I had a difficult time with Psalm 25 today. It felt a lot like the four Psalm 119 passages we had to memorize last year. I did get it down eventually, but it took a lot of practice.

And who else feels awkward when they say Galatians 5:12? >_>

Whoa, what version do you use again? In KJV it's not too bad, but I looked it up in some of the other versions and yeah. :-/

Yeah… I use ESV. KJV and NKJV have a different take on the wording, but NIV, NASB, and most of the other modern ones have the more disturbing phrase…

I'm memorizing them in the order that they were given to us. I didn't want to take the time to order them chronologically or anything like that. =P

I'm not going in any particular order. I just look through the remaining verses each time I need a new passage and choose one that looks hard. :) I'm trying to have a long passage going at the same time I memorize the short ones. It's easier for me to memorize a long one over a few days.

Hmm, I'm mostly memorizing them randomly, but I'm memorizing all the Genesis, Exodus and John verses in chronological order, to see if that helps me not get them confused so much… we shall see.

I am memorizing them semi-randomly. I am doing some one carders, than one or two two carders, than a three carder, than back to a lot of one carders.

I don't have two four carders…in Juniors, at least :) just a bunch of threes, and then one five :)

I think she just means—or I just mean, lol—that a "six carder," for instance, is a passage that's split up into six cards because it's so big. Hopefully none of those exist :)

How many of you have memorized at least 2 four carders?
In seniors, there is only one four "carder". I'm basically memorizing them in the order they gave them to us, especially because they put all the long passages at the beginning. Hopefully, by the time I'm done with all of them, the short ones will seem really easy! :)

Was that unclear in some way? :P I'm memorizing them in just the way they were sent. From card 1 to card 234. ;)

I looked up Galatians 5:12 in ESV, and whoa, you're right. I'm glad KJV isn't quite as graphic.

Who else feels a bit awkward also quoting the last part of Romans 1:16-32?

0aeb4024e469ca3f8a6d5da4e10a09b8?s=128&d=mm

Christian Alexander

I don't feel nearly as awkward with that one, for some reason. Probably because I know it pretty well already, and I've heard it quoted in many places. But with Galatians 5:12, I was reading the cards as I was preparing to memorize them, and I was just like, "Whoa!" It just caught me by surprise, and I was wondering for a while why exactly it said that. I guess, if that's the most accurate translation, it may have been Paul's way of saying, "Well, if they're so big on circumcision, why don't they just go all the way with it and get rid of the whole thing?" But I digress…

Anyway. I'd be much more comfortable saying Romans 1:16-32 in front of a large audience than Galatians 5:1-18. Let's just put it that way. =P

Hi Everyone! I was just curious, if you all find it easier to memorize the passages, or keep them reviewed? For the first couple passages, I'm really good at reviewing them, but then after a while it's easy to not review as much, to get more memorizing done. Anyone else have that problem? ;)

Christian and Matthew – Uhh….awkward on both, I would say :

Well, if I wasn't switching to ESV this year, I might know more, but seeing as I have to re-learn everything, I only have as many down as I've done so far chronologically. So I'm done with 89 right now.

I have got 116 verses down so far.

@Sarah Eddy: I have never tried putting my head under water and saying that. Does it help understanding the verse, or is it just interesting?

That's great Sarah, Christian and Daniel!

Sarah – Wow. You're already working on the Lamentations passage? I've got to admit, I'm pretty nervous about that one, in the sense that I've always had such trouble memorizing out of Lamentations!! It's the Lamentations and Acts 13 one that I'm nervous about…. :

One of the passages I have memorized so far is the Lamentations passage. Though it does look intimidating at first. Once you have a firm grip on it, it can be very fun to say. :) That is a great part of memorizing the Bible. Even though it looks hard at first, you know that you are memorizing God's word and once you have it down, it is even more enjoyable to recite, even though it is in Lamentations. :)

Sarah and I thought to ourselves: "What would the Bible Bee Swordstudy writers do with this?"
The answer was obvious.
Make it into an "Apply!" section.
All the Bible Bee contestants should meet at the water park at Nationals and try it together.

Why not? It might be fun for everyone to see hundreds of kids and teenagers at the same time dunk their heads in the water and see bubbles coming up. :)

Exactly what we thought. We might worry the lifeguards a little, but probably none of us would ever forget that particular phrase of that passage for the rest of our lives!

Though, of course, water would have to be flowing over our heads, not just sitting there. Maybe the wave pool would work once the waves start. :)

Not very far. :P I've read through most of them and found some I've memorized from other BB years. Yay! :P

As I looked over the passages I thought "those who competed at Nats last year will have an advantage."

There are a few passages that we memorized for Nationals. This surprised me…it seems like usually they don't do the same ones two years in a row? And only 59 verses this year! that's two whole verses less than last year. :P

Has anyone else memorized Jonah before? I memorized it last spring while I was waiting for BB to start up, and now I'm surprised at how much of it I remember. Narrative passages seem to come back quickly.

I've just read through them once- we don't have our box yet. But I know about half of them, and I started memorizing Jonah today. Jared got a head start- he started memorizing Jonah about a month ago.
