Hi! I know I've seen you on the Bible quizzes before. :) This was your first year of Bible Bee, right?
Yes, first year! My birthday is October 4th so I made it by one month. xD I actually thought I was a junior right before bible bee started and then I found out the cut off date.
Keirstin
Bye! I'll talk to you all later!
Adios Amiga! xD
Happy Holly
Flying is fun! (Sometimes.) San Antonio is a nice place to vacation! ;) :P But I'm sure you're glad to have made #1 in Juniors! What did your Mom say when she saw your ranking?
Everett C.
Great! How old are you? I'm nearly, almost, so close, near to, 15. xD just barely as a senior! ;)14. Almost 15. It's more fun to say your older! Jk lol xD What's assembly? Just wondering! Yes, that would be so amazing if he did make it and was able to go with his sister who qualified! He also is almost 12 so that makes him the youngest in his age group! That's awesome! That's so great how well you did! XD I bet your family was so happy for you! I know I am! That takes a lot of hard work! Great job! xD
There's a few assembly centers throughout the USA. One happens to be quite close to where I live. It's where volunteers check the shoe boxes that people pack, tape them, put them in bins, and ship them. Last year my friend had the honor of checking the last box in front of everyone!
Thank you again! It was kinda fun to be first since my mom doesn't like some of the study methods I use. Now I have the authority to prove her wrong jk :P

A few days ago we got back from a business trip and had landed in our home city about midnight and it was about 2 am by the time we all got to bed! So happy to be able to sleep! Yes, flying is fun! (Sometimes) xD

"Good job! Who's number 2?" LOL! She was kinda expecting it since she saw my score earlier:)

Okay, when you said assembly, I thought you meant something about the bee and I was all, "Wha?" xD hehe
That's awesome about your friend!
Lol! I did my studying on my own because none of my family were doing the bible bee. I had to figure out things on my own! But next year, they all are doing it! My six year old brother got excited when he saw me, and his little buddy recite verses at the local get together and he's so excited! Now just to get the other 5 convinced! Jk xD

Sorry if I'm taking a while to reply! I'm a horrible typer and I'm typing as fast as I can! I'm up for as long as any one else is on. What time is it where you are? It's 10:55 here.
Everett C.
Haha! It's funner when you have someone to do it with, and you can share notes and stuff. Maybe your family will set the record for the most National qualifiers! :P
Happy Holly
Hahaha! That makes sense! So… do you mind if I ask you studying for Nationals tips? :)

I'm in Southern CA, so it's 9:55 here. Where do you live?
Happy Holly
Cool!
Happy Holly
Wow, 10:55! :) I'm on the same time as Everett.
Everett C.

I've gotten that a few times :P I think I wrote out like three or four pages on the subject, but I can't find them. I'll post my thoughts here in a sec.

I'm an Idahoan! XD and no, we don't eat that many potatoes…. xP
Happy Holly
You're from Idaho? Neat! My Grandpa moved up there recently, but we haven't gotten a chance to visit him.

He took the time and wrote them out for me awhile ago. Mabe if I look real hard I can find them again, but that is unlikely, since they're buried under a couple 100 posts and what not….. Thanks so much Everett! That is so sweet of you to post these! Thanks! ;)

What part? I live in a little town called Star, (yep, Star, a really neat name for a place to live!) just outside of Boise.
Everett C.
I know some people who are moving/already moved to Idaho. I love potatoes!

Cool! You don't happen to know by chance the ———– family from there, do ya? I'll edit this in a moment, but I thought I'd ask. They've been doing the bee since it started and their daughter qualified last year as a junior.
Happy Holly
Um.. Weiser. I believe that's how you spell it! You can correct me if I'm wrong.
Happy Holly
I'm sure you have! :D Thanks so much!
Keirstin

I think that's how it's spelled. So crazy! We went to a drive up to Weiser today after church just for fun! It's about 2 hours or so from our house! So crazy funny!

First name? Maybe. I know a lot of people from Bible Bee Nationals ;)
Keirstin
Elizabeth. She has blondish brown hair and blue eyes. She's my best friend!
Happy Holly
Wow, how funny!
Happy Holly
Well, I'm heading to bed as it is rather late now and I get up early. Nice talking with you both!

I recognize that name :) Didn't meet her at Nationals but I saw her on the qualifiers list. She actually might know who I am if she watched some of the rounds at Nationals xD You should ask her :)
Everett C.
I'm still writing the tips. I'll post them here and email you some more.
Keirstin
Okay. I will! It's neat! I guess after you start doing this awhile, you start getting to know every one! xD I only know a couple families so far! Looking forward to meeting more in the future! ;)
Everett C.
Okay, here's the main ones. I can email you a lot more if you want.

Learn the pre-released verses. They've released about 1/3 of the passages for Nationals which you can find on the Bible Bee website. From now to August 21st, you should aim to memorize and perfect all of them. Most are from John 1-6, so you'll be familiar with a lot and it shouldn't be too hard to memorize the rest. Also, if you have time, I recommend looking up the context of each passage. Like what took place right before the passage, who was speaking, what happened after, ect. You may or may not see context questions on the test, but it's a good thing to study and helps you understand the passage itself better. When you memorize the 2/3 that haven't been released, first make a schedule and plan it so that you finish all the verses a few weeks before Nationals. You need some time to review and perfect all of them.
-
Find cross-references from the memory passages. If you take a look at the pre-released verses, you'll see that many of them relate to something in John 1-6. I'm guessing that many of the 2/3 not released will be cross-references as well. Try to find as many cross-references as you can from the memory passages. I find it helpful to write a little note on the verse card summarizing what the passage cross-references to; that way you can see it every time you review the verse. Don't neglect studying other cross-references though. Last year I just focused on the memory passages and paid the price for it by losing at least 30 points on the test xP

It's kinda hard to give tips without knowing what the study passage will be, but some general advice is to do an overview of everything, then learn the main themes of each chapter, and finally get into the real details. So you should do something like this: Read the study passage each day, learn the historical background, find the main themes of each chapter, research important things/people, cross-reference some main themes/stories/words, learn a few Greek/Hebrew words for each chapter, read a commentary.
Everett C.
Okay, yeah, you do get to know a lot more people the longer you do the Bible Bee.
EDIT: I edited the last name out.
Keirstin
Thanks Everett! These will be helpful to me as well even though I didn't qualify! I've been trying to get myself in the habit of memorizing since I never really did much till this last January when I decided I wanted to have more of God's word in my heart! I want be prepared for next year so I'm able to do it a little easier as well. I'll be praying for you two and every one else who is doing the bee! ;)
Keirstin
Thanks! ;)
Everett C.
You're welcome! Those are excellent goals you have. Thanks for praying :) I must get going as well. It was nice talking with you! See you around later :)

Wow, thank you so much! This will be incredibly helpful! You're right. The pre-release verses won't be too hard as I know or at least am familiar with most of them. Sure, you can email me more! I'll take all the help and tips I can get! :P You have my email right? It should be in the list for all the practice test writing emails. :)
Happy Holly
Aww… thank you for praying! Keep up the memorizing! :)
Everett C.
Yes, I know it's somewhere in there. :)

Thanks for sharing these tips! Would you mind emailing us any others you might have?
Everett C.
Sure, will do soon!

The Nats qualifier list is down now. :P They're probably fixing the problem.
ZachB
Hopefully!
Happy Holly
What was the problem?
ZachB
They weren't listing the national qualifiers who didn't have a host.
Happy Holly
Okay, that makes sense. I was wondering about that. :)
ZachB
Yea. I'm hoping that's what they're doing while they have it closed.
Happy Holly
What happens when you try to get on the page?
ZachB
When you go to the page no national contestants show up.
