Is it good that women are now allowed to vote? Was it okay that they pressed so hard for it? What about everything else… like being allowed to do some things besides staying at home all day…?

Sir Walter (Jimmy)

On the whole, I think that it is definitely a good thing that women are allowed to vote. At my school (Patrick Henry College), a have a wonderful, Christian U.S. History professor who talked about why women pushed for the vote and what the situation around that time was.

Essentially, women in the early 1900s were viewed as moral superiors to men. Now this superiority was not said to have come by nature (women are not naturally less sinful than men), but because they generally stayed at home while the men went off into the "world" to work (where they had to face sin, wickedness, and misery). They were seen as the "angel in the home," whose job was to make the home a Godly sanctuary where the man could rest and be at peace. Because the women were seen as less tainted by sin (they had fewer encounters with it), they were regarded as typically morally superior. Of course, the men continued to be the spiritual leaders, but on questions of morality, men typically appreciated what their wives had to say. (This situation was not always the case; still, it was the widespread pattern.)

Because they were already esteemed so highly, many women felt that they did not even need the vote. They already had good influence (both with themselves, and with their children whom they could raise to be Godly leaders). There was no necessity to attain suffrage.

On the other hand, many women felt that this was not good enough and that they were being denied their rights (we generally already know the arguments on this side).

I think that the arguments for basic rights of suffrage are logical and Biblical. While I do see the logic in the other view (the "Angel in the Home"), I think that that mindset could really only work during that time and would be hard to implement and argue for today.

Was it good that they pressed so hard for it? Yes, I believe so (excepting certain instance where (this really happened!) British women's protestors threw themselves under the hooves of the horses of royal coach while it was moving and were trampled to death. They tried to bring attention to their cause, and things like this are wrong). Sometimes their attitudes were wrong and their goals were clouded, but I think that voting rights are something to be pushed for, strongly if necessary.

As for everything else, I would say it would have to depend. I would NOT support a woman minister or a preacher, for instance, but I might be willing to support a woman President (I do not see explicit Biblical passages refuting this). I definitely think that Scripture never says that women are to stay at home ALL DAY. I believe men and women are generally called to different roles, but that does not mean the houses' walls must become a prison.

Does that make sense? :)

Women should be allowed to do anything a man can.

1 Peter 3:7

Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the WEAKER VESSEL, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered.

No, they can't be allowed to do anything that a man can. We can't do everything men can. It's not possible, because that's the way God made us.

We should stay at home, because God made us to be helpmeets.

And, in and of itself, women getting the vote was fine, but it sure opened the door to a lot of bad stuff, which eventually led to public schooling, divorce, and abortion.

Who said anything about _wifes and husbands_?? And public schooling?! Who said that's a bad thing!?

Because its govment-run. The state wants to indoctrinate childers so they can become mindless slaves to a dictatorial regime.

Hey, guys! Let's try to keep a bit more on topic. Actually, this might be a great topic to talk about, but it might be less confusing if it had its own, separate thread. :)

It means the govment wants to teach kids to be liberals.

Pretty much. And there's got to be a problem when kids come to me crying and saying they don't want to go to public school. They teach them lies. And on the wall of the Fairbanks high school, there is a sign that says, 'Ask not what you country can do for you… Actually, go ahead. Ask.'

Just a couple of problems :)

Abigail, I wasn't talking about husbands and wives specifically. That's just the verse I grabbed. Men and women are suited for different kinds of jobs. Even after the fall, God gave Adam and Eve each different curses. And when He commanded that men and women should wear different clothing, that's just the external. I think the heart of it is that men and women have different roles, and shouldn't try to act like each other.

(By the way, I'm not saying that girls can't wear pants; there are girls pants and guys pants, just like in Bible times there were girls skirts and guys skirts :D)

He wasn't very godly. Even though he said a lot of very good, right, and true things, I also realized that he wasn't exactly the most godly leader I'd ask for when we went to D.C.

But they fail to teach the ultimate and the only source of truth, which is the fact that:

I'M DEADPOOL!

You know, when you say that, even though most of us know you're teasing, it really looks like you are putting yourself in the place of God. Often I wonder what an unbeliever would think if they were browsing this and saw a lot of the things that are said or depicted on here.

The ultimate and only source of truth…it isn't that Noah is deadpool. The ulitmate and only source of truth is that God is God. And for Noah to say that it looks like he's putting Himself in God's place.

Stefani Longo asked me to post this for her :)

I am actually really glad you started this topic, Hannah. I don't believe women should vote. That may sound obnoxious, but I think that the whole “womens rights” movement is unbiblical. Women should be respected and not treated as less than man, but they are also under man (authority). Like someone said- they are the weaker vessel. I think it is in no wise unconstitutional, perfectly right in that sense. I just think it is unbiblical. It puts women on the same authority level as man. Women are to be in subjection to their own husbands (1 pet. 3:1) . The only reason women would want to vote is because they disagree with their husbands/fathers. Before the 19th amendment, the husbands would vote for the household. I think it violates marital unity. My opinion. I own it. I also miss memverse.
Now you may ask : well then will you vote? Yes I will vote- because I now have the chance to put another vote toward the cause our family will believe in. I think husbands and wives should not be going against each other on election day- or any day for that matter.
Women working outside of the home? Don't put money before your kids souls.

Nope! If God meant for us to do the same things, He would have made us the same.

Thank you, Jimmy, you reminded me. What about women ministers? Presidents? Governors? Mayors?

Women aren't made to be in a position of leadership. We are to be helpmeets to our fathers while we are at home, and our husbands once we marry. The highest and holiest calling for a woman is to be a wife and mother.

What about women ministers?

"And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence. For Adam was formed first, then Eve." ~1 Timothy 2:12-13
Note: This is referring to men and women in church. It is not saying that women cannot teach a Bible study or something. But it is answering your question that no, it is not appropriate for women to be a pastor/minister.

It's just the way he does it. Really, the ultimate truth in life is that he's Deadpool? I know he's kidding, or I hope he is, but it just could look very disrespectful to God, our Creator and Savior. Which is a reason that I don't like worshipping him with the same music that Satan is worshipped with.
