Here's the basic idea of the poem:

I loved my wifie more than anybody has ever loved anything; and we were happier than the angels in Heaven; so the angels became jealous of us and killed my wife.

I did like the ending of the original too though, because it demonstrated the consequences of despair.

I never thought about it like that. I guess I'm just one of those people who like happy endings. :P

Fiddler on the Roof is historical fiction, so it was just being historically accurate. However, I do not like that movie in general.
