What are your thoughts? All thing in moderation? Where do "YOU" Draw the line?

Ruth Smith

I draw the line when the activity is not encouraging and uplifting, or glorifying to God. If you can't see a profit either physical or spiritual coming from the activity, and if the sole purpose of your participation is to promote yourself, and make yourself look good, than it is not an activity in which God can get glory. Even most social networking sites can become destructive when they have no purpose other than to glorify self, and connect with people for mutual foolishness.
If this verse cannot be applied to the activity, than I would consider it unnecessary. "And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ." Colossians 3:23-24

I agree with Elanee.

The #1 question should be: Does it glorify God? I believe that is one of our primary purposes on earth.

If we're not glorifying God with our actions, should we really be acting in that way? Answer is no!

Very recently, I started judging what I did by what it taught me or made me think about. If your thoughts are leading in a direction, you might follow. I like what you said, "I draw the line when the activity is not encouraging and uplifting, or glorifying to God. If you can't see a profit either physical or spiritual coming from the activity, and if the sole purpose of your participation is to promote yourself, and make yourself look good, than it is not an activity in which God can get glory." I am trying to draw my own line here.

Very recently, I started judging what I did by what it taught me or made me think about. If my thoughts start to lead in a certain direction that gave me a red flag, I would stop and pray. I like what you said, "I draw the line when the activity is not encouraging and uplifting, or glorifying to God. If you can't see a profit either physical or spiritual coming from the activity, and if the sole purpose of your participation is to promote yourself, and make yourself look good, than it is not an activity in which God can get glory." Okay… so does your last name start with a M, or an H? I'm thinking I might know who you are!

I absolutely think that we should glorify God in everything we do. But does that mean that we should never do anything purely for the fun of it? Of course, like Elanee said, if we're doing something just to glorify ourselves, that should stop. But what about something that is not directly God-glorifying–but you are acting in a way that glorifies God while you do it? The game of Tag or similar games, board games, or even some of the conversations that have been going on here on Memverse, may seem to be "pointless," and they usually are. But is it always a bad thing to do something just to have fun?

If Something is not good, does that make it bad?
If Something is not bad, does that make it good?
Is there a neutral ground? "He who is not for me, is against me."
Just to clarify I have pointless conversations all the time.
But aren't we suppose to be redeeming the time?

I don't think that the verse that you mentioned in your comment can apply to this situation. We are not talking about neutrality of spiritual things, but of physical things. As for your question about redeeming the time, you are absolutely correct. That's why we should be very careful not to do pointless things too often, nor to spend too much time on them when we do them. :)
