2013 Sword Study Book

What book do you think Bible Bee will pick for 2013?
Sir Walter (Jimmy)
Hmmmm…. I have been wishing for a long time that the Bible Bee would choose an Old Testament book to study (such as Esther, the Kings, or Ruth), but if they do choose a New Testament book, I am going to guess that it will be in one of the two-book series, like 1 and 2 Corinthians or (this is my my personal guess) 1 and 2 Thessalonians. On the whole, however, I would love for the Bible Bee to choose an Old Testament book to study. :) What do you think?
Sydney (aka The Gopher)
Ummm… Esther is a good book as is Ruth.
Unfortunately, I may not be doing BB next year! cries
But an Old Testament book would be nice to study.
SavedByGrace
Yes, I would enjoy getting to study an OT book instead of an NT book for the Sword Study. But if they are going to choose from the NT, I agree that they will probably choose one of the two-book series.
2 Corinthians 5:17
Why may you not be able to do the Bible Bee this year, if I am ask? :(

I'm thinking Thessolonians…..
Ruth Smith
Last year I guessed 1&2 Timothy and was correct, so I'm guessing 1&2 Thessalonians are next:) good thing you're memorizing them:)
Cow
Well, I have a bunch of guesses on this one :) I honestly don't think they're going to pick an Old Testament book, at least for locals. I can't really think of a book that would be simple and short enough…so I'm thinking that they're going to do something from the NT. My first guess, of course, was 1 John. However, that is a bit long, especially with the new 10-week setup…so I started thinking about 1 & 2 Thessalonians. But that might be too easy to guess. =) So my first guess would probably be both 2 and 3 John for locals. And then my second guess would probably be James or 2 Thessalonians. I was also thinking that they might want to take a break from Paul though, so as not to give people who aren't new an advantage. But then again, they might want to stick to only 4 chapters to fit in with the 10-week setup and go for Philippians. Or they could be super-random and go for Philemon. So basically, I have no idea. :)

All contestants will be provided with a “Sword Study” inductive
study of the designated Bible passage of the year. At the time of
notification of the National Competition Qualifiers, the National
Qualifiers will be assigned an additional passage of the Bible to
study inductively, without an additional Sword Study.
-2013 Competition Rule book
So maybe it's a passage instead of a book!
Margaret Eddy
That means it really could be anything!

The set up this year for locals is realy weid.
I think that 2011 was the best set up for BB.
Mosty the verses.

Found out my family IS doing Bible Bee this year! :D
The NIV controversy, mostly. Also, time and activities.
admin
Interesting! This is a bit different!
Cow
Yeah, I thought they would eventually resort to a passage, but I didn't think they would do it THIS soon. :D this is getting weirder and weirder by the second lol
admin
@Hannah: Are you going to be a senior this year? Just Curious!
Cow
Haha no, still a Junior…so yeah. One more year before it will be almost impossible to make it to the Semis :D everyone thinks I'm 16 or something, though :P
K
Do you think that Bible Bee might do part of a longer book (like Romans or 1 Corinthians) for Locals, and then have us do the rest of the book for Nationals?
Cow
Hmm…maybe. However, then the local contestants would "miss out" on the rest of the book studying. Interesting idea, though. I haven't thought about that :)
SavedByGrace
Or maybe, since they're giving us so few verses, they'll do the entirety of a large book over the summer. But we'll never know until they release the information….
biblebee
That doesn't seem likely because they are making it easier so that more people will do the Bible Bee. So it seems that we will still have a short book.
SavedByGrace
True. :) My guess is 1 Thessalonians for the summer and 2 Thessalonians for the fall.
biblebee
Did you see what they said in the rule book??
It says that we will be assigned an additional passage for nationals. We're not sure if they mean't a passage in place of a book or if they just changed their wording for this rule book.
K
I want them to do Philippians for the summer, because it's four chapters and it would fit perfectly in ten weeks. :)
Matthew Minica
A passage instead of a book? Interesting… Maybe Revelation 2-3! I've wanted to memorize that for a long time.
His Servant
Well, then, memorize it! Why do we have to wait till Bible Bee to do it?
Matthew Minica
'Cause I also have a million other passages I've wanted to memorize for an even longer time! :P
His Servant
I know, I know. Pretty much everything I read, goes on my list to memorize :D Though, at some point I need to finish memorizing all the short epistles. I'm almost finished, but I can't seem to find all the time I need for it…
Cow
I was thinking they would do Philippians…but I have no idea :) we'll have to wait and see. :)
ZachB
one of the Thessalonians?
Cow
Yeah, but if they did, it would probably be 2 Thessalonians, at least for locals. But they also might not want to do that, because that would give an advantage to everyone who competed last year and studied Paul and his works.
admin
IK. That's what I was thinking.
Cow
So basically, we have no idea whatsoever what they're going to pick. =)
2 Corinthians 5:17
Yes we do! It's a book from the Bible! :D :P
biblebee
LOL!
Cow
Nice =D
admin
For the summer at least, but I have a pretty strong feeling that it's going to be a passage for the fall period… I read through the 2013 rulebook and compared it with the 2012 rulebook, and it seems pretty apparent…
I guess we'll see!
K
Do you think it might be a passage from the Old Testament then?
admin
IDK… But i don't think so.
Sir Walter (Jimmy)
I hope so. I have been waiting three years for an Old Testament passage. :)
Cow
That's what I'm thinking, too. I think they might do an Old Testament passage for Nationals, but it's more likely that they would keep it NT, especially because we would have to switch to Hebrew if we were studying the OT.
admin
yeah… plus I think there would be some kind of symmetry between the two passages… not that there can't be between OT and NT but it's a little less apparent.
Cow
Yeah. It would be…interesting if we had to study Hebrew. :)
admin
Sooo. Anybody want to make one more guess on the 2013 locals book? I think I'm going with Philippians… It's a sorta educated guess, but I'm not saying why!
2 Corinthians 5:17
Hey, did you get some inside information at CHC?!?
Anyway, that's the book I'm hoping for :)
Cow
Ok guys, I think I figured it out B-)
Sir Walter (Jimmy)
I think I would agree with you, Jordan. I heard from a few individuals that Philippians is probably the book, but once again we can never be sure. :)
Cow
But why would it be Philippians?
Cow
I mean, is there any real reason to believe that it would be Philippians, besides the fact that it has four chapters?
Sir Walter (Jimmy)
Philippians certainly is simple (with appropriate depth for contestants). It is of good length and has great passages that are perfect for cards. It seems right (although I also think 1 Thessalonians would be a great choice). :)
