Sir Walter (Jimmy)

Kornaiden, in times past known as Alavaria, was certainly a country frought with peril. With King Archen thrust off the throne at the hands of the Council of Lords, the great noble strongholds of Forenton, Carivia, Ambrest, and Omb fell quickly and with great destruction.

Lord Traius certainly had a difficult task before him. Having been denied membership into the Council of Lords, he had willingly bided his time as the chief servant of Lord Drakin, the second highest in the rank of the Council. During his command, Lord Traius had maliciously put to death 200 of the former king's order. Now, as has been seen, he had torn off the yolk of Drakin and made for the second largest city in the kingdom and the the Lord Drakin's primary abode.

This, however, would be a formidable task. Lord Drakin's castle in Carivia was the strongest ever seen by the kingdom. By declaring against the castle, he put himself at enmity with both the Lords and the King. However, Lord Traius had succumbed to the evil ambitions for power and pleged himself to the overthrow of both the Council and the King.

The Council, however, was not unaware of Lord Traius' change of allegiance, nor was the escape of the young Count of Carivia unknown to them…

Wow, you're doing really well at developing the plot, Jimmy! I tend to have some difficulty in that area. :)

(Same here. I'll have to think about this a little more before I post something else. The plot is getting pretty thick, and I don't want to ruin it! :D)

Lady Makennah and the three men with her galloped across the countryside to the castle at Assen. Makennah's young horse, only having recently finished being trained, was having some difficulty keeping up with the other horses while carrying both her and the lifeless body of the Duke of Assen. After a few hours, night began to settle, and the group had to stop for the night. They set up a small camp, lighting only a small fire, so as to keep themselves from being easily seen.

Little did they know, however, that they had been seen already, and that the forest around them concealed a number of cloaked figures who were watching them closely…

The little party soon turned in to sleep. The dangers of the times, however, warranted that one of the four, Sir Doran, kept up a strict watch all night.

All continued peacefully and seemingly without event. Sir Doran woke Lady Makennah and the other lords up at the break of dawn. They prepared to continue once again their solemn mission, when all of the sudden Lord Doran cried out, "Lady Makennah! The Duke of Assen's footwear has been stolen in the night!"

"Impossible!" the Baron DuBatz exclaimed. "Even if someone could have eluded your watch, there is no reason why he should have taken our comrade's boots."

Lady Makennah turned deathly pale. "Actually, my lords, there IS a reason. One that could bring death to all of us, including the king…"

Who is lord Assen?)

"Hurry on, Lady Makennah - we have not a moment to lose!" Sir Doran persuaded.
"The reason Sir Rowan was being followed was because of this." She held up a small yellowed envelope. "This is what he was willing to die for. It's to save us all."

Lady Makennah continued in a somber voice. "It contains the secrets of our order - names, locations, and numbers. It also contains our only knowledge of the doings of the Council of Lords, including the names of its primary fortresses and the locations of its secret documents. Our lord and king made two of these confidential reports to both maintain order in our ranks and to prevent them from being destroyed at the hands of fire or water.
This envelope I have kept safe since I received it from the wounded count, trusting that the other copy would also escape notice by the Council of Lords. Unfortunately, the second copy was concealed in the heel of the Duke of Assen's left boot….the boot that has been stolen during the night."

The faces of the other lords became white as death.

"Do you mean to say, " the Baron DuBatz began, "that the Council knows our EVERY member, our EVERY base, and our EVERY location?!"

"I do," Lady Makennah said softly, tears coming to her eyes.

Rowan woke suddenly and tried sitting up, but quickly changed his mind as sharp pain shot through his shoulder. He sunk back on his bed and looked around the dimly lighted room, trying with difficulty to remember the proceedings of the previous day. The room was low and small; a set of steep stairs looked as if they led straight to the ceding and abruptly stopped. The walls were bare and the only furniture in the room was the bed, a small round table and a few chairs, all made out of wood. A small fire crackling in the corner was the only light in the room.
A door, previously in-perceivable, quietly opened, and Sir Quinn walked into the room.
"Rowan! you're awake! How are you, lad?"
"Never been better." Rowan sighed, trying to smile. Sir Quinn laughed, then grew serious.
"I have an awful feeling about our comrades," he said, "who went to take the poor Duke of Assen to his castle. I'm thinking about riding out with some men to meet them. Do you feel well enough to come, or would you rather stay here?"

"He will stay here." a voice said from the shadows of the corner. A man dressed in black stepped forward. He held a dagger in his right hand, and leered at Sir Quinn and Rowan.

Both men gasped and Sir Quinn took a step back.
"Who are you, and what are you doing here?" he said an a fierce and angry voice, as he slowly and secretly pulled his pistol from his pocket and hid it behind his back, all the while keeping an eye on the man.

"Who do you think I am?" the man scowled.

"I can only assume that you are an unfortunate agent of the Council."

"Quite right, and in the name of the Council I order you to remain in this room and to refrain from your treasonous actions."

"How did you get in here?"

"Silence! That is for me to know and for you never to find out."

With an evil grin, the man reached for some documents upon the table, grasped them in in gloved hand, and cast them into the roaring fire.

Rowan's mind was racing. He knew that Sir Quinn had a pistol, he always carried one, now Rowan just needed to create some kind of diversion to give him a chance to use it, but how? And what was on those papers!? What about the rest of his comrades in the adjoining rooms? This agent of the Council must not discover that they were here, and he also must not discover where all this underground fortress led to. This could be so disastrous! How did this man know to get in here!?

Sir Quinn ran to the fire, and quickly grabbed the papers before they were severely damaged. He whipped around to see what the mysterious man would do, but he was gone. "Where did he go?",He said.

Rowan, who was paying attention to Sir Quinn, said, "I don't know".
