Feedback on the brand-new forums look

Hey guys,

I hope the admins will see this! =P These forums look great! But, like just about anything new, it'll probably have some kinks to be worked out. Anything in particular you think needs to be changed or that you'd like to see come back?

I am already missing the feature of the link to get to the last reply of a topic. One more click and a few more seconds of loading really makes a big difference. xP jk EDIT: Oh, wait, maybe it only goes to the first page when you haven't seen the topic yet. It's just that, I have seen it before. But anyways, cool! I think. :P

Automatic subscription to a topic should only happen if a person starts a topic, not just if they post to it. We had this problem when the forums first started too.

We miss the "reply" and "quote" buttons. Add them back!

We're so used to the old way of doing bold (*), small text (^), and so forth - could you please change it back? Or else at least tell us what we need to do now to make the same kind of text?

It'd be nice if the old way of saying when a post was made "3 days ago", for example, instead of "Aug 6" was returned.

The new tagging feature is cool, but not feasible right now, with everyone having spaces in their names and multiple people with the same name. I'd suggest adding back in the username in the profile settings so that we can use that for tagging instead. Ditto with the private messaging - I can hardly even tell who's who. (Great move to add PMing, by the way.) Maybe there should also be an option to "follow", "friend", or something to that effect.

Okay, that's all I can think of right now… :P

I like the "Currently Online" feature–no more hiding in the air vents. xD. I would appreciate having the page navigation links (next, previous, last, etc.) at the top of the page as well as the bottom.

Great feedback, Matthew! I agree with all you mentioned. Can you access the Feedback tab and maybe post this there, where the admins will be more likely to see it? :) Because the things you said really do need to be fixed. xD

I'll follow this thread to get feedback on the new forum. I'll try to find a way to disable the automatic subscription. We can't afford to send that many emails so for now, please keep unsubscribing to help out.

I don't like that you can't see what threads have new comments on them. Whenever I get on, I always click on the ones that say that they have new comments… now I can't :(

Hannah, are some threads showing up green? I think the green ones are the ones that have new comments, and the gray ones are the ones that don't. :P

The update has a great design! It would be great if emojis could be implemented, as well as a "like" or "+1" button to posts. Oh, and I kind of miss the larger avatars/profile pictures. And I'm kind of confused on how the tagging works?

I think if you put the that whole username of the person your tagging like @ZachB zachbass.com/forthebee and it tags you? idk.

In other words, everyone needs to get short usernames… xP xP

I can't edit a private topic that I started (edit - actually, any topic that I started) except for the title. Well, I can edit the actual post I made, but it's kinda confusing to have two edit pages. Also I think it might be good to be able to include new people in an existing private conversation. Right now, there's no place to even view the people that are currently in the conversation (which would be useful if the said person hasn't posted to it yet).

I'm wondering if the updated forums is a foretelling of an upcoming Memverse redesign?

I think the updates are awesome! Especially how you can see who's on. I really like that!

The search function could be improved if it would either display the text that matched the search criteria, instead of just the topic, or if the link directed you to the page where the search text was found. (I hope that made sense) Because right now, if it's a long topic, searching for something doesn't do much good if I don't know which page it is on.

@Rosie C.: I think he just meant being good stewards of our words, and not using the fact that the conversation is private and disappears when you've left to say things that are better left unsaid. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but those were just my thoughts on this. I think we need to be careful with how we use the chat room.

Oooh! I just noticed the 'Search Topics and Posts' feature; that will be really nice to have when I need to find something instead of having to search through pages and pages of topics like before.

ok so it's just the forums again? but now, when i click on the general chat topics for example, it will turn to the blue 'Thredded' thing… and then if i like, refresh the page or click on a thread, it will turn back to the regular green… lol :p

No, I think this is the default styling for these forums, and they were customized and embedded into Memverse, and I think somehow it got disconnected. :P

Same thing is happening for me. Usually it's blue, but sometimes when I reload it's normal.

Having a green dot or something next to the chat room button would be nice to show if people are there or not. (Like in Gmail the person's name has a green dot next to it if their email is open.)
