No, I don't take lessons anymore.
What hymnal do you use? It must not be the Trinity Hymnal Baptist Edition. I thought it was. Also, what new tune are you referring to? Does it have a repeat at the end? The tune I use is "Sagina" by Thomas Campbell. Here's the link to it: http://www.hymnary.org/tune/sagina (The word "sagina" means a certain type of herb; I don't know why he named his tune that, though.) Is this the tune you like?
His Servant
We have two hymnals - one is called "Great hymns of the Faith" and the other one is called the "Trinity Hymnal".
I don't know if it has a repeat at end…? But, it is the same tune as the one you listed too. There is another tune to that song, which I don't like as much, but my most family likes it more :)
Can you play/have you heard of the hymn "Blessed Assurance"? That's another hymn I really like!
EDIT - How Great Thy Art, Trust and Obey, and Great is Thy Faithfulness are two more of my favorites :)
@Matthew Minica - You said that you were learning the Mozart k. 545 - how many pages is it? I have a 3 page one, and an 8 page one, and I was wondering which one you had :)
2 Corinthians 5:17
I was just curious…. because we have some neighbors who moved from Bolivar, and we'll be going through St. Joseph this fall.

I play the piano and I can play a little bit of violin though I don't practice violin anymore. Some of my favorite hymns are Amazing Grace, And Can It Be, and Holy, Holy, Holy. Can any of you play by ear? I can't play by ear through I would really like to. I REALLY like to sight read though.
Emma
Those are some of my favorites, too! Have you heard of I Heard The Voice of Jesus Say, or Jesus, Keep Me Near The Cross?
I've heard of Blessed Assurance! I kinda know the tune for it. Just kinda, though.
Emily H
Some of my favorite Hymns are "It Is Well", "How Firm a Foundation", "Blessed Assurance" and "To God Be the Glory", but I have lots of others that I like too. :)
Emma
I know all of those, and I love them! Has anyone heard of "He Is Risen"? It's about Easter, but I remember when I was little, I loved it and I would sing it literally ALL THE TIME, even at Christmastime.
Nathan Wright: Impersonator Hunter
If you use the regular Trinity Hymnal, then the hymn numbers are different
than the ones in the Baptist Edition.
I like Blessed Assurance. Some more favorites are "The Bible Stands", Who Hath Believed", "Behold the Lamb", "Come Praise and Glorify", and "There is a Redeemer". ("There is a Redeemer" is copyblighted - or, I mean copyrighted; so you won't find all the music or words on Hymnary.org. "Come Praise and Glroify" and "Behold the Lamb" are both contemporary, so they're not on there either.)

I don't use the Trinity Hymnal, I use the "Great Hymns of the Faith" hymn book. And yes, I have heard of "Behold the Lamb" - we sing it on Sunday; though we only use piano and violin for instruments :) I haven't heard of the other two though….
Have you heard of "Jesus, Thank You"? We sing that one as well.
Emily H
I LOVE "There is a Redeemer"!!!!!
Oh, I forgot to put "I Surrender All" as one of my top favorites up there…
God's Maiden of Virtue
I really like "I Surrender All".
Some of the hymns I really like are "O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus", "Immortal, Invisible", "Pass me not, O Gentle Savior", "In Christ Alone" and "Before the Throne of God".
Bethany Frisk (RD)
in christ alone is my farote song before the throne of god is by 3rd my 2nd is might to save
THE DOCTOR
I found "Jesus, Thank You" on sovereigngracemusic.org and liked it. I couldn't find "Mighty to Save", though.
I can play by ear pretty well. Not always perfectly, though. I can also sightread (unless the harmony is written by Bach)!
God's Maiden of Virtue
Oh, I've heard "Mighty To Save" before.
Emma
I love all of those too! I like "All People That On Earth Do Dwell".
WAIT!!! Why hasn't anyone very mentioned "Amazing Grace" or "My Hope Is Built"?
2 Corinthians 5:17
I really like the hymn "Arise my Soul, Arise!"
God's Maiden of Virtue
I like that one too; "The Year of Jubilee" has the same tune. Have you heard it before?
2 Corinthians 5:17
no, I don't think I have. I also like the hymn "How Great thou Art", and "What a Friends we have in Jesus".

One of my favorite classical pieces of music is Tchaikovsky's Op. 70, 4th Movement. To bad it's only for stringed instruments - it's a really neat piece of music :)
Matthew Minica
@Bethany - I learned all three movements of the K. 545 Sonata.
Emma
I love that one!
Rosie: I like "The Year of Jubilee" because I have a doll named Jubilee!
THE DOCTOR
@Matthew~ May I ask why you changed your profile picture?
rainbowchocolatecandy
Haha. Sure :) Well, I didn't change it manually, but I got a new email address, and I STILL haven't signed it up on Gravatar yet. I hope too soon, but I am so busy right now.
biblebee
I am in the search for some good music. I don't want it to be REALLY hard but I would like something that is still hard so that it is challenging.
@Mommy's Helper: I did mention "Amazing Grace". That is one of my favorite hymns :D
Emma
Oh. I hadn't been on there for a while, so I guess I didn't see.
2 Corinthians 5:17
Carissa - try "On the meadow" or "Jesu joy of mans desiring" :)
Matthew Minica
That's actually the way the song is named, because the title was originally written in a different language.
Emma
Oh! What language was it written in?
Courtney M.
Does anyone else here play the harp?
Matthew Minica
I forget…anyone else know?
Emily H
Ummmm…….Bach was from Germany, right? Was it written in German?
GlorifyGod<3
I play the piano and sing. I do it to glorify God.
Sarah Johnston
I love to play the piano! Has anyone here learned the Turkish March or Rondo Alla Turca by Mozart?
Emma
Did Bach write it?
I'm taking piano lessons! I've had 3 so far. Does anyone else on here take piano lessons?
God's Maiden of Virtue
I've heard of Turkish March! I even have a song with that same title in one of my piano books. I'm not sure if it's the same song as the one you're talking about though.
Mommy's Helper- You very likely already know this but, I take piano lessons.
SoulWinner
I took guitar lessons last semester. I might take piano lessons this spring.
@ Mommys Helper
Elephant ears? What? :D
Matthew Minica
I think so. That seems to make sense.
@MH: Did you know that you can delete your own comments here on the forums?
Emma
An Elephant Ear is basically just flat, rounded, crispy, YUMMY, baked dough with powdered sugar, cinnamon, or both on top. They usually have them at fairs.
Marie Morris
I play the harp
SoulWinner
Oh OK. Sounds delicious :D
Emma
They are delicious!
Jayko Leonard, secret agent
I play the piano!
Sir Walter (Jimmy)
I've been playing the piano for 10 years. :) I love it!!!!
2 Corinthians 5:17
I do - I took lessons for a year and rented a harp - I'm praying for a harp :)
Margaret Eddy
I've listened to Alla Turca. I've played Rondo Alla Turca. I've Taught Rondo Alla Turca.
Madi
Agh! She's on them again!!! cough…splutter
ahem
she's taught it about a million times…. :P
I've never learned it…just sight read it. (sorta) ;)
@I'm4given Are you learning it?
Margaret Eddy
Actually, I didn't really learn it that well; I was in between teachers at the time. But teaching it to Kathryn helped me go back and do a lot more analyzing of the piece, so I ended up with a pretty good idea of how it was supposed to be interpreted/played.
"site read it"?
Madi
What piece, beside that troll guy one, are you working on now?
Courtney M.
Do either of you have any tips? I am having trouble figuring out how I am supposed to close my fingers all the way into my hand every time I pluck a string, and yet play a fast song.
Courtney M.
Oh, and what kind of harp do you have? I have a Celtic lap harp. It was exactly the same as the ones Vision Forums used to (and maybe still do) sell.
