Mommy's Helper

Introduction

Well, hello there! It's nice to meet you. I am the father of the Dickens family, and I'm sure you want to know us. We are an adventure-loving family, with two girls and two boys.
I, of course, am Mr. Dickens, and I will be called “Dad” in the stories I will soon be telling to you. I'm 6 feet tall, and my 36 years have shown me lots of adventure!
Here is my wife, Mrs. Dickens. She will be fondly remembered as “Mom”. She is 5 ft. 5 in., and has lived 35 years.
Here is my firstborn, 14-year-old Joseph. He is 5 ft. 6 in. tall.
And now we come to Katy, my first daughter. She is 12, and loves adventure! She is 4 ft. 10 in.
Next is Andrew. He's 9, and he is 4 ft. 2 in. tall.
Last, but certainly not least is Milly. She is 4 feet, which is rather tall for her 7 years.

So, I hope you've enjoyed meeting our family! Are you ready for some adventure-filled stories about our family?
LET'S GO!!!!!

Here's Part 1 of the first story… I won't post part 2 for awhile… just to keep you all in suspense… :)

The Search For Katy

PART 1
“KAATY!” Andrew yelled through the open window. “KATY! IT'S TIME FOR DINNER!” No answer. Andrew stepped outside. “KATY! COME IN, IT'S SUPPERTIME!”
“That's strange.” said Joseph. “She's usually running the minute she smells that good venison cooking.”
“It's not venison, it's roasted duck!” Mom called from the kitchen.
“Duck or venison, Katy's never been late for supper before.” said Dad. Then, turning to Andrew, he said, “Why didn't she come inside with the rest of you? I thought she did!”
“She wanted to climb a little higher in the tree,” Milly replied.
“Oh?” said Dad, raising an eyebrow. “Which tree?”
“The one in the front yard!” Joseph quickly answered.
“Oh! The one in the front yard!” Dad cried. “Uh, which one in the front yard?
“Th- the-” Joseph looked helplessly at Andrew.
“The old rotting one.” Milly answered. “I tried to stop them, but they wouldn't.”
Dad gasped. “I'll deal with you boys later,” he cried, as he rushed out the door. “Come with me for now, everyone!” he added.
They all ran outside. Mom gasped. “Oh, no!” Joseph cried, as he, Milly and Andrew all ran toward the tree.
As they lifted the branches off the ground, Mom, Andrew and Milly were crying. Dad and Joseph had solemn faces as they lifted the fallen tree trunk away.
As they cleared away the branches, they all got more and more worried. There was no sign of Katy – anywhere.
After they had carried away the last branch, they all stared at the bare ground. Katy was gone.

The Search For Katy

PART 2
As the sad family walked slowly toward the house, they tried to figure out the mystery. Tell me everything that you can remember happening in the last hour,” Dad said.
“We came in and asked Mom what was for supper,” replied Milly.
“I went and got a book to read in my room,” remembered Joseph.
“I heard an ambulance go by, and then Milly and I went down to roller blade in the basement,” Andrew said.
“Hmmm…” frowned Dad. “No clues to how Katy disappeared. Does anyone else remember anything? I heard the tree crash down, but thought nothing of it, as I figured Katy was inside.”
“I remember the phone rang, but I didn't recognize the number.” Mom said. “As if that would help.”
“Well,” said Dad, “You two girls think together. I'll go punish these young rascals for getting on that tree I forbade them to climb.”
Mom and Milly were left alone. There was silence.
“While you're thinking, Milly, I'll go check the message that phone caller left. I saw he left one.” And Mom went into the office.
Milly thought hard, but she couldn't think of any reason how Katy could disappear. “Milly,” called Mom, “come listen to this.”
Milly ran into the office. “What, Mom?”
“I can't believe I didn't recognize the phone number. It's Katy's cell phone. Let's see what she said.”
And this is what the message said:
“Mom, this is Katy. I-I was climbing the tree, an-and suddenly it started cracking and fell over! A big branch fell on my leg. I-I’m trying not to cry! Please, come out to the tree! Bye!”
Mom and Milly were still crying when Dad returned. “What's wrong?” he said. “Just about Katy?”
Mom pressed the button of the phone, and they listened to the message again. Dad ran his fingers through his beard thoughtfully. “Hmm…. mmm….” he mumbled.
Just then they received a phone call. Mom looked at the number. “It's Katy!” she cried. “Katy's okay… she must be… maybe.” And she started sobbing again as Dad picked up the phone. “Hello?”
There was nothing but a soft gurgling noise. “Hello? Katy? Are you there?”
Then he heard a muffled voice. “Hi, Dad? You – oh no,” and then there was nothing but gurgling.

Hehe! I'll post part 3….

Dad hung up, and then picked up the phone and dialed Katy's number. “Hello? Katy?”
“Huh? Who are you?” was the reply.
“I'm Mr. Dickens, Katy's dad. Is Katy there?”
“What on earth? You got the wrong number,” and then the person hung up.
Dad sighed, then quickly dialed Katy's number. “Katy? Are you there?”
There was nothing but static. Dad hung up. Mom was still sobbing, and Milly was looking up at Dad, bewildered. “Dad, is Katy okay?”
Dad reached down and picked Milly up. “Katy will be okay – I hope.”
Milly leaned on his shoulder and started crying.
Dad put down Milly. “I'll find Katy.” he said.
Mom looked up at him in amazement. “You can't!” she cried. “You won't be able to do it!”
“She couldn't be very far away,” said Dad. “I'll look and look and look until I find her.” He went outside.
Dad walked around the place where the tree had fallen. He searched the ground for footprints, for it was only spring and the ground was muddy. He found footprints leading to the left. But they weren't Katy's size. No, they were much bigger than Katy's feet. Anyway, he decided to drive left. He got in the car and drove away, guessing which way to go at the places where roads crossed.
He soon found himself on Willowhurst Lane. “Uh oh,” he thought. “I had better be careful, because this is the road that has the huge, 10-foot muddy ditch.”
He carefully passed the ditch. When he passed it, he noticed that it had a tiny corner of something sticking out of it. He thought nothing of it, for people threw their garbage and things into the ditch all the time. He drove for 2 hours. There was no sign of Katie anywhere. He hadn't expected there would be. He turned back home, choosing to go a different direction to avoid the dangerous ditch.

PART 4
When Dad returned home, 4 hours after he left, he found the family was asleep. (Remember, this was probably at least 5 hours after it was suppertime.) He went into the kitchen, and was surprised to smell roasted duck. “They should have eaten it,” he thought. “Or – yes, they were probably too upset. Well, I’m never too upset to eat.”
And he sat down, and nearly stuffed himself to bursting with roasted duck, and went to bed.
Upstairs, he found Mom crying softly. “I can never get to sleep without Katy,” she sobbed.
Just then, the phone rang downstairs. Dad raced down the steps four at a time to answer it. The box on the phone that usually said the phone number of the caller said, “ALBANY COMMUNITY HOSPITAL”. Dad answered it quickly. “Hello?” he asked.
“Hello? Are you Mr. Dickens?” asked a voice.
“Yes, that’s me,” Dad quickly replied.
“Mr. Dickens, I’m guessing you have already found that your daughter is missing.”
“Yes, we’ve been searching for her for the last 5 hours. Do you have any news of her?”
“Yes. I presume you have already found the broken tree in your front yard?”
“Yes. I heard that a branch fell on Katy’s leg.”
“She is safe here at the hospital. Her leg is not broken, though it is badly hurt and it is better that she remains here for at least a day.”
“Yes, yes. I’ll be over there to see her shortly. Thank you!”
“Goodbye, Mr. Dickens. See you soon.”
Dad hung up the phone and raced up the stairs. “Alice,” he said, “Katy’s at the Albany hospital. I’m going over there right now to see her.”
“Oh, Donald! I’m coming with you!” Mom jumped up, for she was still in her day clothes. “Joseph can stay with Andrew and Milly.”

Part 5 is the end, so I won't post it till I have another story going. I NEED SOME SUGGESTIONS IF YOU WANT ME TO EVER POST PART 5!!!!!!!!!

I'm glad you got my letter. Okay on with the story. This is a true story, but I will make up the names because the family in the story would not like me to post their names on the internet. Okay, you may figure out who these people are Hannah, but if you do, don't say it on the fourms but you can tell me your guess in a letter. :) In the story, there is Dad old , Mum middle-aged , Elizabeth teen, Peter teen, David teen, ( and with severe brain damage.) the main character, Rebeca tween, Abby older child, and little Amos. (Not a baby though.) It was July 3rd 2013, and Rebeca thought, Boy, today is going to be such a wonderful day, I can't wait to go to the fireworks, see my friends, and pass out tracts!

SUSANNA WHITE

Susanna's Family

Now before we start to see all Susanna's adventures, let's meet her family. The following was made by her:

“Dad is 39. He is really nice and sometimes surprises us with ice cream he secretly bought from the store. He is 5 foot 11 inches, and has short, straight, dark brown hair.

Next is Mom. She is 37 and loves to cook. She is sometimes kind of strict, but I like her anyway. She has curly blond hair that reaches to the middle of her back and is 5 foot 8 inches.

Next is me! My real name is Susanna, but everybody calls me Suse. I am 12 years old and like to read. I have to admit that being the oldest member of the family, I am kind of bossy, but I can't really help it because I'm oldest. I am 5 foot 7 inches. My curly light brown hair has streaks of blond in it and reaches down to my knees.

Next comes one of my 3 sisters, Josephine. Everybody calls her Jose for short. She is 10 years old and likes to work. She is very tall for her age, as tall as me. She is very kind and gentle. Her straight dark brown hair reaches down to her waist, and has little streaks of light brown in it.

My brother, Alexander, is 7. We call him Alex for short. He is amazingly tall for his age, just five inches shorter than Jose and I. He is kind of rough, and loves to eat. His hair is just like Dad's.

Then there's my 2nd sister, Katharine. We call her Katie for short. She is a twin to Alex, and is just as tall as him. She loves to eat, too, and even has kind of short dark brown hair like Alex and Dad. She is very gentle, though.

Next is Henrietta. She is 4 and a half. We call her Henny for short. Her hair is just like mine, except maybe a foot shorter, and she is gentle like Katie. She is 4 foot 6 inches.

Then is toddler 2-year-old Washington. We call him Washy for short. His hair is like Jose's, but as short as Dad's. He is very energetic, and is 3 foot 11 inches.

Then Mom is pregnant with another baby, and we don't know its gender.”

CHAPTER 1:

A story for Susanna

“Mom,” Susanna called one morning, “Do you think I can learn to iron or wash clothes yet? I'll be really careful. I–”
“Susanna, maybe you can learn to wash clothes, but not iron them. Do you want me to tell you a story to explain why?”
“Oh, yes, yes! exclaimed Susanna. She loved to hear any new story. “Please do. I would love that!”
“Well then, I will. But this about you when you were little.”
“Oh, Mother, about ME? How would that explain anything about not ironing clothes?” “Oh, you'll see.” said Mom. Her eyes had a mysterious look in them. “It happened when you were four. Whenever I ironed, I would let you stand on a stool and watch me. You would always clap your hands very loud when I was done with a shirt or pants or something like that. You would shout, 'Momma's done! Yay! Dadda, come wook! Momma's done!'”
Susanna smiled. It was funny to think of her saying Dadda, instead of Dad, and wook, instead of look.
Mom went on, “And then one day a dreadful thing happened. I had let you stand on the stool, as usual, to watch me. Suddenly, I heard Jose crying. She had fallen off a chair! I rushed to the dining room, where she had fallen, but you stayed on your stool. You picked up some clothes, set them on the ironing board, and picked up the iron, which was still hot.”
“Oh, no, Mom!” Susanna cried. “I didn't do that!”
Mom said, “Yes, you did, dear. While I was in the dining room with Jose, I heard a terrified scream. You had burned yourself! And I'm afraid you're still not very careful.”
Susanna hung her head.
“But,” Mom began, “Your father and I think that you are now careful enough to at least wash the clothes.”
Susanna looked up.
“And maybe next week, if you seem to act real careful with the washing, maybe I will let you iron the clothes.”
“Oh, Mother!” Susanna cried. She ran up to her mom and hugged her. “I'm so glad! I'll be ever so careful!”
Mother smiled. “And I'll be ever so careful to watch you.”

CHAPTER 2:

Susanna takes piano lessons

One day Susanna found her mother on the front porch talking to a strange lady. She hoped that her mom had gotten her a piano teacher. She had wished for ever so long to take piano lessons. She went out to see what was going on. When she got there, her mother said, “Susanna, I would like you to meet your new piano teacher. Her name is Miss Lake. Miss Lake, this is your new student, Susanna White. We call her Suse for short.”
“It's nice to meet you.” said Miss Lake, shaking Susanna's hand. “I hope you will like learning to play the piano.”
“Oh, I will!” Susanna cried. “I can already play a few songs, and it's ever so fun! Can you start right now?”
“Yes, Suse. We can start whenever you want.”
“Oh, I want you to meet my family first!” Susanna said. Jose came onto the porch to see what was the matter. “Here's Josephine. We call her Jose for short. She's ten.” They walked into the house.
“Who's this?” asked Miss Lake, when she saw Katie, who was playing with a Jacob's ladder.
“Oh, that's Katharine, Katie for short. She's a twin to Alexander. We call him Alex for short. Here he is over here. And Henrietta, Henny for short, is 4 and a half. There she is. And Washington, who we call Washy for short, is 2. And, as you can probably see, Mom is pregnant with another baby, and we don't know it's gender.” answered Susanna. “And now that you've met my family, why don't you give me my first piano lesson?”
Miss Lake laughed. “All right, Suse, come on to the piano. Now, can you play, 'Mary had a little lamb?'”
“Oh, yes! I've played that many times. And I can play 'Old MacDonald had a farm' and 'Twinkle, twinkle little star'! Want me to play them for you?”
“Yes, please do.” said Miss Lake.
And Susanna played all those songs. Then she said, “Can you teach me another one?”
“Oh, sure!” replied Miss Lake. “I'll teach you 'Pop goes the weasel'. Would you like that?”
“Oh, yes!” said Susanna.
“Now, you repeat after me.” smiled Miss Lake.
