I really like your cards that you make Kylie. I do not have a business.

BTW - I really like your middle name…that is my middle name :D

I don't have a business but 2 of my friends families have businesses. They make soup and lotions, and other stuff! All organic and stuff! I'll post a link 2 one of their websites if I get a chance!

I have been teaching piano for about a year now, starting with two of my little cousins. I have 17 students currently, including four younger siblings. I need to start thinking about doing a recital for them. :)

My little sister Melody's middle name is Rose!

I'm not exactly sure myself how I got all my students. At the beginning of February I only had four, which were my two cousins, Philip, and Zachary. Then another family with four students came along, and they brought a family they knew with two more older students. Shortly after that, another family came along with two more students, and that tripled my number of students in just two weeks! I think my mom was telling people about it somewhere, maybe Facebook or something. Then I started teaching Courtney and Brianna because my mom wanted to take a break because of the baby. Then, my mom asked me to take over three other students for her during the first few weeks with the baby. Their mom, who is from El Salvador, trades Spanish lessons for piano lessons with us. I think God has given me a clear sign to keep on teaching piano! :D

Wow, Matthew, that's really neat! You sure got them pretty fast! I'd really enjoy teaching piano, though I have no idea who to teach, other than my sister. Maybe I could start teaching David as well, because Amy says she's not quite as interested in piano as she used to be. Other than my siblings, I have no one to teach! EDIT – How much time each week do you spend on teaching piano?

@Carissa - I have no words for your comment. You've known for the longest time that Matthew plays piano, so….? (It just sounded like you'd never heard that before)

I'm really interested in running my own internet corporation… That way, I could have financial backing to pursue in music in a really big way!

I have two! One of which is called "Pachinio's - Pies, Pastries, and Sweets!"
I make Butterscotch, Chocolate, Coconut Cream, Lemon, and Apple Pies. I also make Butter-Brikle Cake (which is a 6 layer cake with homemade whipped cream that is mixed with Heath bits in the middle of each layer. Then we cover it with Chocolate frosting and then more whipped cream and more Heath bits on top of the cake.), Black Tie Brownies (Special Recipie) :), and Peanut Butter Squares!

I also have another business, but for now it is kind of classified! :)

@Ashley, You know how curious that makes people when you say it like that. Does that mean that it is a work in progress (your other business),or what, otherwise how can you have any customers?

Let's see… 30 minutes per student, so 8 1/2 hours at the most, if we don't skip any lessons that week. Yeah, it does keep me pretty busy.

Wow. I can't believe I don't remember things like this…but yes, technically, I do have a business :) I babysit children in our Church whenever I'm needed. Right now, I only do it for one family, though I've done it for 4 other families as well. I normally babysit for between 2-6 hours!

I think this old African Proverb sums it up best: It takes a village to raise a child; and the occasional teenager. :D

Oh sorry, I didn't mean to make people curious! It is a work in progress and I don't really want to get my hopes up if it doesn't work. Again, my apology!

Both. :) I don't want to stereotype because I have had most of my students for only a few weeks, but there are at least a couple who don't seem to like to practice. It comes with the job, I guess. But teaching piano is very fun! Especially when the student is motivated.

What curriculum do you use for piano teaching? I've thought about teaching, but I can't seem to find a good method for teaching.

Any suggestions on getting them motivated? Another one…how do you get them to practice? Or, do you just give piano lessons and keep assigning songs over, because they don't ever learn it well?

For every new song they learn give them a ticket. Then have a box or something were they can spend their tickets. Maybe have a few boxes and one box is for one ticket the other two and so on :)
Hope it helps!

@Elanee: I was raised on Bastien, and currently all of my students use Bastien because that's what I'm used to. Bastien is not the best, though, principally because it's not Christian, and so every now and then you have to say "No" to a song. When I have time (one of my favorite phrases!) I want to look at expanding the books I use.

@Bethany: I really only know four of my students very well, (my cousins and my brothers,) and all of them are motivated more or less. The others I have taught just a couple lessons, and so I haven't really had much experience with teaching not-motivated students. Practice charts work well for just-beginning students who haven't gotten into the habit, but they are sometimes hard to keep track of.

@Annalysa: (You can tell, I like to use people's real names when possible. :) ) That's cool! I remember when I had my first students, it was really exciting!
And you're yet another Bible Bee-er I know who plays piano! :D

@Matthew - Aren't you teaching your sisters?

We use the Alfred Piano Books. They are pretty good, though there are several songs that we don't learn either. They have a lot of books per level – a hymn book, theory, lesson, practice and one other that I can't think of….
