Christians and Conflict

What is the proper way for Christians to handle conflicts? Discuss.
Hiruko Kagetane
Win.
Sarah B.
So is it better for Christians to walk away from (forgive and forget) an argument? Or stick with it and fight to the end?
Andrew
A. Go to higher ground.
B. Get real about yourself.
C. Gently engage.
D. There's more, I forget em.
Sarah B.
Hm. Do you know of any scripture to support those statements? Just wondering…
Courtney M.
Give up your rights. No one wins arguments, they just think they do. Are you talking about arguments, anyway? EDIT: if so, then just don't get into them. Just look at what Jesus did when the Pharisees tried to draw him into argument.
biblebee
True. But sometimes we do get into arguments.
Hiruko Kagetane
No we don't! When does that ever happen?
biblebee
snorts All. The. Time.
Courtney M.
Well then I suppose we should get out of them ASAP. :P Seriously! Think about if Jesus would be arguing about whatever we're arguing about, and examine yourself. Pride so blurs our vision sometimes.
Hiruko Kagetane
Ha! Never! Name one instance!
biblebee
Okay. Good point.
Sam: You know! I don't need to tell you!
Andrew
I'm sorry, could you please define 'argue', I don't know what you mean by it.
Courtney M.
Hmm. Maybe a better word would be 'dispute'. Webster's 1828 Dictionary defines it as: "To strive or contend for, either by words or actions; as, to dispute a prize. Strife or contest in words or by arguments; an attempt to prove or maintain one's own opinions or claims, by arguments or statements, in opposition to the opinions, arguments, or claims of another; controversy in words."
It all comes down to a root of pride. Anyone who has siblings will know that we sometimes argue about things that are pointless, as we can see when we cool off and reflect. A majority of the time, we are arguing/disputing about are rights, which are things that we should as Christians give up to God. (e.g. our right to NOT do dinner cleanup, our right to be respected by younger siblings, our right to the computer at the moment, and, well, you get the idea.)
Make any sense?
God's Maiden of Virtue
You both are arguing right now.
biblebee
nods I know…
Andrew
It makes "sense", but I don't believe that I agree with it. It seem you are saying that all arguing is foolishness. I think Paul said avoid 'foolish contentions'. Was Ken Ham wrong to give a defense of his beliefs to Bill Nye?
God's Maiden of Virtue
I don't believe it was wrong for Ken Ham to give a defense of his beliefs to Bill Nye. 1 Peter 3:15 says to always be ready to give a defense for the hope that is within us.

Alright, yes, I agree with that. "Foolish contentions'' is a good way to describe it. Ken Ham wasn't disputing petty trifles and rights - he was being a good witness to the rest of the world - defending the truth.
Courtney M.
I think that is a very good summary of the issue. :)
Mommy's Helper
Just think if Jesus would be arguing about it.
Also, an organized debate (like the Ken Ham/Bill Nye debate) I don't think is wrong. No one would organize a debate over a petty issue normally, and it normally doesn't get heated, the debaters can't interrupt each other, and in front of all those people I bet they wouldn't say anything bad!
Courtney M.
Yep! WWJD
