At the same time, if the Lord is leading you to switch, it can end up being a great blessing, because you will see things differently than you ever did before :) I used NASB for about the first 17 years of my life, and decided to switch to ESV. Everything was so fresh and more meaningful since the wording was different than what I was used to. I will never forget the first time I read the book of Hebrews in the ESV - I was glued to it and absolutely could not stop reading, it was simply so vivid and real.

Sorry to jump into the conversation, I just always feel like putting in a word about switching versions!

God's Maiden of Virtue

Ah, 1 Corinthians 13 was a challenge for me too - for pretty much the same reason, except I had offcially memorized it 2 years ago in NIV, so it was still pretty fresh in my head. :P :) (I use NKJV too, btw)

I've used NKJ for BB this year and last year, but 'cause our pastor will probably use ESV I figured I might as well switch to ESV so I don't get too messed up. :) He'd be able to help me with my studying better, plus, I kinda like it better than NKJ. ;)

Today I read Genesis 36-42. It's always amazing to me how God worked through all the bad things that happened in Joseph's life!

I'm not going to stick to a schedule, just start at the beginning and read my way through, seven chapters a day. I'm not one to worry over a few paragraphs' difference. :-)

Yes, I did do my Bible reading today :) I read Matthew 10-15. Did you?

Hey…did Memverse just stop working for any one else? It won't let me post a new comment anywhere!

I know nobody asked me, but I'll tell y'all anyway. ;) Today I read Psalms 107-109.

(BTW, I mistakenly said yesterday that I read Psalms 106-108, but I had really read Psalms 104-106. Oops. :})

Did my reading today and yesterday. I've slightly modified my plan, and I have a question. For those who have done the 10 chapters a day in various parts of the Bible, how long does it take you? Apparently it's supposed to take about 45 minutes, but it's only taking me 10. Maybe I should slow down? But it doesn't feel like I'm rushing. Just reading at comprehension rate.

How's everybody been doing with their Bible reading? :) What plans do y'all have regarding this for the new year?

Oh, great books! Awesome!

I've been reading through Psalms, 2 Chronicles, Revelation, and Zechariah/Malachi. :) I'm going to do a ninety day reading plan and then read through the NT again twice before June 1. :)

I finished my reading plan for this last year, and for the New Year I'm planning on doing a reading plan with a bunch of other people at my church. :) We'll be reading through the OT once, NT twice, and a Psalm a day.

I'm also planning on reading Spurgeon's Morning and Evening devotional.

Hi, Carissa!
I'm finishing up Revelation before 2015, and then I think I will read a chapter of the Bible several times through and summarize it or something. It will probably take me awhile to get through the whole Bible like this (maybe even several years), but I think it will be helpful. Oh, and I'll probably take breaks from it, too, and read something else (especially during BB :)).

That's a great plan! Each day after I read I'm going to write a sentence about each chapter I read…and hopefully I'll have it done before BB…

That's a good idea!
I'm thinking some about doing a Bible reading plan that our Church is about to start, but then it would take even longer to finish (and start) summarizing the whole Bible, so I haven't really decided.

Where have y'all been reading in the Word? :)

Just finished Leviticus this morning, so I'll be starting Hebrews tomorrow :).

EDIT– Oh, and I've also been reading Psalms.

Wow! This hasn't been posted on in quite some time.

I have a question for y'all. I may or may not follow your suggestions, but I'm definitely interested in hearing your thoughts on this. I'm almost done reading through the Bible this year, and although I won't be reading the whole Bible through again in the next six months, I haven't decided if I'll continue doing daily Bible readings separate from my Bible Bee study or if I'll just study John 13-15 as soon as I get up in the morning in lieu of my Bible readings (this would give me more time to study). What do y'all think? Which is more beneficial? If I do continue to read, I'll be reading less each day than I am now (like one or two chapters).

2 Corinthians 5:17

For my Bible Bee studying last year, I read John 1-6 each morning instead of reading other things, and it worked well for me. :) But since they said General Bible Knowledge would also be on the test (how much I don't know), reading a chapter or two wouldn't hurt, since you never know what you'll be tested on ;D Not sure if that helped much. x)

Anna, I don't know what the discovery journal is like this year or how you like to study, but one thing I learned is that doing too much usually ends up hurting more than it helps. What I'm saying is that when I would set way too many goals for myself (and I am very hard on myself), I'd get really frustrated and discouraged and upset with myself. Also I found that when I would try to do multiple studies at once, I wouldn't learn as much because I couldn't focus on one thing. (Unfortunately I didn't learn this lesson very well, because I do it all the time. :P)

Hopefully that makes sense. I'm not necessarily saying that you should or shouldn't; I just don't want you to exhaust yourself and get discouraged like I did. :P Happy studying! :)

Somehow I didn't see this until just now :). Thank you for your advice and for being willing to share! I used to be an underachiever, but in the past half year or so, I've found myself erring on the other side, so I needed to be reminded of this. Success is kind of a dangerous thing. Once I feel like I've "done well" according to my human standards, I want to continue to do well and do better and better, but I guess that I also need to take time to breathe and enjoy God and all His good gifts.

I finished the Bible yesterday, and so I decided to try working on studying the memory passages and their context as my morning devotions. This morning, I started studying Exodus 3:13-14, and it has been so good! I noticed so many things that I never had before, and came away in awe of God and His Word. I'm looking forward to continuing this study and seeing all that He has to teach me!
