Well, only if contestant 12 is really concentrating on the passages being asked. But really, I don't think it matters; all of the contestants will have a virtually equal opportunity to quote whatever passages they are asked--it makes little difference whether they know ahead of time some of the passages that they are going to be asked, especially since they obviously don't have any opportunity to study those passages even if they can narrow them down.I'd like your opinion on it. So each contestant gets to hear all the other contestants in their room recite. This means that contestant 1 is at a disadvantage compared to contestant 12 because contestant 12 can eliminate 110 passages from the list because each contestant receives different verses, and contestant 12 can find patterns in the length of the verses. Using logic regarding time limits, contestant 12 might even be able to pinpoint a few passages that they will be asked. Does this sound unfair, or am I missing something?Congrats on finishing your verses, Nicolas! Did you hear about the Oral Round change?Well, I'm _almost_ finished, but close enough. ;D Yeah, I did... I'm okay with the idea myself, but I really don't think that others will like it. Some people get nervous when quoting in front of others, and that could affect their performance, I think.
Still, isn't this the reason why in previous years they didn't allow contestants who completed their Oral to come in contact with those who didn't? Whatever the case, contestant 1 is still at a slight disadvantage because they don't know what's coming. Contestant 12 would probably be able to at least find the pattern and know what's coming.

I agree that Contestant 12 will have a slight advantage in that he will more fully comprehend the pattern of what they are likely going to ask him. But the reason that in past years they didn't allow contact between those who had been through Orals and those who hadn't was because the passages asked were the same for all contestants in each age division; so someone could tell their friend exactly which passages to expect in that case. This way actually safeguards against that.

Ah, I see your point. But what if one, just one contestant actually figures out what is going to be asked ( I possibly could, if I tried). This could be grounds for appeal for the first contestant. Also, suppose someone appeals because a baby cried and messed them up. Or what if two contestants using the same version let each other know when they make a mistake? In my opinion, there is a lot of room for error and appeals…
