Hey AKScribe/fellow Memversers,

Trying to understand how memverse works. I signed up onto memverse recently and had already memorized quite a few verses, but it still took me a long time to get any of the verses "memorized"; seems like well after I signed up. The FAQ section mentioned that a verse is considered memorized once its "interval is above 30 days". Does this mean any verse that is in "learning" status will be considered memorized as long as the interval is over 30 days, regardless of any other factors (ie, how we rate the ease with which we are memorizing the verse)?

Thanks

Hello, sister, I am not completely sure of this either, and I thank you for asking it.
What I have heard in the past is if you get/put a 5 on it 30 times, then it will turn to memorized. This is one part of memverse that I do not like. I can have a verse word perfect within 15 minutes, easy, just sitting outside on my swing, but with memverse, you have to keep going over it over and over.

Hi, Sister & Waky-Zaky, great questions. Both of you are slightly off in your understanding. Let me see if I can help clear up some confusion.

1 - A verse will automatically move to a "Memorized" status when its review interval equals or exceeds 31 days. Until that is reached, the verse is still under a "Learning" status.
2 - Thankfully (and I'm REALLY thankful) I do not need to put a "5" on any verse for 30 times before it is memorized! I am currently using a different memorization tool outside of Memverse for memorizing chapters and books of the Bible. But I've integrated it within Memverse so that it also meets my needs. I hope to have a Memverse Blog post or two this fall that will share this in more detail. But whenever I start to review these special chapters on Memverse, here is what happens:

(a) my first full chapter review on Memverse–all verses are assessed at a Level 5. That results in my next review session for them being 4 days from that day;
(b) my second full chapter review on Memverse–all verses are again assessed at a Level 5. That results in my next review session for them being 9 days from that day; [NOTE: I am still reviewing the chapter 100% of the days in between my Memverse review days, but not on Memverse.)
(c) my third full chapter review on Memverse–all verses are also assessed at a Level 5. That results in my next review session for them being 21 days from that day;
(d) my fourth full chapter review on Memverse–all verse are still assessed at a Level 5. That results in my next review session for them being 50 days from that day!!! GUESS WHAT??? This 4th review session is when all of those verses in that chapter flip from being "Learning" to being "Memorized". This has taken only 4 review sessions, not 30, but only if you are assessing them all at Level 5 each time.
(e) and in case you are wondering, a fifth full chapter review, assessed at a Level 5, will result in the next review session being 125 days from that day/date; the sixth full chapter review, will result in the next review session being 313 days from that day/date; and (though I haven't got there just yet), I believe the seventh full chapter review will result in the next review session being 365/366 days from that day/date–thereafter, I would anticipate that chapter being probably reviewed on that same day/date annually (but I won't know until another year or two pass by so I can test it out :) ).

I justify assessing them at Level 5, because every single day between these Memverse review sessions, I am still reviewing them . . . up to 100 consecutive days (without missing a day). That really does help to cement them into my mind a whole lot better. I also do these full chapter assessments at Level 5 in order to keep the chapters altogether with the same review day/date. After they stop at about 366 days (that is, the chapter will now be reviewed once a year), if I run into any problems, I will "practice" those 'forgotten' verses using the Learn / Learn procedure tool on Memverse.

NOTE: If you are using other assessment levels than a 5, then this process with be longer. I only do the above on the chapters I am memorizing using this other 'offline' memorization program, which I'm incorporating into Memverse at strategic points. All of my other 'regular' Memverse verses, I do assess them between 3, 4 or 5.

NOTE 2: If you ever rate a verse a 1 or a 2, because you have simply forgotten it, if it had been previously memorized, it will lose its 'memorized' status, and it will be put back to the beginning of the 'learning' status process. Consequently, I never rate a verse a 1 or a 2 after I have started to learn it because of that. I will simply use the Learn / Learn process that same session that I found it to be difficult. This is just how I am doing this, so that it fits within my purposes/goals. You may easily prefer to do things exactly as they are being suggested by the developers in the pop-ups that appear under each assessment level. And you would be perfectly fine to do that, too.

Any other questions regarding what I've shared? Let me know.

Thank you AK, for correcting me on that! I wasn't sure about my answer at all, and I'm glad you corrected me.

Hi Waky-Zaky, you are welcome. :) Still very much exploring the Memverse world, and there are many things to figure out still. I haven't been able to figure out this question, and like you, it can feel so much longer and delayed after I've memorized a verse before memverse labels them as such (as you are saying, much longer after I've actually memorized), I'd like to know more about why that is happening! It can seem like an eternity — lol

Hey AKS,

Thank you for your very detailed explanation, and how you use the general process to help you manage to keep your books of memorized verses together and being prompted by memverse together at regular intervals. I like your general idea of trying to find a way to get memverse to help us work out our own best memorizing strategy. I am still working on understanding how memverse works so I can further hone my strategy. (In other words, I'm sure I'll still have a few rounds of questions before I can get my strategy worked out.)

You mentioned that you use another program for your daily memorization…is that an online program like memverse?

Anyways, your explanation helps me understand why some of my verses are getting split up in terms of when each one gets "memorized". I will generally rate each verse "naturally" according to how well I'm doing on memorizing them, and usually don't go below a 3. Is it accurate to presume the "memorized" label is based only on how we are doing when we are doing the "review>verses"? memverse doesn't use our responses on "review>references" or "review>accuracy test" to compute the days of review for a verse?

AK (a scribe)

Hi, Sister, yes, you are correct. Memverse does NOT use responses on reviewing references or accuracy tests to compute the days of review for a verse. Only your main memorization session's verses is used to calculate the number of days until the next test, based on how you rate it (e.g. 3, 4 or 5).
No my other memorization program is not online. It is solely manual (or whatever is not online). :) I don't use memory flash cards or anything else than just my Bible and the charted review program (that I have set up to lay out my memorization / review plan). (I hope to have more explanations of it in a Blog post later this fall for all Memverse users to learn about.)
Again my system as explained above is ONLY used on the Bible chapters/books that I am memorizing using this offline system. Because I am reviewing these chapters daily, then I feel 'okay' with rating them as a "5" once I have moved them to Memverse. After 100 days (without missing a chapter review), then they will be solely left to whenever they come up on Memverse on an annual basis (or close to it until that happens). Hope this isn't too confusing.

Hey AKS,
Thanks for the answers. Helpful as I think about how to improve my Memverse strategy.
No, makes sense, not confusing. Yes, I understand why you are rating them a 5.

Does anyone know how many "levels" there are in Memverse? Scanning the leaderboard, it looks like there are at least 49!

Also, is there a way to access the old information in the levels if we wanted to review again the previous "level" answers?

Great on your first response!
I believe there are only 49 levels (but there might be a 50th level, but I'm not positive). I know a few years ago, there was talk about a 50th level (or higher) being developed, but I'm not sure where that conversation went, as it was on the old "Get Satisfaction" social platform that was kind of pulled out from under our feet by the owners of that platform, who no longer wanted to provide it for free to anyone, Memverse included.
In regards to the second question, I do not know of any way that the previous levels can be accessed. I am hoping (thinking) of putting together an FAQ that would share what the achievement requirements are for each level. Again, this had been done under our Get Satisfaction platform, but it wasn't retrieved/saved (according to my knowledge) at the time that we lost it.

That is a lot of levels! I'm discovering that Memverse seems to have quite a depth of features to it. I just learned how to tag my verses! I kept going back and forth back to the level "article", which also has some great comments in it too. I was hoping it was in a blog somewhere onsite.

I like your idea about the FAQ. I honestly haven't spent a lot of time learning about the website and all of its different features, and until just a couple weeks ago, couldn't figure out what the levels were all about. It's probably on here somewhere, but couldn't find it, and just stumbled on it accidentally. Is there something written up on levels? If so, where is it?

Hmm. Sounds like Memverse may have lost a lot of things when they lost the Get Satisfaction platform…
