I love good wholesome music. I think it's one of the best ways to praise God and fun and just great in general. What music do u like to listen to? Do u have any bands that u really like that you'd want to recommend? (Good biblicly acceptable music)

I really like Tenth Avenue North. I don't think there is another contemporary Christian music artist that compares to Tenth Avenue North in my mind. Also, I've heard a couple of songs by Ashes Remain that I really enjoy, but I don't know enough about them that I can say that they are one of my favorite music artists.

Yeah Tenth Avenue North is a great band too do u ever listen to Klove on the radio? It's a Christian station so anything on their is pretty much safe. I think I've heard of Ashes Remain before I think my brother might have some of their songs so they r prob good. :-) have u heard of or does anyone listen to needtobreath?

Sorry it took me so long to get back on :P CFNI is a christian college I live next to. It's kinda small, but LOTS of people know about it. My mom is an alumni, and she took worship class. They have these events called KFN, Preteen Impact, and YFN. KFN stands for kids for the nations and YFN stands for youth for the nations. Check out the website: cfni.org or cfni.com. Just yesterday I attended the closing hours of a fifty hour worship gathering, where many people from around America came to worship for fifty hours straight with Rick Pino and others. I only went for the last 2 hours but what I did experience was truly awesome. Don't know if you guys have heard of DBU or SAGU either. Those are more mainstream colleges, but they also have a christian foundation.

A good celtic band is Whispering Roses (www.whisperingroses.net)
The Annie Moses band is good too… they are a bit modern in some ways, but are pretty good. Same with the Josts and the Votebergs.
Sandi Patty is also amazing! :)

My all time fav is my brother, Jordan. :) He's awesome and has a cd.
(I'm trying to talk him into doing another one! :))

Have you listened to any of Lindsey Stirling's music? YouTube "Lindsey Stirling Crystallize", a good friend from my church told me to look it up, and it was pretty good!

I like (as in, am obsessed with) Owl City. Adam Young, the man behind the music, is a Christian, though most of his music is secular. But not secular as in inappropriatly secular, just… love songs.
I think those sentences kind of got away from me. You sort of have to listen to his music to get what I'm talking about.
Christian artists I like are:
Jamie Grace
Sidewalk Prophets
TobyMac
Chris Tomlin (?)
Matthew West
MercyMe
And some songs by artists I don't know much about yet. :-)

I like some of owl cities music too. :) but not nearly as much as you do. :) and Tobymac then the rest of those to a lesser degree. :)

;) it would improve your brain more than some of those other "artists".

Very true! But that doesn't change the fact that the one I have a taste for improves the brain more than the others. ;)

Totally agree with you Madi!!!
I'm really not a big fan of CCM . most of it is just self glorification of the artists. I really like steve pettit and soundforth

Yes, I've heard of Mozart and Beethoven. :P I play the oboe, so not sure how I couldn't have…
Sometimes I'll listen to movie soundtracks or just instrumental music (Break of Reality :). My mom listens to secular music, and now that I'm older and understand the message of the songs more… I usually have my earbuds in and pretty loud. The lyrics to some of these songs! You can definitely tell I'm a homeschooled Christian. :-)

My Music Preferences (in order from 'I hate you' to 'Absolute favorite')
Country
Secular
Instrumental
Christian Contemporary
Owl City

So what is the purpose of listening to a secular song? Or maybe you should define secular before I start asking questions. ;)

Efca8a58376d35a79ababc988cf86b5c?s=128&d=mm

Dani(elle)

The real meaning of secular just means 'without God' :) even though most 'secular' artist have some mention of God.

9177e960e18455c6132cb43221535237?s=128&d=mm

Madi

So what purpose is there in listening to secular music?
If we were created to bring God glory, what is the purpose of listening to music written by people who hate Him and a song without Him in it?

Cd63d9b3b7f650200c40f0b33a61a0ae?s=128&d=mm

Juliana

The purpose of secular music is so that non-Christians can enjoy music also and not listen to lyrics that go against their "beliefs" (or lack of). At least that's my opinion, part of the reason.
And sometimes (don't get mad at me here!) don't you get tired of hearing the same thing over and over? I like CCM, but sometimes I want CLEAN, PURE secular music. I'm against most secular music (what you hear on the radio), but some are ok. EG, Adam Young (Owl City) is a Christian, but most of his music is defined as secular. There's some other groups out there that I like too, that aren't CCM - Plain White T's, OneRepublic, SOME of Taylor Swift's songs (not too much country! I kind of like her because Adam Young has a HUGE crush on her, and she wrote a song to him - Enchanted, if you were interested).
To me, there is a fine line between what's appropriate secular and what isn't. If a song has swearing and/or references in it, I won't listen to it.

@Sam: I think there are good morals in some secular books/movies/songs, but I wouldn't make it my diet.

@Juliana: Well, obviously non-Christians are going to listen to that stuff. I kinda meant what is the purpose of a Christian listening to that stuff. :)

So I'm thinking we're talking about two different "seculars". By your last sentence I'm assuming your not just listening to all kinds of trash. That's good! :) I guess by secular I was thinking of, for example, immoral love songs or something like that. If you're just talking about a "non-Christian" song (Frog and Toad is the only thing that comes to mind, but you get the idea :P) then I agree that there is a time when it's fun to listen to those. (But no, I don't get tired of hearing the same thing over and over. There is soooooo much wholesome music out there. I don't see how anyone could get tired of it…unless they limit themselves to only a few genres. Then I could see.) Anyway, I have no idea what your music life is like, but I'd just encourage you to not make a diet of listening to music that non-Christians wrote or that weren't written to the glory of God. Music is a powerful tool! Use it well. :D

Efca8a58376d35a79ababc988cf86b5c?s=128&d=mm

Dani(elle)

I know what u mean about getting tired of the same old same old. :) I like owl city except I think a few of his song go a little too far. (Yacht Club for example)
say what? Lol that seems like a really silly reason to like someone. :P :) lol I think Tayler Swift's new music is really fun for the most part but to much of it would definatey have a negative effect on the brain. :P :)
One more 'secular' band I really like is Imagine Dragons. :) the guys in the band r Christian but their music is 'secular'. :P they r pretty popular too so I'm sure you've heard them. :)

Does anyone ever listen to kids songs, like VeggieTales or Disney movies? (Like Aladdin or Beauty and the Beast) In my opinion, you are NEVER too old for VeggieTales!
There's some great kids songs by BareNaked Ladies, too. Ok, I know what you're thinking! But they're actually a group of (four?) big hairy guys who just called their band that to get more people to listen to them. I don't exactly agree with their reasons, but they have some really good songs. Again, that whole secular thing…

Efca8a58376d35a79ababc988cf86b5c?s=128&d=mm

Dani(elle)

I like Veggie tales. :)
As for BNL even if they r good the Bible says to 'Have no appearance of evil' so I don't really care if their good underneath their title is completely inappropriate.
