What would be the point of putting my name here?

Jedidiah Diligence Breckinridge III

Alright, so I don't know that an introduction thread is really necessary, since I've jumped into the forums for some time now, but here it is anyway.

I'm Sarah, I'm 18 and three quarters, and I live in Washington State. (Not to be confused with the District of Columbia.) I'm second oldest of ten kids: five brothers and four sisters. You may have noticed a sarcastic and strange girl running around the forums causing trouble? Right now I think she calls herself Jehoiada the Hivite for some unknown reason? Yeah. That's my sister. No need to feel sorry for me, I've gotten used to it…Oh, and believe it or not, I'm really introverted in person. (Ask Carissa.)

That's about all the general stuff I can think of, but here's a list of things I like just in case any of you want to stalk me… (and it's in no particular order, except as I think of things. So the fact that "I like confusing people" is towards the bottom means that might not be the first thing you notice about me.)

  1. Bible/Bible Bee.
  2. Narnia.
  3. England (especially Winston Churchill/WWII era).
  4. History in general.
  5. LoTR.
  6. CollegePlus (some of you know what that is).
  7. Logic.
  8. Grammar.
  9. Books. Pretty much any books, but especially English ones.
  10. Skype.
  11. Writing.

reserves the right to add to the above list at any point

Speaking of writing, here's a link to my blog:

Nice to get to know you more…since I didn't get to at Nationals :)
And yes you are very introverted!

I don't see "likes to confuse people" anywhere on the list.
My dear chap, that was entirely the point.

LOL!

And she likes periods. ;)

Sarah

Sarah, you do know that it's hard to think of you as a "Voice of Reason" when the person right below your name is sticking his tongue out at me, right? :-)

I remember when I made it too.

I also remember when you joined the forums, and I was confused at how often the name "Sarah" was coming up suddenly…it made me feel slightly apprehensive, even though I knew it wasn't me.

I finished Psmith in the City and, having just received Mike and Psmith as an ILL, have begun to read it. Psmith is quite the character indeed. I'm really enjoying Wodehouse's sense of humor. Thank you for the recommendation!

You are very welcome. It is a great pleasure to meet another Wodehouse fan.

The original or the abridged?

I never recommend abridged books (except in the case of the Princess Bride, where the original does not exist).

Who doesn't want to learn all about monasteries and sewer systems and the battle of Waterloo?

You don't get the full flavor of Victor Hugo if you skip all that stuff.

I agree. I don't like reading abridged books because I'm afraid that they left something interesting or good out.

Sarah B.

Sarah, do you recommend the abridged book of the Princess Bride? I thought it was terrible, but I love the movie!

Well, it's not actually an abridgment, since S. Morgenstern does not exist. I don't know that I'd completely recommend the book, but I found it just as hilarious as the movie.

Mommy's Helper

Maybe she means: she's a "Daddy's kid" a "Mommy's kid" and a "Sister's sister".

Close, I meant "Dad's kid" "Mom's kid" and "Sibling's sister"

Update with a new book recommendation! Read _Les Miserables_. That is all.

I tried reading that book.

I really tried.

BUT IT WAS SO SLOW AND IN OLDE ENGLISH!

Seriously. Reading the first few chapters was like slogging through knee-deep mud. I'm so glad Focus on the Family made the audio version. I love the story, but the book is just hard to read…

It is not in Old English.
This is Old English:
On þyssum geare man halgode þet mynster æt Westmynstre on Cyldamæsse dæg 7 se cyng Eadward forðferde on Twelfts mæsse æfen 7 hine mann bebyrgede on Twelftan mæssedæg innan þære niwa halgodre circean on Westmyntre 7 Harold eorl feng to Englalandes cynerice swa swa se cyng hit him geuðe 7 eac men hine þærto gecuron 7 wæs gebletsod to cynge on Twelftan mæssedæg 7 þa ylcan geare þe he cyng wæs he for ut mid sciphere togeanes Willelme … 7 þa hwile com Willelm eorl upp æt Hestingan on Sce Michaeles mæssedæg 7 Harold com norðan 7 him wið gefeaht ear þan þe his here com eall 7 þær he feoll 7 his twægen gebroðra Gyrð 7 Leofwine and Willelm þis land geeode 7 com to Westmynstre 7 Ealdred arceb hine to cynge gehalgode 7 menn guldon him gyld 7 gislas sealdon 7 syððan heora land bohtan.

Practically unreadable. Les Miserables is certainly an older style of writing, but it's more modern than the KJV. Unless you tried to read the original french, in which case I sympathize with you.

I should qualify this by saying, I'm only talking about the _book_, not the movie. I don't recommend the movie necessarily.

I wish I'd been born earlier so I could have seen the stage production.

Yes! I feel that way about My Fair Lady too.

I didn't know there was a stage production of My Fair Lady! The movie is great, though.

True, the movie is pretty awesome, though I could do without a couple of the songs. Why Can't the English Teach their Children How to Speak is my favourite of the songs. :D
