Mommy's Helper

I recently started going through a book called Draw Real People and it is AWESOME!! Just a few days of reading and practicing the tips and already it has helped me get SO MUCH BETTER! Right now I'm working on a drawing of George Washington – I'll post a picture when I'm done (if you want me to)

Lee Hammond. Let me see if I can put up a picture of my finished drawing… (actually it's not George Washington; I finished another one)

Thanks! I've also completed the George Washington drawing and two others… but I think that one is still the best. (or maybe the George Washington one…)

:( you can buy it online but of course that costs money….

I can draw people, (all except the mouth…) they generally turn out pretty well. I can also draw horses. But I go through drawing spurts. Meaning I draw and then I go weeks or months without ever drawing anything. I also have a really nice desk that I can draw on and erase and I have a picture of a professor with a white board that's been on there since… I don't know when… a long time ago. I have traced many things including horses, cats, dogs, Legolas, Gimli, Aragorn, and Gandalf, and much more.

Y'all should NOT have let this topic drop. ;P

I've been into drawing quite a bit lately and I'm absolutely loving it; thanks to Rachel! xD

Aww, you're welcome! XD <3 I'm so glad you're enjoying it, though!
I'm so happy to be home and just hanging out, going Christmas shopping, writing letters, and doing nice, comfortable things. I hope I can do some drawing/hand lettering soon. After I'm caught up on letters and other various correspondences. :)

Yeah, it's nice to be home, even though that means that Nats is over. x( But "There's no place like home." :) I need to do some letter writing too. And we're starting school next week. But I'm still going to make sure to make time for drawing. xD

My, but it's quiet in here! How about we wake this thread up.
I just finished reading through LOTR again, and as I was going through it I realized that the appearances of some characters in the movies were rather different from their descriptions in the book. So I redid some of them, and did a couple others just for fun. :-)

So I just rediscovered computer art after not seriously attempting it for over a year. I tried making a couple of "comic book pages" from the Silmarillion which probably won't make sense if you haven't read the book, but whatever. shrugs

Computer art takes way longer than drawing by hand, but it looks much cleaner when it's finished (in my opinion, anyway).

…I'm going to end up monopolizing this thread if nobody else is willing to post stuff. :-P Please, really, I love seeing other people's artwork!! {:-(

Feanor challenging Fingolfin ("get thee gone and take thy due place" and etc.)

The moment when Finrod begins to lose the contest against Sauron (lyrics from…um…"Finrod and Sauron" by Lind Erebros)

(I did have one of Gandalf, too, from "The Hobbit" but the link isn't registering on Memverse for some weird reason. :-( So I guess it's just Silmarillion stuff today.)

Yes, you can. You may not be very gifted in drawing, but anyone and everyone can draw.

Whenever I draw. Something is always off-site. Whether it's the head or a arm. And the legs always look like they are about to do a split. Definitely not gifted.

Everyone. Can. Draw. Okay? I just have a few hundred hours' head start on mostly everyone I know because I practice drawing all the time. My opinion is that drawing is really only about 10% skill and more than 50% experience (the rest is passion, but that sounds really cliche).
Case in point: I did very similar drawings of the same scene from "The Hobbit" in December 2014 and in May 2017. It's hilarious to see how much I improved in just two and a half years.

Abi! These are super cool and awesome. Just wondering (and have been wondering for a very long time :P) what exactly does computer art entail?

Aww, thanks, Emily! X-D
Well…for me, I use an app on my Kindle. I draw the initial sketch with paper and pencil, take a picture of the drawing, and import it into the app. Then I make another layer on top of the reference picture and do line art, and then do the colors underneath, and then a background underneath all of that. Then I delete the reference picture. It takes much, much longer than by-hand sketches, but I needed to learn sooner or later because it's a good skill in case there's some time that I need to make something by computer rather than by hand.
Most people use a special kind of computer specially designed for art, but I don't have that. And I already have a pretty good app, even though my Kindle's screen is kind of small.

Wow, that's really neat Abi… sounds really intense. xD I'd like to try something like that out sometime. I'm so bad at drawing but there's so many times when I really wish I was able to. I should practice, but I never make it a priority… sigh

I just did a bunch of random lines and it turned out way better than I thought! :P Another thing I did was after I drew the lines, I dragged my pencil eraser across the page a few times and it really gave that snowy effect :D

Anyway thanks :D
