My name is Stan Peck. I am a waiting on certification mental health therapist who sees this site as extremely beneficial. I am enjoying memorizing my first 10 verses and now see that the Word of God needs to be meditated on and memorized in order for us to truly use it to combat sin and live a fruitful life.

Thanks so much to everyone for their wonderful replies.
Sometimes it takes a while for me to reply. I have been training
for a newly acquired job as a server until I can get my feet
in the ground with some place as a counselor.

Please continue to pray for me to acquire a therapist position
somewhere as my family and I are pretty desperate for money
right now.

Someone mentioned depression. The cognitive behavioral therapies
are good for depression and have found high efficacy rates using them.
A lot of times, for me at least, replacing my negative thoughts with
positive ones every time they arise, is very beneficial.
Also, I have been learning some about behavioral activation therapy in which basically you
don't want to reinforce our bad behaviors such as sitting on a porch and worrying
about your life, but find some way to bring life to your daily activities, instead
when you plan your day, come up with exciting and new things to do. Sounds basic
right? but I know people who never plan anything new or exciting for them to
do during the day, it's the same routine over and over. My own personal
therapy for myself is what I call, 'restaurant therapy.' If I am ever down,
I go somewhere and let myself be served and enjoy a meal and a good cup of coffee.
It's basic, but it kept me out of depression when I was in my early 20's and living with
my parents, when I was having issues with life.

All of this stems under good self-care! Unless we take care of ourselves, we can't take
care of anybody else!

Thanks for all your replies,
Stan

I sure understand that! I worry a lot because I have to much time on my hands to think. I have plenty to do, but it's always the same so I'm uses to it and kinda board and desperate for change (which can turn into depression).

Sometimes I get out of boring routines by taking a short trip or something, even if it's just 60 miles away.

In looking for solutions to problems, sometimes remembering the past and what has worked for you is key. My friends have told me I shouldn't dwell on the past, but I say, 'I was born in September and I remember.' However, sometimes we need only to reflect on what has worked for us in the past may work for us today. Sometimes those things can be solutions for our future. For example, take memverse.com. The reason I sought out this board was because I was remembering a time in my life, 1990, when my life was going much better than it ever has. I remembered what I was doing back then that was different, which it was the only time in my life I was memorizing scripture. Therefore, now that I am doing it again, it has been great for defeating sin and improving my relationship with God and my life.
