I came across a verse that was a complete misquotation, which I wanted to memorize. I switched versions so I could still do that. Is there a way to report such verses without adding them to "your verses"? I tried writing about them at the end of the post about entering verses correctly. Whether that will get read or not I don't know.

I don't think the owners/moderators read all the stuff on the blog, so the best place to post a problem like that would be through the outside company MV uses to direct questions and problems. The easiest way to get to it is either the Community tab on your MV home page, or the ? mark in the comment bubble on the bottom right hand side of the screen. Hope that helps!

Hi, Noah. Those directions are for verses that you have already added. Inspirationmemory is asking about correcting verses without "adding" them. I'm also wondering about that because I ran across two verses that contained private, personal information instead of the actual verse, and there is no way for me to "add" the verse in order to correct it. So I will do as Emily H. says to do and see if that works.

Hi, everyone, I am one of the Scribes who daily checks and corrects verses I have been notified of that are incorrect. I don't usually have time to check blogs, etc. But you can "temporarily" add the verse to your memory verses, then go to Your Verses, and in the far right column (Verse Status), click there and select "Error Reported". Sometimes you may have to simply click on the word that shows there and refresh your screen, and 'error reported' should show up. I get those notifications daily and respond to them by correcting the verse in the appropriate version (I do the corrections usually once a day). If it is a verse that is totally non existent, I would advise one of the developers of Memverse to go in and totally delete the verse (but that deletion may not happen for a while, but at least we now know about it). Then, you can go back under Your Verses, place a checkmark in the box in the far left column next to the verse you've temporarily added, scroll to the bottom of the screen, and select "Delete Selected" to remove the verse from your own listing. I should still get the notification so that I can look into the problem and correct it. Hope this may help.

Occasionally I find some NIV verses highlighted as 'errors' but they aren't. That is because Memverse uses NIV as the 1984 version of this translation. The latest version of the NIV translation is 2011 and is coded on Memverse as NNV (which was done many years ago). However, future additions of newer versions of the same translation should now have a 2-digit translation year following the letters, which has been done with the latest NLT15 version (which reflects the NLT's 2015 translation) (while the original NLT reflects the 2007 version). Unfortunately, I understand from the developers of Memverse, that it is currently too difficult to go back and change NLT to NLT07, or NIV to NIV84. But going forward, we should be able to make this a little easier when we add newer versions of the same translation. I hope this may help with some of the confusion and "error" reporting on these two popular translations on Memverse. If you have any questions, please ask them here. Thank you.

A number of Memverse members (maybe it is only one) is often flagging the wording of Philippians 4:4, KJV as being incorrect. This is not so. The KJV version used by Memverse is the Modernized KJV (1987) as presented on the Bible Gateway (which is indicated as such in your Profile listing of Bible Translations that are available on Memverse). It says: "Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice."
If a person wants the older KJV version, please add to your verses the AKJ or Authorized King James version, which says: "Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice."
If anyone has any questions, do post them here and I will do my best to address them. Thank you.

I am the guilty person with the Phil. 4:4. Sorry! If I use the AKJ is it going to give my verses in the version I grew up with (1960's) and that is used on other memorization sites such as FASTMISSIONS? If so, what's the easiest way to change all my verses to AKJ? This is the only verse I noticed the difference (alway, always), but there may be others. I am wanting to memorize in a version that matches my Bible and what FAST uses, which so far seem to match. Thanks for your help and again sorry for making your work harder.

Hi, Patricia, thank you for coming forward :) .

The KJV on Memverse is the "slightly more modernized" version that is on Bible Gateway. But from what I can see, there are not a lot of changes, mostly being Phil. 4:4.

Unfortunately, there is no easy way to simply change all of your KJV verses to the AKJ verses–and many of those verses you might not want to change, either, as the AKJ does have a lot more "archaic" type of wording (I believe) than what most KJV versions have (modernized or not).

Since I joined in June 2014, I memorized over 300 verses on Memverse using non-NKJV versions. Near the end of 2019, I decided I wanted to switch most (but not all) back to the NKJV during 2020 because that is the Bible that I purchased and have as my own daily study Bible since early 2012. This task is what I'm working on now, but only verse by verse (I can explain that more if you would like).

What I would suggest is that you would check out the verse(s) you have on Memverse in KJV and check the wording with the FASTMISSIONS site, and with the AKJ version on Bible Gateway and also on the Official AKJV website: www.kingjamesbibleonline.org .

If the wording is different from what you currently have on Memverse, and you want to change it to the version wording you would like to memorize it in, then you would need to go under "Your Verses", check the little box to the left of the verse, scroll to the bottom of the page and select "Delete Selected". When the verse(s) has been deleted, then you can go to "Add More Verses" and add it back in with the AKJ (or whatever other version has the wording you desire to memorize it in).

I hope there are not many you will need to change as deleting/re-adding these affected verses will take you back to square 1 on the memorization path for those verse(s).

As offered above, I can share with you how I'm working on changing at least 100-150 verses during 2020 from non-NKJV to NKJV without going backwards on the "Memorized" status of my overall user profile.

I hope this makes sense. If any part of it doesn't, do let me know.

Thanks AK, I had thought a while back that I might need to change to AKJ, but when I looked at it more closely, it didn't look like what I was memorizing either. I guess over time I'll change things as I notice things aren't matching up. That's what happened with Phil. 4:4. I had it both ways and kept correcting one or the other until I finally looked in my Bible and tried to change both to that. I've sort of been ignoring when it tells me it's wrong here (or doesn't tell me it's correct); but if changing it and any other verses I stumble across that aren't matching up to AKJ will make things work, I'm good with that.

I've been memorizing since I was a kid and want to stick with what's familiar. More recently I'd been using cards, then my cousin introduced me to Memverse, then my brother introduced me to FAST. A year or so ago during a FAST memory challenge I set myself the goal of aligning cards, Memverse, and FAST so they all have the same verses. It was quite a challenge, but I love having the variety of doing reviews of the same verses in different formats and maintaining the synch hasn't been hard. It's also helpful when I lose power or otherwise can't access the internet.

Your directions to change versions for the verses make sense and hopefully I'll not have many besides Phil. 4:4 I need to change. Having it start over won't be a problem, if I had a large number start over it could make my review really long for a while.

I appreciate the time you put into checking verses and helping people like me figure things out.

You're most welcome, Patricia. I can relate to you wanting to memorize the same version in all platforms. That is sort of why I'm moving things back to the NKJV from about 15 different wonderful-sounding versions, but I have the KJV mostly in my mind on so many verses. The NKJV is just modern enough but also close enough to the original KJV that I'm happy with the transition. There are, however, just a few verses I will keep in non-NKJV versions just because they are so wonderfully worded and are not ones that I had previously memorized in KJV in my earlier days so I don't have previous memorization challenges to have to struggle against.

Take care, and may God continue to bless you in your memorizing of His precious Word.

I've made the change for Phil. 4:4 and hopefully that will be all I'll need to change. I will be more careful when entering verses to make sure they match in KJV and if not check AKJ. I agree it's easier to stick with one version. For me, familiarity makes memorizing in KJV so much easier. NKJV is close, but throws me off when it's different.

God bless you as well. It's certainly a time to be storing His Word in our minds/hearts and sharing with others the hope it brings.

Hi, everyone. Someone has been reporting Psalm 4:8 from the Reina-Valera Spanish version as being incorrect at least twice during the past few days. This verse is correct on Memverse, as Memverse is using the 1960 version of the RVR (Reina-Valera 1960) Spanish version. There are currently no other RVR versions on Memverse, although several exist on Bible Gateway. Just wanted to let that person, whoever he/she may be, as to why it keeps getting "verified" as being correct. You are probably using a newer version of RVR. Looking forward to hearing from you. Thank you.

Hi, lil'biblegal, I am not sure what you mean by "there are many".
(1) There are many verses in the RVR 1960 version that are being confused with more 'modern' RVR versions???
(2) There are many people who are using the RVR version but not necessarily the 1960 version (though that is the only one currently on Memverse)???
(3) Something else???
Thank you.

many rvr adaptations the 1960 (at least in Chile) is more popular, but I know more RVRs exist, which might be more understandable (Chileans don't really get the meaning of the passages which is a product of A lack of reading skills and B it has more lyrical beauty) so basically it's highly likely that someone is using a more understandable version of RVR that isn't super popular? I think that about covers the extent of my knowledge (I live in Chile)

Thanks, lil'biblegal, for your explanation. I appreciate it.
Chile is a little ways away from Canada (where I live)! :)
Take care, and stay warm!!

During 2020, the NASB (New American Standard Bible) published a new version. The version we have referenced on Memverse is the previous or 1995 version.

Recently several verses in Romans 8 were flagged as being incorrect, probably because the person who did this is now reading from this 2020 new edition. Out of the first 11 verses of Romans 8, only 3 of them (verses 1, 4 and 5) actually changed from the previous version (whether in wording differences or punctuation differences).

I've reached out to the principal developer of Memverse, to get this new version of NASB set up. I anticipate it being set up as "NASB20" to reflect the publication year of 2020 (or something very close to this). You can periodically check the available versions under your Profile to see when it has been set up. Then you can start adding new verses to it.

Remember: all verses from new versions must be typed in (or copied and pasted from an online source). Just remember to include all relevant punctuation when you set them up. When there is a second user that has added a new version verse to their "My verses", then it will be flagged for me to check its accuracy (which I do usually twice a day).

If you have any questions about this, please let me know.
