Hmmmm…. I have been wishing for a long time that the Bible Bee would choose an Old Testament book to study (such as Esther, the Kings, or Ruth), but if they do choose a New Testament book, I am going to guess that it will be in one of the two-book series, like 1 and 2 Corinthians or (this is my my personal guess) 1 and 2 Thessalonians. On the whole, however, I would love for the Bible Bee to choose an Old Testament book to study. :) What do you think?

Yes, I would enjoy getting to study an OT book instead of an NT book for the Sword Study. But if they are going to choose from the NT, I agree that they will probably choose one of the two-book series.

Last year I guessed 1&2 Timothy and was correct, so I'm guessing 1&2 Thessalonians are next:) good thing you're memorizing them:)

Well, I have a bunch of guesses on this one :) I honestly don't think they're going to pick an Old Testament book, at least for locals. I can't really think of a book that would be simple and short enough…so I'm thinking that they're going to do something from the NT. My first guess, of course, was 1 John. However, that is a bit long, especially with the new 10-week setup…so I started thinking about 1 & 2 Thessalonians. But that might be too easy to guess. =) So my first guess would probably be both 2 and 3 John for locals. And then my second guess would probably be James or 2 Thessalonians. I was also thinking that they might want to take a break from Paul though, so as not to give people who aren't new an advantage. But then again, they might want to stick to only 4 chapters to fit in with the 10-week setup and go for Philippians. Or they could be super-random and go for Philemon. So basically, I have no idea. :)

All contestants will be provided with a “Sword Study” inductive
study of the designated Bible passage of the year. At the time of
notification of the National Competition Qualifiers, the National
Qualifiers will be assigned an additional passage of the Bible to
study inductively, without an additional Sword Study.

So maybe it's a passage instead of a book!

The set up this year for locals is realy weid.
I think that 2011 was the best set up for BB.
Mosty the verses.

Yeah, I thought they would eventually resort to a passage, but I didn't think they would do it THIS soon. :D this is getting weirder and weirder by the second lol

Haha no, still a Junior…so yeah. One more year before it will be almost impossible to make it to the Semis :D everyone thinks I'm 16 or something, though :P

Do you think that Bible Bee might do part of a longer book (like Romans or 1 Corinthians) for Locals, and then have us do the rest of the book for Nationals?

Hmm…maybe. However, then the local contestants would "miss out" on the rest of the book studying. Interesting idea, though. I haven't thought about that :)

Or maybe, since they're giving us so few verses, they'll do the entirety of a large book over the summer. But we'll never know until they release the information….

That doesn't seem likely because they are making it easier so that more people will do the Bible Bee. So it seems that we will still have a short book.

Did you see what they said in the rule book??

It says that we will be assigned an additional passage for nationals. We're not sure if they mean't a passage in place of a book or if they just changed their wording for this rule book.

I want them to do Philippians for the summer, because it's four chapters and it would fit perfectly in ten weeks. :)

I know, I know. Pretty much everything I read, goes on my list to memorize :D Though, at some point I need to finish memorizing all the short epistles. I'm almost finished, but I can't seem to find all the time I need for it…

I was thinking they would do Philippians…but I have no idea :) we'll have to wait and see. :)

Yeah, but if they did, it would probably be 2 Thessalonians, at least for locals. But they also might not want to do that, because that would give an advantage to everyone who competed last year and studied Paul and his works.

For the summer at least, but I have a pretty strong feeling that it's going to be a passage for the fall period… I read through the 2013 rulebook and compared it with the 2012 rulebook, and it seems pretty apparent…

I guess we'll see!

That's what I'm thinking, too. I think they might do an Old Testament passage for Nationals, but it's more likely that they would keep it NT, especially because we would have to switch to Hebrew if we were studying the OT.

yeah… plus I think there would be some kind of symmetry between the two passages… not that there can't be between OT and NT but it's a little less apparent.

Sooo. Anybody want to make one more guess on the 2013 locals book? I think I'm going with Philippians… It's a sorta educated guess, but I'm not saying why!

Sir Walter (Jimmy)

I think I would agree with you, Jordan. I heard from a few individuals that Philippians is probably the book, but once again we can never be sure. :)

D7dc827cf5772694df73e423779f0a25?s=128&d=mm

I mean, is there any real reason to believe that it would be Philippians, besides the fact that it has four chapters?

9a84cdcb9baaf33d3e7a7c012b3b2456?s=128&d=mm

Sir Walter (Jimmy)

Philippians certainly is simple (with appropriate depth for contestants). It is of good length and has great passages that are perfect for cards. It seems right (although I also think 1 Thessalonians would be a great choice). :)
