule. I know a lot of these things don't apply…I'll explain in a minute :)
6:00: Get up
6:05: Devotions (Psalms)
6:10: Two days of Sword Study
7:15: Breakfast
8:00: Get ready/leave for park = review verses in car and while exercising!

9:45: Omnibus
11:00: Subject 1
12:00: Lunch

1:15: Math with Rachel
2:15: Subject 2

4:30: Two days of Sword Study

6:30: Commentary reading
7:45: Balancing the Sword
8:00: Omnibus/Empty dishwasher
9:30: Devotions (1, 2, and 3 John once and a chapter of John and Revelation)
10:00: Bedtime
As you can see, no time for computer anymore :)
This is for Monday-Friday. I don't have a schedule for the weekend. I get up at 6, cause this is when I have the most time to get stuff done without being nagged by innocent little siblings :) I don't think Psalms really has anything to do with 1 John, but I love Psalms, so yeah :) Okay, Sword Study. Yes, I'm getting the SS done in 3 weeks. Yes, it's crazy. Yes, it's working. That way I'm going to have a lot of time to memorize as many Greek words and cross-references as I can, as well as studying out the verses. I love breakfast :) Our family goes to the park every day M-F to exercise, and that's when I read through the verses as many times as I can. Omnibus is just one of my school subjects that I'm really behind on… and I'm not going to be done with school ever this year. So Subject 1 is just whatever I want to do that needs to be done most. Probably Algebra right now :) After lunch, I have a memorization period. I'm memorizing a week every day. So I take one passage and memorize it. After that, I have to do math with my little sister, who doesn't like math, which makes it extremely difficult to live for about an hour =) After that, I pick another subject and do it. Then another memorization period, just memorizing the other passage. Then on to 2 more days of SS :) after that, I have dinner and do dishes…boring :) but I usually review verses that I learned that day while I'm doing it, because there's a little ledge right by my sink that I can set cards on. :) After that, I read commentaries. I try to get at least one chapter done, more if I have time. Right now I'm working through John MacArthur's 1 John commentary, and then I will read some more on 1 John, and maybe some on 2 or 3 John or John. Balancing the Sword is a Bible study thing that has 3 questions per chapter, and it's split up into two books, which gives me 30 questions for 1 John and a whole lot of cross-references :) Then more Omnibus while I empty the dishwasher again :) For evening devos, I try to read all of John's books, and then go to bed at 10:00 so I can do it all over again tomorrow. So basically, you can take this if you want and make it fit. See, the question is not, "How many hours do I study a day?" It's, "How many hours can I possibly suck out of this day to study as much as possible?" Besides school, we're not extremely busy over the summer, so most of the time I'm at home. I understand that some of you will have a lot of other important things to do, but make the most out of your time.
After I'm done with the Sword Study and the verses, one memorization period will turn into a cross-reference memorization period, one will turn into a Greek word memorization period, one of the SS time blocks will turn into reading the SS through as much as I can, and the other one will turn into studying out the cross-reference and verse context and meanings. It's all or nothing, people :) "Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it." 1 Cor. 9:24
So, with that in mind, if you want to make it to Nationals, then set a goal for yourself. Not really a studying goal (although definitely do those too!), but a contest goal. If you were 98th last year, then tell yourself that your goal is to be 75th or lower. If your score was 770, then try to go for at least 800. If you were second at locals, try to be first. Yes, actually I do select people that I want to beat and then go for it. Not malicious or anything, and they're usually my friends, but…it helps me :) Make long-term goals, and then think about them every time you don't want to study or just don't feel motivated. Keep the motivation up. I don't know about you, but I am super-competitive, so I usually guilt myself into studying whenever I don't want to. But honestly, now that I've studied so much, studying is like default version or something. It's not really hard, and I find it to be enjoyable. Anyway, whatever works for you. This is just how I'm going to live my life for the next three months. :)
Oh, yeah…I almost forgot :) Here's a list of what I need to do everyday at the least :)
Monday-Friday:
- Devotions (Psalms) and Devotions (1, 2, and 3 John once and a chapter of John and Revelation)
- Four days of Sword Study
- Review verses
- 2 memorization periods
- Commentary reading
- Balancing the Sword
Saturday:
- Devotions (Psalms) and Devotions (1, 2, and 3 John once and a chapter of John and Revelation)
- Review verses
- 2 memorization periods
- Balancing the Sword
Sunday:
- Devotions (Psalms) and Devotions (1, 2, and 3 John once and a chapter of John and Revelation)
- 2 memorization periods
We keep the Sabbath on Sunday, and if some of you find 2 memorization periods on the Sabbath to be wrong, then don't do it. I guess it might be considered work, but I enjoy memorizing and want to do it :) Oh, and btw, sorry if I should've put this on the Advice forum :(
2 Corinthians 5:17
I'm not going to leave totally, but I'm not going to be on as much this summer…I'll be posting less.
2 Corinthians 5:17
Wow, thanks Hannah! :) You wrote a lot! Thanks for sharing, I'll probably apply some things like you shared. And yes, I'm a very competitive person too :D
Cow
Let's start a forum for competitive people. NOT. :P
Dani(elle)
That could get ugly fast! :P :) lol jk
Cow
Yeah. And it would defeat the entire purpose of being competitive altogether… we'd be arguing about who's more competitive instead of studying :P
Cow
All right, getting off the forums now…FOREVER. "FOREVER?" FOREVER. Wow. That was extremely random. No, not forever, just until August 25th! I cannot wait :) Happy studying, everyone. God bless!
Emily H
Bye Hannah! We'll sorely miss you! :) Happy studying to you as well!
SavedByGrace
Goodbye, Hannah! Thanks for sharing your advice! :)
