Well, actually, I just wanted your opinion… The other Violin 2 player at our orchestra has recommended that I get a shoulder rest. I have not been using one, and seem to be doing okay without it… what are the benefits, and would you recommend getting one?

Oh! Yeah, you should totally get one. I used to play with out one too, but now I don't like it at all. It helps you hold your violin right, and then the wood of the violin won't cut into your shoulder (I noticed that more after I used the shoulder rest and then tried it again without)

I used to hate those chin rests, but its near impossible to do any shifting or fast stuff with out them…

I have not had difficulty learning violin so far in the past six months, but that does not mean it is easy. It is very fun though!!!

Very true. The only reason I'm now in the concert orchestra after starting last August is because I have played the piano for a decade now. :) EDIT: Well, not the only reason, per se, but the main reason. :P
