I like to knit! I just finished a little hat and a washcloth for my friend's baby. :)

Ooooohhh! I think I'm going to be loving this forum :D I enjoy sewing, and have done a little crocheting and cross stitching/embroidery.

I used to cross-stitch. It was fun to come up with my own designs. I also enjoy latch-hooking-my friend, who doesn't have the patience for such things, gave her partly-finished kit to our family and I finished it and gave it to her for her birthday!

I've done a little bit of everything, besides latch-hook. But as of right now, I am knitting almost every day. A friend of mine taught me several years ago (I was pretty sick and needed something I could do while laying down), and I've been hooked ever since. Thus far, I have knit baby hats, scarves, baby blankets, cloths and currently I am working on socks. Lord-willing, I plan on doing my first "big" project in July, which will be a cardigan. =)

I definitely think God has given me a love for knitting, and supplied me with the ability to learn it for His glory. =)

You make up your own designs? That's sounds like fun. Do you just latch hook over the original design?
A couple of years ago, a friend of mine taught me how to latch-hook. Their family moved to Oklahoma, so when I finished my first latch-hook project, I sent it to her.

I've never tried learning to embroider. It looks pretty though!

I enjoy sewing, crocheting, latch-hooking, and cross stitching. I tried tating with one of my friends, but I just couldn't get the hang of it. I had gotten so used to crocheting.

I agree, Rachel!!! :)

I know how to Crochet, Knit (a little bit), Embroider and Cross-stitch. Some of our friends recently had a Spinning Class!!! That was A LOT of fun. :) So, I know the tiniest little bit about spinning. :)

@All - How much experience do you all have in sewing? I've sewed jumpers, nightgowns, doll dresses, aprons, hand bags, baby/babydoll blankets, etc etc etc.

One lady in our church REALLY likes to sew, and she had a 2 1/2 month long sewing class for girls in our church aged 11-15, meeting once a week. That really helped me to get to the place where i am now. ;)

What's your favorite thing to sew/knit/crochet/etc?

That's great that you all enjoy doing things like this! I can sew a little…I am going to be starting on making a tiered skirt and apron which I have been meaning to do for several months now. Anyways, I used to crochet, but I don't anymore. I'm absolutely horrible at cross-stiching and embroidery so I don't do those at all.

I'll stick with playing piano, cooking and memorizing verses :)

@ Rachel, that's so cool! There's a lady we used to go to church with that teaches a sewing class! There's a total of seven girls in it right now. Actually, one of the meetings was this morning. :)

When we first started out, we did really simple things, (simple patterns like nightgowns, drawstring bags, "A" line skirts, etc). Then we started doing more complicated things (gathered skirts, dresses, pleated skirts, zippers, button holes etc.). Our latest project was to find something we really liked but was too small/big, or ripped, or we just wanted double of, and make a pattern off of it, then make it! We "tested" the patten on a sheet first, to make sure it worked, and now we're all working on the final projects. Mine was a flannel, dress. This is the first time I've ever done stripes, and it took a LONG time to cut it out! :)

God's Maiden of Virtue

Same here! I enjoy all of those things as well.

I'm not a pro at sewing, but I have a little experience. I have sewn a jumper, many small decoritive pillows, many pockets and a spit-up cloth for my brother Jude. I'm planning on making another jumper soon.
I have crocheted a few dish clothes, a flower headband (and soon another), a spit-up cloth for a family who just had their first baby a few months ago, and right now I'm working on a baby blanket for Jude and a pink baby blanket for I don't know who.
I have latch-hooked a small latch-hook once, and sent it to a friend in Oklahoma, and I'm in the middle of a second one.
I'm still working on a cross stitch that I started a year ago because I got a knot in the thread.

Emma

Oh, yes! I LOVE to embroider, sew, and crochet! I also want to learn how to knit, and I have a book on cross-stitching and now that I've seen all you can do with it, I'D LOVE TO CROSS-STITCH! What's latch-hooking? My first embroider project was a little heart. My first sewing project was sewing on packs filled with rice to heat up and keep you warm. I don't remember my first crocheting project, but my first main one was when I tried to crochet a string as long as our living-room in one day! I didn't work very well though… :D What's a spit-up cloth? I think I know what you mean, but I'm not sure. We call them burp-rags.
What were all your first projects?
@ JPIA(R): I haven't had much of an experience with sewing, but the little I have done I LOVE! My favorite thing to sew/knit/crochet/etc is… well… things that take a long time! I don't really have much to do during the summer, because it's so hot, especially this summer where I live, so I like anything that will take up my time!
@ Jackie Chase: So true!

God's Maiden of Virtue

I'm sure you'd enjoy cross-stitching! It is fun (I just haven't done it in a while). I can't really explain what latch-hooking is unless I show you. So I'll bring my latch-hook to church on Sunday.
You're right; it's a cloth that you burp babies on. We just call it a spit-up cloth or a burp cloth.
My first sewing project was…a mini pillow. I gave it to Mom.

My first cross-stitching project was a thing that says, Home is Where the Heart is.

My first latch-hook project was a dragonfly. Now I'm doing a butterfly pattern.

My first crocheting project was either a burp cloth or a dish cloth. I'm not sure which.
Out of all these, crocheting is definitly my favorite.

All- Does anyone know how to tat? I've tried, and it didn't work so well. But I'm interested to see if anyone else has done it and enjoyed it.

99ccb2c1d47add6de4209d7bbac7a0af?s=128&d=mm

Emma

I'm sure I will! I might know what latch-hooking is actually, but I still wouldn't mind if you showed me Sunday! Thanks! What's a mini pillow? did you use a pattern for your first cross-stitching project? My favorite out of those is probably sewing, but my favorite thing out of those with embroidery is definitely embroidery. I just finished embroidering on a blanket for my baby sister! It says BABY with fancy curves and things. Have you ever embroidered? If so, what was your first project? How do you tat?

7dd80386abb09077121e3035a6872af4?s=128&d=mm

God's Maiden of Virtue

I'm so sorry I forgot to bring my latch hook today! I'll make sure to remember to bring it next week.
A mini pillow is just a smaller pillow than a regular one that you would have in your bed. It would be just big enough to put your head on. I made a mini pillow for Peter's birthday; he turned 3 yesterday.
Yes, I did use a pattern for my cross-stitching project. There are different kinds of cross-stitch: Stamped cross-stitch, is where the pattern of where to sew is already stamped on the thing. So you would just have to sew over it. But counted cross-stitch, is where you have to count a correct amount of rows to get to the right place to sew. Both look really nice. If you do end up learning how to cross-stitch, I would recommend getting the stamped one to start out. It is meant more for those who are just beginning. Once you have done one or two patterns, you could probably move on to counted cross-stitch.
No, I've never tried embroidery, but it looks pretty easy to learn how to do.
Well, I can't really explain how to tat; its a little complicated to do, and really hard to try to explain how to do it on the computer. And, I don't really have instructions for how to tat anyway. I only watched a 15 minute video on how to do one or two stitches. I didn't end up learning much. Sorry about that. You may have seen a tated thing before. A lot of tated things are doilies.

Emma

That's alright. But you don't have to take it Wednesday; we're not going to be there. Are you?
He's that old… ALREADY!?!? Last time I knew how old he was, he was 2 MONTHS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tell him I said Happy Birthday.
Oh, yes, it is very easy! Ask one of the Stauffer girls how to embroider. I'll bring something I made on Sunday to show you.

Does anyone know how to weave/loom? My mom has some pot-holder loom things that I've used before, and one time we went on a field trip where they showed us how to weave shirts and things.

7dd80386abb09077121e3035a6872af4?s=128&d=mm

God's Maiden of Virtue

No, I knew you weren't coming on Wednesday; we might not either.

I'll be sure to tell Peter. But I think 2 months is going a little overboard; Jude is even older than that. He is now 5 months old! He is growing so fast!

I sort of know how to weave. Not with a loom, but on a plastic thing with little pegs sticking up in the back. I'll show you one I did along with the latch hook.

99ccb2c1d47add6de4209d7bbac7a0af?s=128&d=mm

Emma

5 MONTHS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO KIDDING!!!???!!!???!!!???
Well, I guess so. Moriah is almost 2 months. She will be on the 13th. She is also growing fast!
Cool! I'm going to start embroidering rockets on a pillowcase today for Joseph (Papa's helper). His 7th birthday is the 7th of July. Shh! I'd better hurry to finish this comment before he starts reading it.

7dd80386abb09077121e3035a6872af4?s=128&d=mm

God's Maiden of Virtue

No kidding. Actually, He'll be 6 months old on July 27th.
Wow! Its hard to believe that she is that old already.

Well, tell him 'Happy birthday' for me (on his birthday).

99ccb2c1d47add6de4209d7bbac7a0af?s=128&d=mm

Emma

6 MONTHS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What month he was born? Wait, don't tell me, I want to figure it out. June, May, April, March, that's 4, now February… So he was born in January?
Uhh… Just so you know, you said Its hard to believe that she is that old already, instead of It's hard to believe that he is that old already.

I'll tell him. It's so hard trying to work on it without having him see it! My dad took the boys out on a shopping trip, so I did some, but it's really hot in my room, and I don't want Elisabeth to know. (Everyone, Elisabeth is my 4-year-old sister.)

I know how to sew, crochet, embroider and latch-hook. I tried cross stiching and it was really hard because I kept messing up. I don't do embroidery that much but I can do a little bit. I am working on finishing up a latch-hook.

99ccb2c1d47add6de4209d7bbac7a0af?s=128&d=mm

Emma

Oh, yes, how could I have forgotten?
Oh, you were referring to Moriah. It is hard to believe! She will be 2 months in exactly a week!

@ Biblebee: I am sorry I asked if you were a primary, and acted like David was a toddler (did I? I think I said 'aww, how old is he?'), because I was mixing you up with BBB (Bethany Bible Bee) and since she is in bible bee primarys group, I thought that David was a little toddler because you said he was your little brother. I'm sorry and I am hoping that I am not confusing you more with this comment. Your real name is Carrisa, right? or am I mixing you up with someone else again?
Embroidery is so fun, isn't it? I know how you feel about messing up (not on cross-stitching though, because I don't know how to do it, but with embroidery and other things).

God's Maiden of Virtue

I guess I do know how to embroider and I just didn't realize it! I always called it hand-stitching, and I just thought that embroidery was something a little different.

99ccb2c1d47add6de4209d7bbac7a0af?s=128&d=mm

Emma

@ GMOV: I didn't know you called it hand-stitching!

@ JPIA(R): Oh, I understand.

God's Maiden of Virtue

Hannah- I heard at prayer meeting that you and Caleb have sore throats. I think I may be the one who gave it to you. Because I had a sore throat and a fever on Sunday, and you and I were with each other in between services. This is just a guess, but I'm really thinking I gave it to you guys. Well, anyway, I hope you get better soon!

99ccb2c1d47add6de4209d7bbac7a0af?s=128&d=mm

Emma

Oh, yes. I feel much better today, and Caleb thinks that tomorrow or maybe tonight he will be completely better. I actually think you didn't give it to me, because my mom says that germs are floating around, and that if I had given it to Caleb, he wouldn't have gotten it the same day as me. Thanks!

@ JPIA(R): Thanks! I do feel much better now, and so does Caleb (ISC).

Rosie- Thanks, we're feeling much better today. You probably did give it to us; so much the better. (I don't care that I got it - I would have talked to you more if I could have.)

Jesus-Paid-It-All (Rachel): Thanks.

Everyone- I'm not coming back here because I'm not a girl (see the first comment on this forum) and I don't sew (see the forum title)…

God's Maiden of Virtue

Mommy's Helper- I'm you guys are feeling better! I really think I may have given it to you. Because, actually, both you and Caleb were around me on Sunday. Remember he was watching us do you know what with the needle? But maybe, possibly not. I don't know; at least you're better! I'm hoping to show you something I embroidered this Sunday.

InSoloChristo- I know you said you won't be posting here again (maybe Hannah can tell you if she sees this), but, what do you mean by 'so much the better'?

99ccb2c1d47add6de4209d7bbac7a0af?s=128&d=mm

Emma

Oh, yes, he was around you. I guess maybe you gave it to us. That was fun doing you know what with the needle!
The thing you embroidered was really pretty. I probably couldn't do that good!
I'll tell Caleb. I'll also tell you what he meant.
If you are wondering why I read it, I'm really nosy and I always read what people say to other people.

7dd80386abb09077121e3035a6872af4?s=128&d=mm

God's Maiden of Virtue

It was kind of fun. I actually made a new record for doing you know what with needles.
Well, I knew you'd read my comment because you come here a lot, so you would be looking to see if anyone said something to you.

I finally figured out what you two were doing with needles from GMOV. My first response was, "You're crazy." :P

InSoloChristo

@Rosie: Did you have to ask me something? I meant that if we got it from you, then it's not deadly, because I know you wouldn't give out deadly sicknesses.

99ccb2c1d47add6de4209d7bbac7a0af?s=128&d=mm

Emma

~Rosie~ Yes, I come here every day. Well, I try.

~SavedByGrace~ We are NOT CRAZY!!!!!! Wretched Son #3 was scared of us while we were doing it. He wouldn't try it, of course. He kept his hands behind his back the whole time while he was watching us. Scaredy Cat. That proves girls are braver than boys!!!!!!
You want to give my brother a deadly disease? and have him give it to my dad, and since my dad sometimes talk to your dad, he'll get it, and then he'll give it to you? Not fun, my foe! Not fun at all!

93fcb35bede1ac128cb83b71e8060885?s=128&d=mm

SavedByGrace

I have a feeling that if your dad had a deadly disease, he wouldn't be talking to anyone. :P But of course, the whole thing was a joke… :)

As for "That proves girls are braver than boys," I disagree. That proves girls are crazier than boys. And I'm perfectly fine with that. ;P

7dd80386abb09077121e3035a6872af4?s=128&d=mm

God's Maiden of Virtue

InSoloChristo- Hee, hee.

Mommy's Helper- I'd have to disagree with you there. I don't think that ALL girls are braver than ALL boys. And I know for sure, that I am NOT braver than all boys.

Nicolas- Excuse me??? JK

biblebee

@Mommy's Helper: That's okay that you asked if I was a primary. I don't know what David would think if he knew that you thought he was a toddler :) Yes, my real name is Carissa and no you are not mixing me up with anyone else. Embroidery is fun only I don't do it to much. I like sewing things more. Recently I have been making fabric flowers.

99ccb2c1d47add6de4209d7bbac7a0af?s=128&d=mm

Emma

~Nicolas~ Okay, maybe girls are crazier than boys, but here's a story proving that girls are smarter than boys:
The heaviest girl in the world, the shortest girl in the world, the smartest guy in the world and I were all in an airplane. We had 3 parachutes. The plane was about to crash. The heaviest girl in the world and the smartest guy in the world jumped out of the plane. "What are we supposed to do?" I asked, shaking with fear. "Here's your parachute and here's my parachute." said the shortest girl in the world. "Where did the last one come from?" I asked. "We brought it on the airplane." the shortest girl in the world answered. "Huh? We had 3." I was confused. "The smartest guy in the world took my backpack." explained the shortest girl in the world. I turned pale. "Was he okay?" I asked. "Oh, yes." said the shortest girl in the world. "He landed right in a tree that had leaves everywhere, and he could have just stayed there, laying on his back." "Oh." I said, relieved. "Wait!" I cried. "That means girls are smarter than guys!"
See? Girls are smarter than guys!
Wait… You are fine with your sister being crazier than you? I'd never be fine with that! I like being crazy, so I'm glad that girls are crazier than boys! I'm too smart for you… See? that's something else that proves girls are smarter than guys!

~Rosie~ I guess you're right. Those stories I told you at prayer meeting proved it, too.

~Carissa~ I understand why David might not like it. I would be mad if someone thought I was a toddler!
Ya. I can't decide which I like better, embroidery or sewing.
