Is Medicine Biblical?

However, certainly not all treatments are Biblical. There is a story by Edgar Allan Poe in which someone hypnotized a dying man, thinking that the trance would keep him alive. I don't think that kind of stuff is appropriate. (In the story, what happened is: the man did die, but the trance kept the soul in the body, preserving it. Because of the trance, when the body was asked what condition it was in, it replied that it was dead. Seven months later, the hypnotist took the body out of the trance and it rotted away in less than a minute. I would think this is possible if I thought God would allow it.)

I'm not sure who's crazier…the person who wrote the story or the ones who believe it.

The argument that medicine keeps people from dying when God wants them to, suggests that God is not in complete control if a person dies. If God can't enforce when one dies, then our life is on a thread. It would suggest that maybe God can't save someone from death, as he couldn't save someone from life.

I was reading through some of this, and it is certainly a very interesting topic.

What do y'all think about healthy eating? On the one hand, it seems like we should take good care of our bodies and not eat sugar, white flour, etc. very often. But, on the other hand, when we become very strict with health, it can make it difficult for people to be around us. So, for instance, what do you do when you go to someone's house and they serve you a bunch of unhealthy stuff? ^I'm not going to answer that one extensively, because I think that we ought to be grateful for what we receive, but I'd be interested to hear other's thoughts.^

I noticed that a few people were opposed to C-sections. I definitely think that going natural is a better option, but I just had to say, I might not be around if it were not for C-sections. Of course, I don't know that for sure, but that certainly could be the case. Although my mom didn't originally plan to have C-sections, all nine of us were. This gives Mommy an opportunity to encourage moms who've had C-sections and think that they can't have more to welcome the blessing of children. Hope no one minded me shouting out why I'm thankful for C-sections – just sayin' that you might not know most of us Mosses if it weren't for C-sections.

What do y'all think about going to the doctor for mild sickness (colds, fever, stomach bug, etc.)? The last two times I've gone (we were about to go out of town, so my parents made me :P), the doctor told me that I wasn't sick and sent me home :). Going to the doctor didn't help a bit. On the other hand, we had a fourteen year-old friend who died of complications with the flu five years ago. I'm sure that her parents wish that they had taken her to the doctor before it was too late, but it seems like cases like that are rare.

Sorry for rambling so much. I haven't been on the forums in a few weeks, so I talk more than I ^probably^ would otherwise :).
