On a fundamental level, are all sins equally bad? If there where two perfect people (I know that is impossible) and one of them murdered someone, and another stole from someone, would they be punished differently? Are some sins better than others? Is is just as bad to covet your neighbors house, as to murder your neighbor? If some sins are worse than others, which is the worst?

I've wondered things like this too. And it's like this - will Adolf Hitler be punished differently than a sweet old lady who didn't know Jesus?

I think that some sins must be worse than others, since God judges some sins more harshly than others.

In Luke 12:42-48, Jesus strongly implies that there will be degrees of punishment for sin in hell:

"That servant who knew his master's will but did not get ready or act according to his will, will receive a severe beating. But the one who did not know, and did what deserved a beating will receive a light beating." Luke 12:47-48a
