This is a question I have been researching a lot lately (for my book), and I would like to hear your opinion on it.

Why should we memorize Scripture? (Supporting Bible verses would be wonderful)
Why do you memorize Scripture?
What prompted you to memorize Scripture?
Why do you continue to memorize Scripture?

Feel free to take one, or all of these questions. I look forward to hearing your responses and sharing some of my own. :)

P.S. When you get a chance, please tell me about your memorization story here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1PWlE8XDune0oge-V4lary_7DOGOeld66s28Ck7eOroE/edit

I created a form which asks essentially the same things: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1JhQQhMK2BrLd43IpJUaEl3SNw3Aosz_1yuIF8fJpj4w/viewform?usp=send_form

And in the mean time, I'll share a quote that sums up the value of memorizing Scripture:
Chuck Swindoll wrote in his book Growing Strong in the Seasons of Life, copyright 1994, “I know of no other single practice in the Christian life more rewarding, practically speaking, than memorizing Scripture. . . . No other single exercise pays greater spiritual dividends! Your prayer life will be strengthened. Your witnessing will be sharper and much more effective. Your attitudes and outlook will begin to change. Your mind will become alert and observant. Your confidence and assurance will be enhanced. Your faith will be solidified.”

"What prompted you to memorize scripture?"
Well, I used to do it because my Dad decided to have us memorize the bible as a family. So he would pick out a few verses, and then we would memorize them. Now, I do it because I know that learning the bible is important.

Wow that's really cool! I wish more parents would make their children memorize Scripture. The impact lasts a lifetime! It has encouraged and motivated you to continue memorizing God's Word on your own. Keep up the great work!

Here's another awesome quote I came across (You BB-ers should recognize it if you are paying attention to the very last part of the SS each day.) :)

"THIS BOOK (The Bible) contains the mind of God, the state of man, the way of salvation, the doom of sinners and the happiness of believers. Its doctrines are immutable. Read it to be wise, believe it to be safe and practice it to be holy. It contains light to direct you, food to support you and comfort to cheer you. It is the traveler’s map, the pilgrim’s staff, the pilot’s compass, the soldier’s sword and the Christian’s charter. Here paradise is restored, heaven opened and the gates of hell disclosed. Christ is its grand object; our good is its design and the glory of God its end. It should fill the memory, rule the heart, and guide the feet. Read it slowly, frequently, and prayerfully. It is a mine of wealth, a paradise of glory and a river of pleasure. It is given you in life, will be opened in the judgment, and will be remembered forever. It involves the highest responsibility, will reward the greatest labor, and will condemn all who trifle with its sacred contents." ~Anonymous

Have you found this to be true in your own life? How so?
