I'd like to help but I'm not very good at either. : /

Are you writing songs for anything specific, or just for enjoyment?

I don't have anything specific in mind right now. I'm mostly doing it for enjoyment and for the glory of God. :) We have sang a couple of my songs at our church. I might eventually want to record them and put them on an album. We'll see about that.

While I was gone, I believe the Sam said that Mozart was all lullabies. Obviously, he has not listened to his Rondo Alla Turka, which I have been able to play, and I will post a link here:

This is me playing Rachmaninoff's Prelude in C sharp minor (yes, the one the guy plays with the bars) in the Alliance of Church Musicians competition (the 14-16 division) last April. The first bit is pretty slow, but it gets much more exciting later.

Let me know what you think, because I am playing it again for my Senior Recital in May and need a fresh pair (or several pairs) of ears to listen to it.

Oh, I so wish I could listen to that! :( I played that one for a recital in 2012.

I forgot to mention this before… Most of my songs have at least some contemporary style (thus, a lot of syncopation). There's one of them that might become a rap song. I'm trying to compose in all different styles. :) Just in case that might change your decision…

The one I did with Bethany last year though, (The Way, the Truth, the Life - which is very contemporary) - she liked it even though she's picky with music (which I wasn't aware of at the time). If you have problems with contemporary music, I can't promise you that what I have will please you, but you might be surprised.

Tori: are you the one that told me you play harp? Do you have a full-size? I have a lap-size one, which I bought myself, as I couldn't afford a tall one. :P Matthew tells me they're like $10,000. :(

Look on Craiglist! We bought a 38 string lever harp for about half the price of it new! Like new condition :)

Why can't you listen to it? It would be doubly helpful if someone who performed it before could give me some thoughts!

Yes, harps are quite pricey! I've seen them go from $1500 up (way, way up ;), depending on the quality, number of strings, etc. Venus student harps sell for $10,000 or more.

@Tori: Great! I'll try to write you an email in the next couple of days. I don't have music written out for a lot of the songs, because my current computer (which will soon be replaced, Lord willing) runs my Sibelius software extremely slow. I don't really like to use it like that. I can send you the words though.

Does anyone have any ideas for how to acquire an alto flute for less than several thousands of dollars? I've seen some junky ones for around $800, but I don't want a junky one :)

OK, thanks! I bought mine off of Amazon (a 28 string lever one) for $365 or thereabouts. I can't remember the exact price.

Yes, that is what is deterring me from getting a full-size pedal harp. There's a girl in our orchestra whose parents bought her a full-size harp (and a pink lap one). I can't help but feel jealous - I've got to pay my way if I want a full-size one.. :P :)

Here's the scoop.u want a Lyon and Healy or a salvi harp. Buy used. I would recommend a troubadour. It's a lever harp but u can get pretty far in pieces with it…like even some pizzoli pieces can be played on there. if u want a pedal one then we are talking at least right thousand. I have a troubadour I got used for like 2500. Not too bad considering.look on Ebay and craigslist.

OK, thanks so much! I have a lap-size lever harp. The bad part is, I can't play many accidentals. My orchestra piece I'm supposed to be playing right now has a lot of accidentals, so it's been pretty tough. Yeah, I've thought of Craigslist. Thanks a bunch!

Sure! Yeah accidentals are nasty. Pedal harps are sooo awesome for if u have a ton of em.

I think I'm flipping the levers as much as I'm actually playing the strings in that piece! :P I've never played a pedal harp…I'm dying to… :(
