Upcoming Bible Bee quizzes
The concept of Bible Bee quizzes on Memverse seems to be quite popular. :) Please mark your calendars and spread the word about upcoming quizzes: Friday, July 8, at 4:00 PM EDT; Friday, July 15, at 4:00 PM EDT; and Friday, July 22, at 4:00 PM EDT. I plan to lead the first quiz on this blog post (materials will be from Week 5, mainly Primary verses with a few Junior as well); the later two quizzes will each probably have a separate blog post to run on and other volunteers will probably run them. Update: Bethany will be running the July 22nd quiz and we are still looking for anyone who would like to run the quiz on the 15th. :) Thanks.
We expect each quiz to last about an hour and there will be fifteen questions. For ten of the questions (the first five and the last five), I will post a comment with the text of a Bible Bee verse passage in all five Bible Bee approved versions (NIV, ESV, KJV, NKJV, and NASB) and you will have a minute to post the reference. For five of the questions (they will be in the middle of the quiz), I will post a reference and you will have several minutes to respond with the reference at the beginning, the verse text in the middle, and the reference again at the end. Please also include your version to make it easier for scoring. For example, if I comment with Genesis 1:1, the correct response would be something like this:
Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1 NIV
If you do not include your version in each comment, it makes it more difficult for the volunteers helping to score. Omitting a reference or your version will cost you a point for each occurrence.
You can receive a maximum of 12 points for each type of question. For details on the scoring for "recitations", please see below. For the questions where you post a reference for the verse text given, you will receive four points for the correct book, four points for the correct chapter, and four points for the correct verse number. For example, if you posted 2 John 1:9 instead of 1 John 1:9, you would receive 8 points.
Over half of the questions will be Primary verses and several may be drawn from the Junior verses.
If you would like to help score, please let me know after we finish the quiz by posting a comment with the text "helpscore" in it. Otherwise, it is difficult to keep track of who is helping. If you indicate that you would like to help score, I will have information about how to score and will assign you to a few people. You can then look for their answers on the page (CTRL + F in many browsers allows you to search and find their name and comments) and tabulate them on your computer. When you have a final score for a person, you will please post it in a comment with their name. When all scores are returned, this post will be updated with that information.
If you plan to be participating in the first quiz or have any questions, please indicate that in a comment below (unless you have already done so on the other blog post). I also welcome any suggestions. Hope to see you there! Thanks.
How we score recitations: The maximum score for a recitation is 12 points. Like the Bible Bee, leaving off a reference at the beginning or end of a "recitation" is a 1-point deduction, as is any one word error (one word omission, insertion, or change - like swapping "created" for "made"). You see above the correct response for reciting Genesis 1:1. Here is a 6-point recitation in NIV:
In the beginning He created the earth and heavens. Genesis 1:1
We start with 12 points, then evaluate the recitation: one point is subtracted for forgetting the reference at the beginning, another point is subtracted for using "He" in place of "God", two points are subtracted for switching "heavens" and "earth" (it was two one-word changes) and another point for leaving out "the" (second-to-last word). Additionally, we subtract a point because the response did not include the version. Please note that you cannot count more than 12 errors - i.e., no one ends up with a negative score on a passage. If you want to help score but have questions on how this works, please ask us for clarification.
Update: Thanks to Zachary Baas, Sarah, Phil Walker, AmyV, Hannah Cupcake, Simeon, Christian Alexander, and Rachel Crosswhite for helping with scoring. Below are the point totals. We even had a three-way tie (see the 88 pointers)! You all did great. I was impressed that we had contestants from Primary Timothy Track to Senior National Track and I think almost everywhere in between. I recognize that not all of you had to study some of these verses, but you all did fantastic! Congratualations! May every word that comes from the mouth of God truly be our bread. I want to highlight a quote from C.S. Lewis that was also part of our Sword Study recently:
[T]he Church exists for nothing else but to draw men into Christ, to make them little Christs. If they are not doing that, all the cathedrals, clergy, missions, sermons, even the Bible itself, are simply a waste of time. God became Man for no other purpose. It is even doubtful, you know, whether the whole universe was created for any other purpose.
Lewis, C.S. Mere Christianity. New York: HarperOne, 1980. Print.
May our study of Scripture be diligent and may it lead others to Jesus. If we are keeping it to ourselves, it is tragically a waste of time. But if we are doing it for God and letting the Truth influence every area of our lives so that others are being drawn to Him, it is because He has begun a work in us that He will continue to use for His glory (Phil 1:6), and that is no waste! Keep it up, all!
Josiah - 20 points
Simeon - 28 points
Simeon's sister - 28 points
Lauren Watt - 28 points
Olivia - 36 points
Clara K. - 36 points
BrookeNicole - 60 points
Ranch4Christ - 72 points
Rachel - 74 points
Emma - 88 points
Jamie - 88 points
BibleBeeJunior11 - 88 points
Hannah Cupcake - 89 points
Angela - 96 points
Phil Walker - 102 points
Rachel Crosswhite - 108 points
Sarah - 108 points
ChampionBuilders - 120 points
SavedByGrace - 132 points
Abigail Grace - 139 points
AmyV - 148 points
Christian Alexander - 150 points
Zachary Baas - 156 points
Thanks to Christian Alexander for catching a scoring mistake I made: I was giving 15 points maximum for references. This should be fixed now. If anyone else notices any errors, please let us know and we will work to rectify it as quickly as possible. Thanks.

PLANNING TO BE HERE!!!!! I love the Bible Bee Quizzes. They are SOOOOO much fun. Can you do Week 1 for the first quiz mentioned? That's my best one. LOL :)
What is a Bible Bee quiz? How does it work? Where do you sign up? I am confused. But it sounds interesting and I would like to participate.
*gasp* @Jennifer Carter - Are you in the Bible Bee? If you are just say you are planning to be here and the directions are above. You should definitely participate. It is SOOOOOOO fun. I've done the past 2 and they are very nicely done. :)
Have fun everybody! I won't be able to make the next two quizzes :( I'll miss doing it with you all!
Ok, I will be here! So happy to be able to be on the other side this week. :) What weeks will you be doing, Alex? I'll be sure to study really hard. :P
I plan to be here for whatever ones you have. We don't usually have much going on on Fridays, so I hope to attend. I'm having a little bit of trouble keeping up with the large amount of verses I have to memorize, but I'll do my best to catch up in time for Friday's quiz!
@Christian Alexander - are you the same Christian A. that posts on the OdysseyScoop? Pardon me, if I'm wrong.
Yes, actually. :D :D I was actually thinking about asking you sometime if you comment on the Odyssey Scoop. I recognized the way you talk in some of the commenters.
Not only do I comment there, but I have an Odyssey blog listed in the Odyssey Scoop's "Links Outward" page. My blog is The Voice of Odyssey at http://www.thevoiceofodyssey.blogspot.com.
I plan to be taking material mainly from Week 5 Primary and some Junior. We already did Week 1. :)
Jennifer - A Bible Bee quiz on Memverse is where somebody (the "quiz host") asks questions from the recent Bible Bee study. You can see how we did it last week: http://www.memverse.com/blog/main/July_1_Bible_Bee_quiz?page=1. The quiz host posts questions in the comments section and everyone else uses the comments to answer the question. When the entire quiz is over, volunteers help to score everyone's responses. Let me know of any other questions. Hope to see you there!
Christian Alexander, thats awesome you love Odyssey! I do too, and I love the Official AIO Podcast. :)
I hope to be there!! I had lots of fun last time. Hopefully no church programs will interrupt this one for me. : )
Alex Thanks I see how it works now! However, where is the material to study. I see reference to Junior and Primary and Week 5, etc. Help again I am confused. Sorry!
Jennifer, here is the link to the Primary verses: http://www.biblebee.org/attachments/host/Primary_Verses.pdf
Here is the link to the Junior verses: http://www.biblebee.org/attachments/host/Junior_Verses.pdf
Look for week 5 National Track.
I can't wait!!!! I hope I can make it! This will be my first time I would of done the Bible Bee Quiz, I forgot last time but its on my calander!!!
:)
@Alex: I'm not sure, and, Jennifer, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Jennifer's problem is that she's not in the Bible Bee, and she didn't understand what this was.
@Jennifer: If that's the case, this is a quiz directed toward those in the 2011 National Bible Bee. There are 12 weeks of verses in Primary, Junior, and Senior catergories. That's where all these terms come from.
I wish I could be there for the next two quizzes but I'll be busy for the next two Fridays. Hope you all have a great time doing it. I should be able to make the quizzes after these two.
@Jennifer - Are you doing the Bible Bee? If so what age group are you in?
@Brooke Nicole - What age group are you in? I'm in the Junior division.
I can't wait to see all your scores.
Yes Christian you are right I did not know what Bible Bee was. Now I see. I am actually an adult Christian leader for my church and use Memverse to help me study and memorize Scripture as I feel that a Church leader should be doing. I saw this blog and was not sure what it was. I think that it is a neat idea for today's youth to be hiding God's Word. Our group of churches through youth program have a similar type of thing called Quiz Team. I love to see the enthusiasm that you have. Keep up the good work.
YAY oh YAY!!! Another Bible Bee Quiz!! I have a goal, and it is.......... :)
I will be at the July 8th, and probably at the 15th as well....Lord willing :) I am not sure about the 22nd, because my Mom is expecting and due on the 26th, {{happy dance}} and...well you never know! Maybe she'll go early! :D Anyway, I'll be at the one on the 8th and on the 15th, let you know about the 22nd :)
THANK YOU SO MUCH for these FUNNER THAN FUN Bible Bee quizes! I LOVE them :)
@Rachel C. Boy or Girl???? How many siblings do you have right now???? I'm about to go to a swim meet!
Sounds like fun! Hopefully I'll be able to make this one...far as I know, Friday afternoons look free for the next few weeks=)
Thanks so much for taking the time to quiz us! It definitely helps motivate me to study=)
@Rachel - it is a baby :) yes, we're keeping it a suprise :) I have 4 sibilings, 3 brothers (11, 8 and 6) and a sister (3, 4 next month) I'm the oldest, 13, 14 in 20 days :)
What about you?
I hope to be doing these quizzes that are coming up! Even though I am Timothy Track and will not do very well =)
@Alex Watt - I have a few questions...
1. About posting your version - do I need to put it in every comment if I have it on my name?
2. What verse weeks will you be focusing on, if I may ask?
3. Could you try to pick a few more Timothy Track verses? I've read many comments here on the blog asking the same question from Tim. Track contestants...just wondering :)
Thanks for answering my many questions :)
So long!
Grace - Thanks for letting me know. I hope you are still able to make it. :) I will keep you posted on upcoming quizzes based on the dates you had given earlier...
Bethany - Since Grace has decided she better not plan to host the quiz on the 22nd, I would appreciate if you did that one. Don't worry about the 29th yet. Like Sarah said, you pick verses from the week, so in your case it is Week 7, I think. Thanks.
Rachel Crosswhite - I recognize it is extremely difficult to wade through all these comments, but I did mention that we will be focusing on Week 5. I guess I should mention that in the blog post. :) As far as version, if it is in your name, that is good enough; and I will use all the Timothy Track questions I possibly can from Week 5 for Primary. If I need Junior verses (almost certainly will), I will try to see if I can make those be Timothy Track also. Thanks!
Ashley - You are registered as much as you need to be, however, I just want to make sure it is clear that you do have to be "logged in"/"signed in" to your account when you participate. :) Otherwise it will not allow you to comment.
Thanks everyone and I look forward to "seeing" you Friday!
@Alex and everybody else: I won't be here. I think it would cut down time if there was a program that tested you individually. It wouldn't be as fun, but I think it would be more efficient. What do ya'll think?
@Jamie Yes, I do swim on a swim team. I live in Butler, PA. My swim team's name is Alameda Gators. And by the way we WON THE SWIM MEET!!!!!!!!! I won 2 of my events and we were REALLY close with the other team in the free relay. We won by 2 points!!! But we couldn't throw the coaches in right then because one girl on our team had a HUGE asma attack. The ambulance came, but I don't think she had to go to the hospital. I think the ambulance was just to be safe. I just got back from our fun day!!!! We went down the water slides, jumped off the diving boards, threw the coaches in the pool, and played sharks and minnows!! In sharks and minnows I was like 6th place. And my older sister, Abbi, was 3rd or 4th. AND Abbi didn't really ever get tagged! People said she did so she didn't pick a fight. My younger sister is at Seneca Hills (a summer camp) and my Dad and Abbi our going on a camping trip with some other people. I will get Mom all to myself for about 21 hours!!! Can't wait for the quiz!!!!!!! Matthew, I like it how it is, and you can always go back over the quiz and test yourself! That's what I did with the June test! But I couldn't score my self because I don't know how. : (
Ummmm...my sister wants to do this with me so we will do it together on my account and we are both NASB. :) Her username is Palamino but she'll be JRSC (Her initials) if it's ok. :) I'll just be BBJ11...:) LOL
@Rachel: I like it too. I just isn't the best time conserver and when you think about how much you could study on your verses in that time.... It is almost pure FUN!!! Sounds like you had lots of fun today.
Well, I just got back from sending my Dad and Abbi off on their camping trip! Me and mom alone the rest of the day!!!!!!
@ Alex: I tried to ask this via the Feedback or Help & Support buttons, but neither would let me sign in with my Google Account as I have before, so I'll ask you here:
With Matthew 6:9, when I'm being tested, for some reason, after I write, "This then is how you should pray:", I am made to write the quotation marks before I can write "Our father." I can deal with it, and it's not a big problem, but I just thought I should report it.
Rachel,
That is sooooo cool are team won as well!! We Got to push our coaches in, and one was even HIDDING!!!! We only didn't push one of our coaches because she hurt her leg.
We won by like 60 points!
They were supposed to be really good, but they weren't!
@ BibleBeeJunior11: Coolio! XD Good luck to the both of you! (And everyone else of course :D)
I will be here on All OF THEM!( I hope) I Love the quizes!
Jennifer Carter: to learn more about Bible Bee go to: www.BibleBee.org :) Hope it helps and you should look into it!
Will there be quizzes at any other time?
I am teaching piano lessons right during all the quiz times chosen so far.
I would really like to participate or help out if need be with the scoring for NIV (or KJV since I also have a bible in that translation) :)
Christian - Yes, that has happened several times to me also. I'm going to report an error with the verse. What happens is people sometimes enter verses with two quotation marks with spaces, like this:
" '
When it should be like this:
"'
But it's not a big deal. Maybe in a few days it will be fixed. :) Thanks!
@BBJ11: Are you ODYSSEYLOVER on the Odyssey Scoop? I'm assuming that I'm right, since you just changed your picture to fit that one used over there. :)
Marie - Do you have a time suggestion? Are you thinking a different day, or just a different time? Please give your time zone with your suggested time. Thanks. :) I will see what we can do... At this point, we have already scheduled these quizzes, so unless someone wants to run extra quizzes, it probably won't be for a few weeks...
@Christian Alexander - Yup, I am the same ODYSSEYLOVER on the Odyssey Scoop. I like to have my profile pictures the same. :P It's not that hard - just have to sign into Gravatar and connect the same email you have on here to the photo you want...:) I looooooovvvvvvveeeeee Georgie Henley - that's why she's always my profile...:) oh, and by the way - you're very observant!
If you love Georgie that much, you'd know that her last name is Hensley, not Henley. jk :D I guess I am pretty observant. :D Thank you.
What's funny is that I'd probably be very surprised if I saw a picture of you, because now I always picture you as looking like that actress. ;)
You know what, on second thought, you might be right about her last name. I'll have to look that up. Sorry. :P
EDIT: You were right. Silly me. I guess you are a die-hard fan. :D
@Ashley One of our coaches is really tricky. Nobody took me seriously that we needed to HOLD ON to him. I ended up the only one holding on and he BROKE AWAY!!!!!!!! We have ANOTHER swim meet tonight. Against the #1 team a.k.a. undefeated!!!! Wish me luck. It's at 5. : )
@ Alex: I was wondering if you're okay with us using these comments as sort-of a mini-social-network. That seems to be what the comments are mainly used for except for on quiz days, so I just wanted to make sure you're okay with that. I figure it's probably not so good for Friday when we'll have to be constantly refreshing the page, so if you have a problem, please let us know.
Christian - I have an idea. We are working on a new quiz feature that has a chat function... Maybe we can save some of the discussion for that... It is best when the discussion is relevant to as many people as possible. Thanks for asking.
Naomi - I comment with a question and everyone comments with their answer. Please see the main part of the post for more details. Let me know of any further questions. It will be mostly based on Week 5 Primary verse materials.
@ BibleBeeJunior11: Smae here! XD
I'm on the odyssey scoop too, but haven't checked it recently. Probably because I haven't seen that many and all of the people on there have watched the latest ones and are posting about it, so it's kinda hard to find places to post. Ooh, i wish i had a gravatar account! I think my mom is going to sign me up soon!
By the way, does anyone know how to change your name on memverse? I have seen it before and i can't find it now >_<
Edit: Never mind as you can see.
Audrey, I think you found it, but go to your profile tab, click on account, and you will find a place to change your name. :)
@Sarah's Bible Bee account KJV--Actually, she said in her last sentence that she did find it. See the edited part? :)
SBG, yes, I saw. :) thanks! I actually wrote the last comment before the edited comment published. ;)
YEESS!!! I finally memorized my first four verses today!! It was so cool to see just a little bit of green on my progress chart, even if it's not much. By tomorrow, I'll be on Level 3 because I'll have memorized my first five verses!
Great job, SBG! I remember when I "memorized" my first verses! I was so happy! Keep up the good work!
EDIT: My sister, Olivia, commented saying that she is going to be doing the quiz today. Is there any way that we can have her comment and all her future comments approved? She has 9 verses in her account.
I also, unexpectedly, memorized my first verses today. It's only three, but just like SBG said, it's great to finally see some green on the chart and to see some verses classified as memorized.
I can't wait for the quiz!
I will be here for the quiz today! Finally! LOL And I changed my profile and put NIV there just for the quiz! :) Can't wait to start!
My name is Elizabeth, and I am looking forward to participating in the quiz today. I use KJV and am in the Senior division.
@Christian Alexander - haha that's funny! and yes, I am a die-hard fan of all Narnia actors! in fact, I know all the "pevensie" children middle names except for Skandar Keynes. He's got a zillion names!
oh, and I've found a great website to find narnia buddy icons you can download for free! www.spareoom.net love it!
We are starting in half an hour. Thanks all. See you then! (BTW: Please note that the Recent Comments page does not update as frequently as it used to. You need to be checking this blog post for the latest questions. Thank you.)
Sarah - Just saw your comment about Elizabeth. Her comments should be automatically approved since she has more than 10 verses being learned in her account (it looks like we had it at 8 and moved it to 10... not sure).
I'm planning on being here this time!! --as long as there are no issues! ;) May Satan not prevail and ruin this quiz!!
@ Simeon-- I live on the outskirts of Akron. And you?
@ Alex-- I will be here for the entire quiz, hopefully, but as of now, SavedByGrace/Nicolas, my brother, is at work in the kitchen, so I'm going to attempt to write all of his answers underneath mine like others sometimes do. Hopefully I can accomplish it in an organized fashion! I can't wait till we start!
I did AWFUL at the swim meet meaning: we didn't win. : ( It thunderstormed so we couldn't practice today, so we played sharks and minnows(on land: ) ). I'm gonna be right back for the quiz.........
Thank you all for coming to the quiz. We will begin in 5 minutes! As a reminder, please keep discussion relevant to the quiz and be sure to include your Bible version with your recitations (if it is not in your name). Thanks!
Here for the first time. I (Mom) will be typing what my primary children say. :)
@ BBJ11 (and ZB): Yes, Nicolas is my brother. I believe he's mentioned it before, but he doesn't mention it very much. ;)
The quiz is on!! You will be providing the reference for the first five questions, the text for the middle five, and back to the reference for the last five. Please include the question number in your response.

Question #12
NIV – “This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’ For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
NASB – “Pray, then, in this way: ‘Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. ‘Your kingdom come. Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. [For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.’] For if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions.
ESV – Pray then like this: "Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
KJV – After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
NKJV - In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Olivia: 24
Simeon: 20
Zachary - That is correct.
Sarah - That's OK. Thanks for your help!
I just updated the link I posted to include the correct answers. You will need to refresh the page if you already had it open. Thank you.
Scores for questions 6-10
BibleBeeJunior11- 8
BrookeNicole- 12
Clara K.- 0
Great job everyone and thanks Alex for hosting this week's quiz! :)
Rachel Crosswhite - Wow, thanks! :)
Hannah - Thank you for scoring.
Zachary - Correct.
Did you all see the link I gave to make scoring easier? See the automated (more or less) scoring tool
Thanks for hosting, Alex!
Good to "see" you again, Phil. The "AmyV" here is deceptive. I knew very few on my own. It was a team effort with our family.
Zachary - Yes, there is. If they forgot it at the beginning, you subtract one; if they forgot it at the end, you subtract one. Thus, if it was missing in both places, it would total a two point deduction. Thanks!
Sorry I wasn't able to be here, I forgot about it. I hope to be here next week for the quiz! ^_^
Congrats everyone!
~ Audrey
Sorry, Alex! I meant if they did not type the version! :(
Still need to find Emma's version, though.
Zachary, Emma is NKJV (I'm her sister). Thanks for scoring her!
Thanks for hosting Alex! Do you need any more help scoring? It looks like you've gotten everyone covered...sorry I couldn't help! My mom needed me.
Thanks for scoring me, Simeon!
For Questions 6-10
ChampionBuilders got 36 points,
Angela got 36 points,
and Sarah got 24 points.
Thanks for letting me score!!
Z-man ~ see instructions in original post.
Yes, there is a point deduction for not including version.
Zachary - Perhaps comparing some of Emma's answers to the correct answers will help you figure it out. We do have that they lose a point for forgetting the version.
Great job to all quizzers and everyone working on the Bible Bee this summer.
For my people, Ranch4Christ got a perfect 12 on Q6; on Q7 got an 8 leaving out "of the Lord" and "they"; then passed on the last 3 for a score of 20
Lauren Watt passed on 4 and gave the wrong verse for the other.
Thanks for all your work on this Alex, and all others who are scoring and running quizzes at other times. May God get all the glory as we focus on Him through His Word!!
@ Rachel Crosswhite: I'm pretty certain that it is 12 points for the entire passage, and then you subtract one point for every mistake.
Rachel Crosswhite - Oh, sorry about that. :) 12 points for the passage (one or more verses), less any errors. Thanks.
Thanks everyone for your help. In Eastern time, it is also dinner time, so I have to excuse myself for a bit. :) Thanks!
I had fun in the quiz! Sorry I haven't been able to score anyone! Maybe I will be able to score next quiz!
missed ya, Audrey! oh and btw, tomorrow, you've gotta show me how to do those little symbol things...can't figure it out <3
@ BBJ11 - Alex is eating supper and can't answer (unless you want him to talk with his mouth full ;)). But yes, he won 1st place for the 2010 Natonial Bible Bee - I watched him - he whipped the others!!
Zachary Baas score - 48
Thanks for the quiz!
AND btw @Alex - I am not availble to score next week - SORRY! :( but I will be at the quiz
@ Rachel Crosswhite: Hades is the Greek word translated "Hell" in the King James Version. There is some debate over whether Hades should be translated that way, so the NIV and other versions chose to keep it just as Hades.
That's also why you find the word Sheol a lot in the NKJV. Sheol is a highly debated Hebrew word, so pretty much every time it occured in the Old Testament, the translaters decided not to try to translate it, and they left it as Sheol.
Simeon - Thanks for your help! I really appreciate your willingness. Hope to see you at future quizzes! :)
@Hannah Cupcake you're welcome !
I am so suprised at my score! I didn't think I was going to be that high!!
Question: How did Zachary get 183 points if the total points possible is 180? (There were 15 questions worth 12 points each. 12x15=180. ) Just sayin'. ;D
Christian - Wow, thanks for catching that! I scored the references at 15 points max - my bad. I'll fix the scores in a few minutes...
I was pretty sure he had...:) I wish i could've been at the finals ---at least I made it to Nationals! I LOOOVVVVVVEEEEEE it!
Alex, just so you know, I accidentally scored Olivia and Simeon for questions 1-15, so the score I gave you was the final score. Sorry!
Alex sorry i wont be able to make the next quiz im afraid. the local bee is getting together on the 15th but there is some one that goes and i really like seeing her
but i should make the 22th
@Simeon - the locals all are on the same day, right? August 27th...that's when most of them are, I think. Are you talking about a fun time or actually the Local Bee?
CONGRATULATION EVERYONE! You all did a wonderful job! I missed doing it with you all...looking forward to the 22nd :)
@BibleBeeJunior11 (NASB) - Aw...thanks! I missed doing it :( We went to see some relatives the last two days...that's why would couln't do it. No, I won't be able to do it the 15th either, because we are going to a Scriptoruim on Friday and Saturday. I believe Mr. Walker has talked about it a little. I will miss doing it again! I will be holding the quiz on the 22nd! I can't wait!
@ Alex it doesnt really matter but could you recheck my sisters score I dont think she got 35 she only answered of four one of those she 'passed' on just wondering :^)
@ BibleBeeJunior11 ohhh sorry its just a fun time and it might be on the 14th ill have to find out
Sarah - OK, I didn't remember you confirming the 15th... I apologize if I missed a comment. I'm not sure what to do, because we are working on a new quizzing system which will make it really easy to do quizzes. If you are OK with it, I would like to do the quiz on the 15th. We're not sure if we'll have it done, but we might. I think it would be easier if I did the first one, but after that I think anyone will be able to create a quiz. I wouldn't be surprised if the weekly quizzes are held several times a week to accommodate for different people's schedules, though it would be nice to continue having them Fridays at 4 PM as the biggest quiz of the week... I'm sure we will be giving more information on this soon. Also, I would like to be responsible for this one in case something goes wrong or we don't have the system working yet. Thank you very much, though! I certainly think you will be able to set one up again, perhaps after Bethany on the 22nd... And if you don't want to host for any reason, quizzes should continue because the host won't have to do as much work. :) Thanks.
Simeon - I apologize. What happened is I originally was giving 15 points per correct reference (5 points for each of the three elements of the reference: book, chapter, and verse), and your sister got two correct plus one book (she had missed the chapter/verse). So I gave 35 points (15 per correct reference = 30; then add 5 for getting the right book on one of the others). I put this into Excel without breaking out the separate scores... Then when I "fixed" all the other ones, I forgot to fix hers, because I just saw the total, not the score for each question. It is now updated above. You and her actually tied. :) If you see any other errors, please let me know. Sorry about that. Thanks! :)
Can't wait for next week! And the weeek after that! *So excited* I will try and be there! Cross your fingers that I will XD All have a happy blessed day!
@ BiblebeeJunior11 (NASB): Thanks, I missed you too. I will show you with pleasure ^_^ XD
~Audrey~
P.S. @Alex Watt: Thanks so much Alex for doing these quizes for us! I LOVE them! God Bless You!
Bethany - Yes, I think that should work. If something comes up I will let you know.
Simeon - Haha: I understand. :) My sister knows a lot of verses too. Pretty cool that you tied. Good job to both of you.
@Alex - Thanks! I will be looking forward to the quiz...and not looking forward to missing the next one :( Thanks for letting us do these quizzes on Memverse! They are very helpful!
Alex, thats totally fine! Let me know when you want me to host another, because I am more than happy to! Actually, I really enjoy doing it! :D Btw, is http://lexben.com/Memverse/score-recitations.html your website? Did you write the coding for it? Great job if you did! I really like writing coding, and am actually taking a computer programming course this school year to learn coding for games and such. ;)
Sarah - Thanks for understanding. LexBen.com is the website for a company my brother and I haven't done a lot with. We built websites for a few small businesses but I never put much time into that site, which is kind of funny. :) If we ever do more with it, we will have to come up with a better design I think. The coding for the page you are referring to is mostly not mine. It is a combination of a script I found online for calculating the Levenshtein distance and some work Andy and I have been doing on the new quiz feature. I just thought I should adjust the script so it could be used by people who are helping to score before the new feature comes out, and so I copied it onto that webpage and made a few adjustments. I will take that page down and remove links to it if we get the new feature released by Friday. I hope you enjoy the computer programming course. :)
Yeah Zachary, awesome job!
@BibleBeeJunior11: I'm with you all the way! Oh and by the way, I missed seeing you at church today. It was a bit silent without you XD I hope to see you tonight if your coming to VBS! it's gonna be really fun! Next time you can come over, i'll teach you how to do the little Alt codes I was telling you about. C u later!
*Can't wait for da bible bee quiz next fwiday! XD (Jk [Just kidding] about the da and fwiday)
@Audrey -- We went to see the Duggar Family!!!!!!! We went to FBA and saw them and got a book signed by them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm halfway through it. See you tonight!
@BibleBeeJunior11: Cool! What is the Duggar Family? I heard they sang. Is the book good? That's really cool. :D
@AudreyBibleBeeJunior(NASB)--you really don't know about the Duggars? They are a family with nineteen kids (I think) and another on the way! They have their own TV show on...well, I don't remember. They DO sing when they talk at a conference or something. One or two of them are married, and some are toddlers and small children. It's amazing to see all of them lined up in a row! :)
@SBG: That's so cool! An... I mean BibleBeeJunior11 was really lucky!
@BibleBeeJunior11: What did they sing? I bet your new book is really nice :) Oh and I found your coment that showed a link to Spareoom.com with all those cool avatars. It's really neat :)
Saved by Grace - they have 19 kids but do not have another one one the way yet. :) (or maybe they do now but I haven't heard) Their TV show is on TLC and Discovery. Their oldest son Joshua is married to Anna, and they have 2 children, the baby born in June I believe.
@ Rachel Crosswhite (KJV)-- What is the show called? I don't have cable, but maybe i could find a season of it on this website I like called Netflix if they make seasons. *Crosses fingers they do*
Audrey, they do have their shows on Netflix, because that is where I watch them. It's called "18 kids and counting" and "17 kids and counting". I dont think they have "19 kids and counting" on Netflix yet though.
Oh hey everyone, maybe we could do our own little quiz while we wait for the other two! it would be cool. We could lie only test on previous weeks since the real quiz is on the current week. We know how to score people and everything. I could be the one posting te questions maybe. Of course we have to get Alex's permition first. What does everyone think?
Audery - I don't have TV either but happened to know that. They have the very first episode called "14 children and pregeant again" all the way up to "19 kids and counting" shows on Youtube.com ... (some of them are not not on there) but there are a TON on youtube.
Have fun watchin' :)
Oh by the way...I'd love to have an "extra" Bible Bee quiz...I could possibly help you run it...like you do a question and then I do...that would be FUN!
@ Alex or whoever - I have a suggestion. I was thinking that we could do a different kind of quiz on memverse. (Still for the Bible Bee) Could we do a quiz on 1 Peter? You could make up questions. It would help me a lot. They could be multiple choice questions. But you would run it the same way you would do the verses quiz. Tell me what you think!
Jamie - I think that is a good idea. I'm not sure when we'll do it, but the new quiz feature we are working on will eventually have support for multiple choice questions. When that happens, I think we will try including some 1 Peter questions along with the regular Friday Bible Bee quiz. Thanks for sharing. :)
Jamie, I think having extra quizzes and 1 Peter quizzes are a great idea! It would help me a lot more too. ;)
@Sarah's Bible Bee account KJV & Jamie - we're making a game to help quiz with 1 Peter and Greek words and Verses. My mom came up with the idea!! It's gonna be awesome!
@Audrey - let me know how the seasons are! I haven't seen all of them
@SBG - no, they don't have another one on the way. Baby Josie is not really a baby anymore (she's 1 1/2) but I think it would be a little difficult to have another one with all of Josie's problems..
I made flashcards with all the greek words with their strongs numbers, english words, and pronunciations. It helps a lot! And, I'm working on making a quizlet.com thing with the greek words.
Thanks Sarah! I might learn them...just in case we would need to know them. In our Sword Study it says "Note this number, becasue we'll need it later." Hmm...
Also, what group are in you? I'm a Senior =) Do you have any siblings doing the Bible Bee?
Bethany, I am a first time Senior this year (im almost 15), but have done Bible Bee for 3 years now. Almost all my siblings are competing in the Bible Bee. One is just a Supporting Sibling. I have 2 brothers that are Juniors, 2 sisters that are Primaries, and 1 sister that is 3, and is doing the Supporting Sibling. What about you? I don't think I will memorize the number. They said note the number because apparently in the Junior Sword Study, they have to look the word up in the greek lexicon, and in the Senior, they print it in there for you. Knowing the greek words is a step up for me from last year. :P
@Sarah, I'm a Senior as well...and this is my first year to do it (I'll turn 16 in March). I have 6 other siblings and only 2 of them are doing it with me. My younger sister is a Junior and my younger brother is a Primary. I have two younger sisters who are to young to do; and I have an older sister and an older brother.
Good, I won't memorize the number then. It might be kind of hard too :)
hey every one if you see a guy on here called something like "Miles christium" say hi to him he's my brother :)
Hello I am a new member on memverse
I am a senior in the 2011 national bible bee, and have participated in the 2009 and 2010 national bible bees. I am Simeons brother, even though it is not my real name, you can call me Miles.
Hi Miles!
Welcome to Memverse! I hope you enjoy it. I'm also a Senior and and this is my first year to do the Bible Bee. Have you ever made it to Nationals?
I would LOVE to go to Nationals this year! Like Miles, I've participated in 2009 and 2010, and have never made it to Nationals. I am a Senior this year too. May the Lord's Will be done.
I would SO be excited if I ever got to go to the nationals. That's one of my goals for this year--and I think I'm actually going to do it this time! Memverse is helping A LOT in keeping the verses I learn permanently impressed in my mind. Sadly, I hardly know any of the ones I "memorized" last year because I didn't think to review them. But reveiwing them like this is helping SO much. By God's grace, I believe I might make the top 100 Juniors this year!
Saved By Grace, I know what you mean. My goal this year is to memorize all the verses (never done that), finish my Sword Study (never done that either), and to go to Nationals (haven't done that either!). And this year, I am a Senior, which means more work, but there has only been about 300 Seniors each year. So, that means I have a 1/3 chance to go to Nationals this year. Last year in Junior, I ranked I think, about 421 or something out of about 1,000, so I might have a chance this year! I will be praying that you reach your goal. :)
@SBG and Sarah: This is my first year, so I haven't done all three! I would really like to make it to nationals...that would be so excting! I'll pray for us that we may reach our goal :)
@Sarah: I have a question for you. Are you on the Accountablity Forum? I know a person on there named Sarah and I was wondering if that was you...
Bethany, yup, thats me! I am so happy that Sophie made the forum, because talking to you guys is so encouraging and helpful! Alex is on there too. Actually, a lot of us on the forum are on Memverse! :D
@Miles, Sarah, Bethany, and SBG - even if you don't make it you should go! I made it in 2009 & 2010 and it was sooooooooo awesome!!!!! Incredible to see what people can do with God's word, memorizing it and all!
@Sarah - I didn't get my Sword Study finished last year until AFTER the locals! I am determined to get all of what you said on your post except with me!
I am wondering...this is for anyone to answer if they know.
I probably will enter for the Nationals next year, but am wondering. If I am 14 next year, would I still be Junior if I turn 15 on July 25? or would I be a Senior? Just wondering
also, did anyone figure out the crossword puzzle a few weeks ago in the Sword Study? It was too confusing
I'm REALLY behind in Sword Study. I'm going to be late at today's Bible Bee quiz, really late. @Rachel C. Yes, I did. I could give you some of the answers...............
Rachel, ok, so I am 14, going to be 15 in September. I am a Senior this year, meaning you would be a Senior next year. After a lot of help from my mom, and the help of some people on the Contestant's Accountability Forum, I got it done. It was way too confusing I agree! I really hope they don't have more that are messed up like that.
BBJ11, How was Nationals? I REALLY want to go this year. I think we MIGHT go either way, but I want to PARTICIPATE, ya know? Tell me all about it! :D
Rachel, its ok. I actually am on track with my SS, but you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you!
Alright!!! I can hardly wait!!!
I hope I can make it.
