In It Not Of It

no….itself cant get viruses- its an operating system
but it has nothing to do with Windows…it doesnt affect it at all i dont think…..unless….maybe…..maybe it caused windows to crash!!!

gets an angry look

Windows and Linux are both operating systems , and can both be infected with viruses, and crash, but the Windows OS is very much more vulnerable to this happening.
I have used Windows almost exclusively, but have also used Linux.

I need to throw my opinion in here… (to start a debate of course :P ) But it's too late right now and no one else is on MV at 1:23 in the morning…

Yeah what is your opinion? I use Windows 8.1 and 7. The only Mac I've used was a very old iMac so my first impressions weren't very good :D I've been thinking about getting an Macbook Pro/Air. Value wise they looks better than other Apple products.

I could use both Mac or Windows… but the deal breaker is that Mac doesn't need virus protection because their running system is better. In rare circumstances they can get viruses, but I, nor anyone else I know that has a Mac, has ever had that problem.

Since I do quite a bit of movie editing here and there, I like iMovie way better than Window's Movie Maker. We used to say this joke while the video was "finalizing" with WMM, "Don't breathe unless you have to!" ;) iMovie works so much better and you don't have the risk of losing all your edited footage like you do with WMM.

And if you do have a problem, Mac has the best customer service. They will walk you through your problems over the phone. If you need to bring your device into the Apple Store (and that is so rare), they will fix everything so well.

I would totally recommend a Macbook Pro (that's what I have). The Airs are good too, but they don't have drive ports on the sides… I use flashdrives and discs, so I needed that on my computer, but if that's not your purpose, the Air would be fine. (I also hear they have a different type of hard-drive that will keep it so you won't ever lose your information even if the computer crashes.)

Whew… that was long. :P

I've been told that windows 8.1 doesn't need security software. But we do have avast antivirus on our other windows 7 computers. Movie editing wise, I normally use Adobe Premiere Elements which works pretty well. Yeah I know, WMM can be frustrating at times :). I agree that Apple has great customer service. We have a friend who sometimes helps us with computer problems. But for many other people good customer service is a necessity. We have an external dvd/cd drive via usb. So the air might be better for me. I don't know yet :) I'll have to look at my budget. A convertible hybrid windows 8.1 laptop looks cool too.

Okay, I don't really know anything about Windows 8.1, so I can't help you there! :)
Adobe Premiere Elements sound great, so I guess you don't have to worry about what editing software you want.

That is the drawback about Macs… they are expensive. :P

Yeah, but not that much more than other comparable computers. So I'm just weighing up if the mac lasts longer is it worth the extra money :)

My new laptop just arrived! And it's not a Mac. :P I decided to go for a Sony VAIO Pro 13! It is sooo light! It's the lightest 13.3" laptop in the world :) :) So happy!
