Hi, I'm Jessica, and I just started Memverse in February.
I live on a five acre hobby farm in the Ozark mountains of Arkansas with my mom and dad, and with a sweet English mastiff, four cats (one older than dirt, two mentally impaired, and one too smart for his own good), six Nubian goats, one attack rabbit, various and sundry chickens, two personable geese, and four crazy zebra finches.
I was home-schooled, and I love plants and animals, and I enjoy learning to play old time fiddle, reading, writing, knitting, listening to music, and gardening.
We don't have public television, and we don't miss it. I read the KJV, and enjoy doing so; I believe all of it is true.
I don't believe in evolution. You can't believe the Bible and believe in evolution.
By the way, my mom is grannyjo :-) :-)
God bless you!

Thank you, Alex!
Would you please explain to me how to change my profile picture? You'll have to explain in detail, I'm afraid, because I'm borderline computer illiterate. This is the first time I've done anything like this on the computer.
How's the weather in Pennsylvania, by the way? The weather has certainly been interesting here!
Thank you again, and God bless you!

Oh, don't worry. I'm used to people picking on me. I've got an older brother, and a brother-in-law who do that plenty, so that shouldn't be a problem. :-)

Y'all will have to be patient with me while I learn how to work this thing.
Yeah, Sarah, there are some good stories about Tucker, the crooked-tailed-terror, but I think that there are too many to list here. I can tell you about him, though.
First, I'll tell you how he came into our lives. We already had three cats, but one day in the middle of winter Tucker started showing up in our yard, kinda fighting with our other two outdoor cats. We didn't really want another cat, but we couldn't stand it when he sat underneath our back door one day and was meowing at us. He was almost starved to death. So, of course, we started feeding him, figuring that he was just passing through. Silly us. Needless to say, he adopted us. We also thought that he was an old cat, but it turns out the vet said he was a year younger than our other two cats. So, he stayed, and I daresay he is the best cat that we have now.
He can climb ladders, and climb down them head-first. He loves playing in leaf piles, hiding himself completely, and jumping out at unsuspecting passerby (it's REALLY funny when one of our other cats, Frodo, passes by, because he's afraid of everything). He doesn't realize how big he's not. One time one of our neighbors had a dog that would come and jump on our car, or on you, if you were available. Did I mention that Tucker likes to ride on the hoods of cars when they're going slow like he's a hood ornament? Well, one day he was on the hood when the dog decided to jump on the car. The dog quickly changed her mind. I also found out that the dog wouldn't jump on you if you were carrying that cat. A spit from the cat sent the dog running.
He's quite the hunter, too.
That's all that I can think of right now, but I'll probably thing of more later. :-)

Hey, Deadpool, about the rabbit, WOULD YOU LIKE TO HAVE HER? You can have her, free of charge! We seem to specialize in acquiring attack rabbits, for some strange reason. We were hoping that she'd turn out to be a sweet pet, like Thumper, or something, not a Were-rabbit!
We have a television, and we do Netflix. Telekineses…….hm. Had to ask my Mom what that meant. Visions from God….would dreams qualify?

I also have a cat named Pippin, who's Frodo's brother, by the way. My fourth cat's name is Sassy, you know, the one I said was older than dirt? She 14-15 now. Frodo and Pippin look nothing alike, even though they're brothers, by the way.

I thought of something else that's amazing about Tucker: he kills poisonous snakes. We've seen him kill copperheads before, and he's gotten bit, but he survived. We think that maybe the other boys do it, too.
I'd like to hear your stories! :-)
More detail on Tucker killing snakes: my mom was out in the yard in sandals around dusk, and when she was walking somewhere, Tucker pounced on something on the ground in her path. Ended up being a copperhead. That was one time we know he got bit. He was really getting after that snake anyway, no matter if it was biting him. When Mom called the vet, she said that he'd be dead by morning. But, thankfully, he survived, and still doing perfectly fine, even though he limps occasionally.

Wow! Your cat sounds like our dog! She was a small chihuahua mix, but she was fierce and killed several copperheads. She never barked unless there was a turtle, a snake, or something else that got her excited. Unfortunately she died a few months ago due to a space-heater incident :( We loved her so much though, and she was the bestest dog ever!

I'm sorry about your dog, Emmy. It's always sad when you lose one.
The best dog I think that we have ever had was a black shar-pei named Pokey Marie. Yes, I know, I was terrible at naming things then. And she was NOT a pokey little puppy. She didn't know how big she wasn't, even though she was the runt of the litter. Surprisingly, she was a good farm dog. She got along with goats well, though not so much with other dogs, or most people.

What's my favorite music style? Well, I like to listen to all kinds of music. I like listening to most oldies, Celtic, religious or gospel, old-time fiddle…I can't think of any more right now. I'm listening to old-time fiddle most recently, because that's what I play on the fiddle.
From what I understand, mastiffs in general are gentle giants. I know that my mastiff (Tater) is very sweet. They're also supposed to be excellent kid's dogs, and Tater is. She didn't even know what kids were when we brought her home. Then when my sister brought my niece and nephew over, after a little while, it didn't take her long to realize she loved them. And she still does.
My nephew is 9 now, and my niece just turned 5.
What's your favorite music style? :-)

They're smaller goats (hence the "dwarf"), and they can be used for milking, but we have them for pets and to get rid of some of our shrubs. :)

Welcome to Memverse! You sound like the kind of person we need around more often. :)

I want to hear about your cats- we have a cat that at two years old is extremely fat, has cataracts in both eyes, no depth perception, and is the only cat I haven't seen land on his feet. XD

A99f65457dbcfaddd2a273afc787564e?s=128&d=mm

Jessica Rankin

Hi!
Wow! I've never heard of a cat with cat-aracts before! May I ask what his name is?
I thought of another story about Tucker. A few years ago we had a guy come out and measure our roof in the first steps of getting it replaced. Of course, he had to use a ladder to get up on the roof, and any time Tucker is around and sees a ladder, he thinks he needs to climb it. We stood guard at the bottom of the ladder to keep him from climbing it, so he had to find an alternative route. So, he climbed one of the large red oak trees that grows near our house, climbed out on one of the branches that was over the house, and simply jumped down on the roof. The roof guy commented, "That cat ain't no dummy, is he?"
Personally, I think that he's the smartest cat that we have, and the most agile.
By the way, I read your introduction, and I'm curious…what kind of birds do you have up there in Alaska? I know many of the birds, and their calls, around here, and I was wondering if you have some, or many, of the same birds that we have down here. If you want, I could tell you some of the birds that we have around here. :-)
Also, may I ask what other musical instrument you play beside the violin and the flute?
May I also ask what kind of things that you knit? I'm knitting the same vest that I've been working on for months now. It's my first attempt at a vest. Socks are much smaller, and I think much faster, than sweaters. I thought I heard somewhere that socks and sweaters take about the same amount of time because of the needle and yarn size difference. I don't think that's true, at least not so far. Maybe when I get faster.
What's the weather like up there? Are there any flowers blooming? It got up to 92 F today, and our irises and roses are blooming. We've also got hummingbirds, and Mom has put out ten of her twelve feeders out and is refilling them regularly. It looks like a beehive about evening time. :-)
Sorry if I'm bombarding you with questions, but I have one more question: how many goats do you have, and what kind?

A99f65457dbcfaddd2a273afc787564e?s=128&d=mm

Jessica Rankin

Yeah, I've heard of acronyms before, I just wasn't sure what that one meant.
You might need to tell me what these different acronyms mean until I catch on. :-)

Christine Daaé (Dani the Older)

His name is Lewie, and his sister's is Portia.

We have a lot of different birds- robins, chickadees, mountain bluebirds, all three eiders, blue throats, pine grosbeaks, white-winged crossbills, redpolls. Want more?

I play piano, piccolo, a little classical guitar, handbells, dulcimer, and I'd like to learn harp.

I've been knitting socks and scarves recently, and crocheting headbands.

We aren't up in AK right now, but they've had an unusual spring, and it was seventy degrees the other day! So there will probably be leaves out at the end of this week, unless it freezes again. We'll be getting home in June, just when the roses and irises bloom. We don't have hummingbirds, though. :'(

We don't have goats yet. Hopefully, we'll get Toggenburgs when we go home.
