I got 5th place! I was really surprised, though, at how many perfect oral scores there were. Maybe because they increased the amount of verses?

God's Maiden of Virtue

I placed 59th in Juniors! Jumping 31 places from Locals!!
Shocked, but happy! :) I love how God always places me just where He wants me - and never gives me what I hope or expect. It reminds me each time (over and over again) how He is in control, not me.
Though I must add, I thought I did terrible in orals (because of lack of review), but didn't do quite as bad as expected (still pretty bad though ;-).

I placed 87th. Humph. Blame it on orals.
Although my written test was pretty bad as well, which is surprising, but I theorize a few reasons:

  1. I did it WAY too fast. You’re just not supposed to have 20 minutes left after Q200 on that test.
  2. I didn’t know several of the questions covering the memory passages (many of which I hadn’t memorized).
  3. My brain was worn out.
  4. The test was not what I expected it to be. Where were all those Greek words I learned?

Even if I sound like I’m upset, I’m not. :) I did place 15th at locals, after all.

I did that last year. I think I my score for the oral round last year was somewhere in the sixties. I had somehow missed the memo about there being a lot of people reciting in the same room. I just held my name tag and stumbled and stuttered through a couple passages.
This year I got about a of 193 for orals. I could have gotten a lot better score considering what passages they gave us, but I don't do very well under pressure.

That is amazing.

For Nationals this year, I finished with about ten extra minutes, but for locals I had to fill in the last 15 or so with "B"!

Now I know what to work on next year! :-P Memory verses… If I had gotten a perfect oral score, I would have had a much better chance of making it to Finals. Oh, and then I wouldn't mess up in Semi's either. :-P :-)
Edit: I just saw that my total score at Locals was exactly the same as my total score at Nationals! :-)

Oh, OK. Hmm. Did you do a lot of Greek words? I did that, and I don't think it helped. Literally, I had over 300 Greek words that I studied from Ephesians. :-P I think questions from the memory verses were important this year. Also, I try to memorize the study book, and just really know what the content is, and I think that helps a lot. :-) I guess that's the best I can do for advice right now. I pretty much just followed the pattern of the Sword Study for locals.

I probably did it WAY too fast as well. I had 10 minutes left over…though I did slow down a LOT from locals!

Mommy's Helper

I had… I think, about 10 minutes left.
I placed 49 after the preliminary rounds, I got 60 on my Orals :( and 396 on my written. :(

Written wasn't too bad, but I completely bonked out in Orals. :P At least I know what to work on for next year!

Anyone who finished all the Orals verses- would you remember what the last two passages were?

His Servant

I would guess it was probably closer to the end, but that's a total guess. I don't remember much except how bad I did, after I walk out of that little room =

Haha, I know right? It seems most contestants flubbed somehow. Only the semi-finalists got perfect scores or otherwise close…

Just a quick thought for my fellow National contestants :)

Would you prefer fewer verses in the fall, and more in the summer…or all the verses at the beginning of the season, as it used to be? Those of us who are homeschooled can flex our schedules, but others may not be able to. Do you think SKF should consider changing the verse amount? If so, please express your views in the upcoming Bible Bee survey this Tuesday. It could be a real favor to some of us.
Thank you!
