Matthew Minica

This topic may not last very long, but it's an interesting one. :) I'm just interested to know what your name means, and how you think it applies to your life. There's some interesting things that can be drawn from one's name, even the weirder meanings! :P

I actually think I already knew that. ;) And nobody's going to think any less of you for confessing that. :P But let's think this through. First, Mary is the name of at least two well-known and godly women in the Bible, including the mother of our Lord. She was favored by God - what a privilege! Second, what do you think of Biblically when you hear the word "bitter"? I think of the bitter herbs of Passover. These symbolized the harshness of the servitude of the Israelites in Egypt, from which they were now freed. I think it was to remind them how bad it was there so they wouldn't ever want to go back (which didn't completely work, sadly). How does that relate to our freedom in Christ? I know it's a bit of a stretch, but maybe that'll shed new light on your name's meaning! :)

My first name means "gift of the LORD", and I've heard that Lawrence (my middle name) means something like "crowned with laurel". Laurel is known for its fragrance especially. I take that to mean I'm to be a sweet-smelling sacrifice (gift) to God and others, like it says in Philippians 4:18 - "…I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God."

Ian means God is gracious/ Gift of God.

And coughs all our names are on urban dictionary. Look yours up at your own risk. There is some language in some of the definitions.

2 Corinthians 5:17

Hey, I looked up your name in our name book, and it has a good meaning! :) "Prosperous", and a verse that could go with that is Psalm 1:3: "And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper."
So…do with that what you like. ;D

Anna means "grace" or "favor". Dorothy means "gift of God". I like to joke that Anna is because I'm the favorite child :). Actually, my name has a lot of meaning and can be found in Ephesians 2:8: "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing, it is the gift of God." My name is a great reminder to myself that I have been saved by the grace of God alone. It's all His gift to me, not anything that I've done. Grace is also a good reminder to myself to show it to others and be compassionate towards them.

Per Strong's Hebrew dictionary, Caleb (most likely) means barker or yelper, hence dog, and by euphemism something else. Not a big fan of cats, so that's of passing accuracy. I was named with the meaning faithful, though. Dogs are faithful, right?
I'm also a heel-catcher, so there's that. :P

My name means "pure." It comes from the same root (Greek katharos )as Catherine (with a C or a K, however you like it :P), Kaitlyn… etc. Someone told me once that Katrina is the Spanish version. :P

That's so cool!! It's on my long list of things I'm going to study someday. (I should probably write all these things down; there are so many I'm going to start forgetting them. :P)

Gloria

Gloria means 'glory' in Latin… and my middle name, Sue, is a short form of Susanna, which means 'lily' in ancient Hebrew or 'rose' in modern Hebrew. Coleman is from Colmάn, which is from Colum, which is from Columba, which means 'dove' in Late Latin. Wow I didn't know that. that's cool! lol

2 Corinthians 5:17

My first name, Rachel, means "lamb". To me that reminds me that I am a child of God and need to follow him as my Shepherd. Psalm 23 could also tie in. =)
My middle name, Irene, means "peace". When I was little, I didn't exactly live up to this (I was quite hyper, lol) and not sure if I still do (I can still be hyper xD), but I think to me, this reminds me to be gentle and kind to those around me. =)
Any other thoughts that any of y'all might have, I'd love hearing! x)

Honestly, your middle name is how I remember the Greek word for peace (Eirene). I know, it's kind of weird, but random association helps me, so if I can think of an image or a face, I remember it better for some reason xP I did the same thing with Anna's name last year :P Like I said, kind of weird, but it helps! Then I have others whose names are NO help at all! (Glares at Zach xD)

Whoa, that's so cooool. I didn't realize my middle name was exactly the Greek word for peace except for one letter. Wow :D And hey, I don't care, I do things like that too! xD

Hannah means graceful (the opposite of what I am xP) and Joy means… see if you can figure it out :P

My first name doesn't fit, but my middle and last names do! XD (Joy Wright)

Nicolas means "victorious people," and Alexander means "protector of people." Interesting combination, I guess. Apply them as you will, because I don't think I'm going to. :P I can't find what Micaiah (my middle name) means, but I wasn't given that name because of its meaning, but because of the person in the Bible with the same name. You'll find the story in 1 Kings 22.

Never knew you were such a people person, Nicolas! Ahem.
Per Strong's, Micaiah means "who is like Jah?" Therefore your middle name is "Nobody".

What did you do with my name??? :)
Well, it's not a perfect spelling match, but I used the name Anna as a mnemonic last year for nats KW memorization ( 'anah= Hebrew for humble) As I said in the post above, any random association (no matter HOW random) helps me :)

Okay :).

Eirene

My first name means strong protector. :) But my middle name means peace. So I'm supposed to be a strong protector who stays at peace, I guess. Like what it says in Romans 12:18 - "If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men." :)
