Christine Daaé (Dani the Older)

Last night I lay asleeping
There came a dream so fair,
I stood in old jerusalem
Beside the temple there
I heard the children singing
And ever as they sang,
Methought the voice of angels
From heaven in answer rang
"jerusalem, jerusalem!
Lift up you gates and sing,
Hosanna in the highest.
Hosanna to your king!"

And then methought my dream was chang'd
The streets no longer rang
Hush'd were the glad hosannas
The little children sang
The sun grew dark with mystery,
The morn was cold and chill
As the shadow of a cross arose
Upon a lonely hill
"jerusalem, jerusalem!
Hark! how the angels sing,
Hosanna in the highest,
Hosanna to your king!"

And once again the scene was chang'd
New earth there seem'd to be,
I saw the holy city
Beside the tideless sea
The light of God was on it's streets
The gates were open wide,
And all who would might enter
And no one was denied.
No need of moon or stars by night,
Or sun to shine by day,
It was the new jerusalem
That would not pass away
"jerusalem! jerusalem
Sing for the night is o'er
Hosanna in the highest
Hosanna for evermore!"

Hey, hey, hey everyone!!! :)
I just auditioned for an event, so if you want to check out my video and let me know what you think…

Also, our quartet is playing at a benefit concert in April. We almost have our set finalized, but we need an instrumental. Any suggestions?!?! :)

2 Corinthians 5:17

Hello, Musical Friends!!
I would like to learn a ragtime, kind of like Solace or The Entertainer by Joplin. I'd like something that isn't too fast, but still fun to play :) I'm think of Solace, but it's 6 minutes long…and if I can find something like it that isn't as long, that'd be great.
Thanks!

The only reason Solace is so long is because it repeats so many times. It is actually only two pages. That is the one I would recommend. It's really fun to play too!

Oh, really?! Neat! Then I might do that. =) Thank you, Matthew!

Do you have any recommendations for a piano piece that is upbeat and fun to play, but is not too hard or not too easy?
Edit: Also, what piano curriculum do you use, either to teach or to learn?

Define "too hard" and "too easy".
I teach with Piano Adventures or the Alfred curriculum primarily; I "graduated" from any structured curriculum years ago, but when I was learning from a curriculum I started with Thompson which I do not recommend: the only two songs that impressed me favorably in the years that I did Thompson were "The Muffin Man" and "Bill Grogan's Goat", and the only thing I learned for sure was that if I ever wrote songs to inspire young children to practice an instrument that they did not particularly enjoy I would not call any song "The Tiresome Woodpecker". Ever. After a couple books of Thompson I switched to learning out Piano Adventures, which I liked so much that I still teach out of it.

Haha yes, "the Muffin Man" and "Bill Grogan's Goat" were cool songs! x-)

Um… too hard would be something above the Mozart's Turkish March, which I can play, and too easy would be below Beethoven's Fur Elise, which I can play.
I would like to be able to play the piano to accompany my brother, who leads worship on the guitar at our little church, but I have taught myself what I know, and I'm not very good at playing to accompany voice.
Are there any good curriculum that would help me with this? It doesn't have to necessarily be just hymns. Also, how can I better learn how to play off of chords? I really just don't know much music theory. I can read music, but that's about it. I know my major and minor scales.
So, I hope that helps u know where I'm at! I'd really like to improve and get better, but I don't much know what to do from here. Help! :)

Do you have a fake book? That is really helping me with improvisation, along with Matthew's excellent teaching. xD

Oh, I have the perfect curriculum for you. Greg Howlett has a DVD and workbook Church Pianist Set that I have enjoyed (I actually have the Complete Set) if you like more structure. They are great: I have done a few of them myself (including "Accompanying" and "Congregational Accompanying" which are probably what you are looking for). The level of the DVDs is not very "professional" (it's one step above a guy sitting there at the piano with his video camera) but for the purpose I need it for (as a church pianist) it accomplishes its purpose quite well. If you don't want to buy the set, I think he also has online free church pianist lessons which you should be able to access here:
http://www.greghowlett.com/freechristianpianomusic.aspx

Want to write an arrangement of a hymn? He addresses that. Want to be able to play by ear? Want to accompany a soloist? He addresses those too. Want to only have to learn theory necessary for a church pianist? He downsizes all theory to one pretty small book. I don't know how much of that is on the free videos, but they are all in the book set (which my former teacher gave me a few years ago, so I got it all for free).
He has a sense of humor too, which I appreciate, and sometimes it is just fun to listen to another church pianist talk about church pianist-ing. Hope this helps!

"The Little Negro" by Claude Debussy is really fun, as is Katchaturian's "Sabre Dance" (That one might be a little easy if you don't play it fast enough). "Reverie" by Ravel is quite pretty, as well as "Melodie" from Orfeo ed Euridice by Gluck.
I love how Helene Grimaud plays "Melodie" here is a link (the first minute is mostly clapping): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypSnZAnketE

That is an awesome piece. I have not played it seriously, but it was in the running of pieces that I was thinking about playing a couple years ago, and my thought whenever I listen to it is: "Why is everyone so excited about the first movement? This is amazing!"

Only a couple, Dear X and Born Again. I was just saying that I don't usually like that style too much. I have to say though, the ones I recognized aren't bad. Just not my favorite.

But I thought the reason you didn't like Love & The Outcome was because it was contemporary music.

^In other words, I though your family didn't listen to rock/music with drums/etc. :}^

She's just a little demented. looks at her anti-skillet post maybe a lot. Yes, a lot.

You called Love & The Outcome "trash". That's worse than anything I've said.

I said 'The Outcome' was trash. Not Love and the Outcome.

Rosie, in all honesty, what do you think of me? (not taking into your consideration, of course, this current argumentation)
