Hey Matthew-- I don't think my name is on the national qualifiers list (I made it)! :)

Interesting. Your contestant ID is 001316, correct? Did you get a email from headquarters?

The top 124 contestants are now on the Senior page. Do you have any idea why they did that??

Anyway, CONGRATULATIONS! I'll put you on the list! :D

Yes, that's my ID #. I got 120th in juniors, so I made it…right?? (and I'm on the National Qualifiers page). :)

@His Servant: Yes, I am quite excited – it was a huge surprise to me! And congratulations on qualifying yourself!!!!!! :D I am so excited that we both qualified!! Especially since we were telling each other on the phone that we didn't think we would…..:)

@Leah: Congratulations, Leah!!!!!!! I am so glad you qualified (PTL!!)!! It's weird that they moved the amount of qualifiers up – I'm very glad they did though! :D

Sorry, I meant to say, "Hey Matthew–I don't think my name is on the Memverse national qualifiers list you made (I made it)! :)"

I made it #17 in Primaries! I'm soooo grateful it was during prayer meeting at church I found out! Or else…. I'd do what any 9-year old girl would do! Can you guess what?
@ Rosie: Tell Nicholas, Christian, and Titus congratulations! Congrats to you, too! I'm glad that Titus just "slipped in"! He was 120, right?

:)!!!! I will also try to study Ephesians :)! Maybe you should study half of the Primary verses….I might do that :)! I am just still tired from BB though :(!!!!!!

Wow. Christian and Nicolas must really be studying hard, because they haven't even come on to tell us that they made it! :)

Yes, you did make it! :D Sorry about that! I misunderstood you. I didn't see you on the qualifiers list, but I was thinking you had a different last name. I think you emailed me once, and the name that I took to be your last name must be your middle name. Correct? :)

I noticed that Ashley McMahen was on the Junior list, so maybe they're recognizing the administration's kids that have scored where they could have qualified?

As far as I know, Dani, Ashley and all other kids in her Limited Eligibility category are able to compete at Nationals, but not in the Semi-Final or Final Challenge Rounds.

Matthew Minica

This is strange. On the Junior qualifier page, Ashley McMahan has been replaced with "Abigail McMahan". Furthermore, I can't find their city in the top 120. Also, I searched for her contestant ID and it said she was place #422. @Ashley, if you see this, can you please tell us what is going on??

I have a question for National Qualifiers: How do you plan to keep track of all your hundreds of verses? With only 61 verses during the summer, it was easier, but with 500+ now for the youngest age group, it's going to be quite a job.

In answer to my own question, last year, Memverse was integral in keeping all my verses memorized; however, since I was not quizzing orally as much, I found that I was not very used to saying verses the speed I needed to, which contributed to my low score at Nationals last year. I have a box that I keep my verses in, and this year, I am going to be using that system more. There are ten sections (I'm using address box dividers :P), labeled with "Daily", "Even", "Odd", and the seven days of the week. I put my 61 verses from the summer into the weekly portion and quiz each section on the appropriate day. For the rest of my verses, I put passages that I have learned into the "Daily" and quiz them every day until I manage to get them perfect, at which point I put a star beside the reference at the top. They can then be moved into the "Even" or "Odd", which are for the day of the month being either even or odd. For every time I quiz them perfectly in the "Even" or "Odd", I put a tally mark on the card (if I mess up, I erase the tally marks). Once there are three tally marks, I can move the card into the weekly sections.

Well, I have a rather informal way of keeping track of my verses; once I memorize a passage, I go back to the beginning of the pile of verses and review every single passage up until the one I just memorized. By the time I get too far into the pile to do this every time, I have the first few passages down very well, and I can go on to only reviewing the ones that I don't have down perfectly. I don't have a perfectly set way of carrying out this system, but it tends to work very well for me. :)

Matthew Minica

Okay. How many verses have you done so far? I'm just about up to the 100 verse mark. That of course includes verses I already knew. :) Also, how many verses did you already know? I'm surprised at how few of them I already knew this year - 10 percent at most. It had been much more in previous years. I think that Headquarters chose a lot of Old Testament verses (particularly Genesis and Exodus) for that reason.

Ack. I'm only at 28 as of now. But I'm planning on memorizing at a much faster rate in coming days, so don't worry… :)

As for the number of verses I already had memorized, there were actually… none. As you may know, I just this year switched from memorizing in the NIV to the ESV, so I am having to rememorize a good number of the verses this year. If I were still memorizing in NIV, there would be quite a few that I already knew. :P

Matthew Minica

That's not too bad! Are you going in the order they were in in the document?

Oh yes, I remember that. :) Well, at least you are familiar with them. Then again that might not be so good to already have been familiar with them in a different version.

93fcb35bede1ac128cb83b71e8060885?s=128&d=mm

SavedByGrace

Yes, I'm going in the order presented in the document. It's a little weird that the passages are in no apparent order, but I'm just going to go along with how they've given it to me. :)

Yes, I'm not sure whether to be glad that I'm familiar with the passages, or dismayed that I have already memorized them word-for-word in one version, and will have to redo all of my memorizing in a different version. :P

61754db001e2e2ef52b2b9212cdda1ec?s=128&d=mm

Matthew Minica

I've never actually gone in the order I was supposed to with my verses. It just seems easier and less stressful for me to be able to choose what comes next.

Yeah, last year I didn't recite my verses orally like at all, so I think I got like 196 or something in orals (and that was a lot better than I expected :P)

So, I'm kind of experimenting this year with the methods you all have been talking about… I'm sort of doing what your doing (but not nearly so organized). I have my summer passages in a once a week pile, and then the verses for Nationals that I can recite perfectly in a pile to review every other day (which I'll move to once a week eventually) and then the verses that I don't have down perfectly yet in an every day pile. Also, the verses I memorized that day, are in their own pile, and I'm reciting them several times a day, and then put them in the every day pile the next day.

That's one of the ways I do it too! :) I also do it with three times a day piles and medal piles :)

I just found out that they invited the 121st ranking Primary to Nationals as well. Hmm…
