Rachel the Alaskan

My old introduction is lost somewhere in the depths of old threads on this topic, so I thought I'd write a new one so everyone I don't know can know me better. :)

So, as most of you know, my name is Rachel M. I live with my family of 2 brothers, 2 sisters, and Dad and Mom a little way north of Fairbanks, Alaska. We have a little homestead (that's slowly turning into a real home! We do have an unfinished house) on 40 acres with our two cats and many dream animals that sometime may come into existence. :)

My favorite two animals are horses and cats (I like them equally) and my least are….well, I don't know. I like pretty much all animals except for little yappy dogs and gorillas. (My dislike for gorillas started years ago when I got a little stuffed gorilla for my birthday that waddled around and made the scariest noises.)

I have many varied hobbies, which include making miniatures (my miniature cabin won Grand Champion in the fair this year), drawing (a favorite of mine), some watercolor painting, cross stitching, sewing, reading (the Anne of Green Gables series, Little Women, and Beautiful Girlhood are among my favorites), playing (and working) outside, baking, cooking, playing piano, and playing violin. My interests are always making little turns, so I'm often doing two or three things at the same time, depending on what I'm interested in at the moment. Drawing always has been my favorite, though.

I love Classical music and hymns. No offense, but I can't bear Contemporary Christian and rock and things that are even only partway like either of those. (Please realize I'm not trying to start a debate- or argument, whatever you like- about what music is good and what isn't. I'm just stating the facts.)

Sometime I would like to get into acting more than I have been, but for now I'll be satisfied with doing skits for the yearly Speech and Drama Competition here at our local fair.

Our family are missionaries to the Native Alaskans in the villages up here. You can read more about our ministry at MillersInAlaska.org. Dad's a pilot, so we use our Piper Cherokee Lance to get out to the villages.

I myself hope to get my pilot's license sometime in the (hopefully somewhat near) future.

I've done the Bible Bee since I was 7- all 7 (or is it 8?) years! I was blessed to qualify for Nationals in 2010, 2012, and this year. (This year all of my competing siblings and I qualified!)

I became a child of God since I was 8, and have been learning so much about the Christian life through my different Bible readings and devotionals. My favorite Bible passage is Romans 8- particularly verses 38 and 39.

Romans 8:38-39
"38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Well, I think that's just about it. I'm looking forward to meeting whoever I haven't met!

(Wow, that turned out long! Well nobody can say they don't know me at least a little bit after reading this! :P)

It's still great to have you on here, Rachel. :) I remember the day I first met you on one of yhe numbered Social Chats. You had an avatar of yourself with a kitten. That picture was so cute, and made a lot of conversations about cats. :)

Hi Rachel M. That's so cool that your dad is a pilot. Right now my brother is in Virginia going for a pilot too. He will get his private pilot's license her in Bellingham Washington Next year… it's going to be very exciting. How long has your dad been a pilot?

Yelena- so sorry I didn't respond till now!

My Dad learned how to pilot in the Marine Corps. It's been about 17 years. :D
That's so cool that your brother is learning how to fly! I'm really hoping to this summer, but I'm not sure how that'll work out. :)
