Aaghh… No. Pretty simple answer. If anyone wants to debate this, I'll prove it. I sure hope no one does, though… :P (Uh-oh… YOU don't, do you, Danielle?? ;D)

Haven't heard of this, but there are enough whacky things out there that are claimed as by God's Holy Spirit, which are just plain blasphemy. Any thing that is claimed to be from God, must be in alignment with his word, whether they are healings or visions etc.
God won't give you a vision that tells you to 'go divorce your current husband' and to go after someone else, (real scenario). Why? Because He says in his revealed Word "I hate divorce" (Malachi 2:16). It was another spirit or voice in her head that was talking.
We get to know what God is like from reading what he has said.
1 John 4:1-6 seems to apply well here.
(ESV) 4 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3 and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already. 4 Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 5 They are from the world; therefore they speak from the world, and the world listens to them. 6 We are from God. Whoever knows God listens to us; whoever is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of error.

What is it? I always thought IHOP was international house of pancakes… I mean, before we moved to Oregon, there was a restaurant in our area called that!

BTW: Danielle, what exactly do you mean "fall out of the spirit"? I'm a bit confused!

Well there is a resturant called IHOP (International House of Pancakes) but there is also IHOP (International House of Prayer). I don't know how to exactly explain but if you look it up you could find out about it.

Hmmm looks kinda strange. I looked at the website really quick and I have heard of several 24/7 prayer watches… I don't think that's a bad thing, but IHOP was saying stuff that sorta reminded me of the faith healing movement…. Not that we shouldn't pray for one another, but we need to be careful that it's not a "prayer craze"! (Made the term up myself ;)

Could be wrong though, like I said, I took a REALLY fast look!

How about you?

Falling out (or being slain in the spirit) is when some one is normally at like a revival or big 'prayer' meeting thing and they just pass out. A lot of the time they convulse or start walking weird and shaking. And they say it's like 'the Holy Spirit overwhelming them' or whatever but it just seems like chaos to me.

blinks Hm, I don't remember Peter, or Paul, or any of the other apostles passing out because of the Holy Spirit. Not even vibrating. Maybe on Pentecost….checks Bible…….no. Hm. Wonder why they'd say it's true when it isn't in the Bible………..

The only place i have heard about International House of Prayer was the central IA extension of the KC office hosted our 2009 local Bible Bee!! :) Also, if I remember correctly one of the winners from the 2009 national Bible Bee went to work at the KC office. (I dont know if it is the same international house of prayer IHOP).

I have never heard of this term about being falling out of the spirit. Is it the same thing as the phrase "falling out of grace"?

This kind of behaviour described sounds alot like that described by Ray Comfort in one of his messeges, however he was talking about his experience with those possessed with devils. (are you pondering what i'm pondering?)
As for IHOP, I haven't heard anything actually good about them, seems to be part of the 'New Apostolic Reformation' or the 'Emergent Church'.
Lets stick with the good ol' teachings found in the Bible, not something new.

@Marie: Truman…the 2nd place senior in 2009…is from our bee and he is part of IHOP.

@All: I do not agree at all with IHOP…just wanted to clarify.

I think that those who say they are "slain in the Spirit" or are "falling out in the Spirit" or experiencing the totally ridiculous "Spirit laughter" are either faking, or… they are possessed by A spirit, not THE Spirit.

The origanal term was slain in the spirit. But people were like that makes no sense!! So now people call it falling out. The reason I posed this question was because my older brother goes to a Christian University and they have speakers that come and talk and they are like very charismatic and at these thing when they are speaking and stuff people just start shaking and totally loosing control of themselves. And then sometime he'll just be sitting in the library studing and hear a big crash and 3 people will just be laying on the floor. It definitely isn't the Holy Spirit but then you have to imply that is something else… Or do people just trip over there own emotions??

People probably just convince themselves that what they are feeling is the Holy Spirit, when it is just their imagination and nothing really is happening to them.
