Who here likes to draw, and what is your favorite sort of thing to draw? I like to draw animals, especially mice and horses and their relations (zebras, donkeys, unicorns, pegasus, etc.) and people, although I'm not all that good at drawing them yet.

I would like to draw well, but, by experience, I have found that I am rather terrible at it, and practice isn't helping much. But I guess I could just practice more… :)

I LOVE to draw! I usually draw people, warriors and occasionally superheroes, but I'm working on getting good at animal.s What drawing books do you recommend? And what style do you draw in? Mine is sort of a mash of both Western and Manga, so it's a bit unique.

I definitely recommend Kaaren Poole's drawing books.
I like to draw cartoons and cartoony-realistic, if you know what I mean. Kinda' my own style. I also like to draw from photographs of animals.

I love to draw, too, Abi–it is one of my favorite things to do! I generally enjoy "nature" subjects: trees, flowers, animals…. I remember in school, wondering how anyone could draw a horse (or any of its relatives) nicely. :) They were always a challenge to me!

As I was thinking about your question, though, I realized that one of my most difficult subjects–people–has become one of my most enjoyed. Just this year, the Lord has pointed out so many tips that have helped me improve. It makes it fun. I believe He delights in our prayers to honor him–even through drawing!

As a child or teen, I never would have dreamed that drawing would become a significant part of my ministry one day, but it has. God gives us our gifts, and He wants to use them to glorify Himself. It is awesome to be a part of that!

I have a college certificate in graphic design so I draw all the time! Recently I fell in love with ink and studio art markers; I can get some amazing results with them and fast.

I like graphic designing, too, but the only program I have for doing it is Microsoft Word. :-( But it works well enough; I make my avatars with it. (I have to use the Paint program as well, though, but that's only for turning the avatars from documents into pictures.)
I just take my main picture, put it into a Word document, crop it so it's a square, add WordArt where I want it, then group the items together, and voila! I have my picture. Then I copy it from the document, paste it into a Paint file, and save it.

I used to trace all the time (like, 2-3 years ago), but I've been trying to improve my skills in drawing, so tracing seems more like cheating to me in a way…..:)

It's fun to trace! :D Especially if you're using a thicker paper, like computer paper, and people think you're drawing it for real! :D

LOL! Not exactly, but I have been tracing something and someone asked if I was really drawing it! :D I told them I was tracing though ;-)

I think it's really fun too! I don't use tracing or computer paper though. I use a special paper called vellum.

I trace occasionally when I'm painting from a photo and want to make sure I'm putting everything in the right spot. I put reference points on my canvas by putting the photo/picture under it on our tracing machine.

I don't think it's possible, unfortunately, to do that, but we can give links to them, I think… (But if you want to know how to do that, don't ask me! ;P)

How do you do that??? LOL
Oh, well. Someone should figure it out and tell us. Right now all I can do is display my graphic designing on my avatars. :-)
Or, hey! We could ask an administrator if they could make it possible for us to post pictures, so long as it's under a certain size limit!

Plate armor, especially pauldrons, gauntlets, sabatons, greaves, and helmets. I can draw chain mail okayish, but not really-really-really well. I don't need to be able to draw stunningly realistically, though. Just enough to pass on a half-cartoon character.

I don't know how to draw armor. I like to draw people. Especially girls. :) I'm horrible at drawing animals.

I like to draw, but none of my drawings are very good. I can draw animals fairly well, but I couldn't draw a person (other than a stick person, at least) if it would save my life. I always make one hand three times the size of the other or do something goofy like that. My favorite subjects are probably rabbits and flowers.

Why don't you just draw the head? I usually draw the profile of someone. Then you don't see both hands and you can't make one three times to size of the other. :D

I draw the Disney characters. The animals only, pretty much. The people are SO hard! Especially hands; that's my weak spot! No offense to anyone who doesn't like Disney.

Has anyone heard of the book "Drawing on the Right Side of your Brain"?
I'm working through it right now. The concept is really neat, but hard to say….basically it helps you shift over to 'R-mode', which draws things as it sees them, as opposed to 'L-mode', which has a symbol for everything. (Like there's an eye symbol, a chair symbol. You draw the same thing every time you draw something.)
Hope I made sense….. :)

gasp… Recently I've actually begun to do some drawing… blueprinting, actually… and it's really not that hard. In fact, I'm doing pretty well at it. Who would've thought?? :P
