#3: Do you mean feudal hierarchy? Futile means pointless. :P

#4: I was actually looking at weapons when I was researching for my character, and I don't know if pole arms would be the best weapon. Pole arms are a bit cumbersome and long. I guess they would work if your character was tall or a part of an army, but that'd be about the only times they'd be practical. Unless you had your character use the pole arm as a staff when not in use.

Just thoughts as I read this. #3 in particular was nagging at me. And thank you for using punctuation. It helps. :)

I've been thinking up a back story for my character here is an example of the halberd being used.

please understand that you don't hold it by the vary end (that would be cumbersome) but rather more towards the middle of the shaft. And you can always cut a few inches of the handle off for convince.

Setting: In the woods. The moon is rising and wolvar, who just left four thieves dead in their camp, is going to getaway before the rest of the band returns. Runs into one of the sentries who suspects treachery. This is the fight that issued.

“If four men lying dead where they laid down to sleep is treachery, then what you've said is true.” while he said this Wolvar raised the halberd and brought it back to as if to bring a blow down upon the outlaw, who was rushing toured him holding his sword in preparation to parry the blow. But in steed of bringing the blade down Wolvar brought the but of the handle up hitting the outlaw across the face. then quickly twisting is body smashed the ax blade into the man's left side/hip. The thief uttered a cry and fell into the dark shadow of a tree to the right. Wolvar skipped back a step and guided by a second cry drove the point of his halberd into the mans face as a weakly thrown sword hit the leafs at his feet. The cries stop and the dieing man twitches some and then lies still. The spike had pierced the outlaw's face just bellow the cheek bone, and upon jerking his head back in reflex, the point had destroyed the brain.

The story goes on and Wolvar meets up with ether the group or one of the group maybe a week latter, But I'm not sure how just yet.

Please tell me how I can improve this. (ok more gore :D)

The spelling could use a little work, but it's not bad. You'd have to talk to Sam about whether or not it fits. I still don't know if my character is good or not. :P

And about the pole arms. Point taken (no pun intended), but I still think pole arms are a bit huge (most were very tall, and the people of the Middle Ages were shorter than we are). There are situations, like the one you presented, where they can be used though. I think it depends on the character.

This *is* future Alavaria, y'know. Innovation is allowed...

Future Alavatria? I'm a little confused. Do you mean future as in after 2014? or future as in some time before Martian Luther nailed the ninety-five thesis on the door of the Wittenberg church (1517)? Anyhow the guisarne seems to be about the same thing, Just different. I still like the halberd though, and I would be vary grateful if ya'll will let me keep it, even thought it is from the Renascence.
^I still cant believe I made that mistake.^

This is a fictional story, remember. Sam is talking about the "future" after the story (TSTNE)… you know, the one I gave you to read?

Just to make sure you completely understand, this is set in a completely fictional world, and does not at all have to follow the progression of history in our world. We are not permitted to do anything completely out of place in this world, but as Sam said, a little innovation is perfectly acceptable. :)

Thanks saved by grace. That makes things vary clear. I think we are on the same page now. I've been looking at the middle ages and then at this thinking “this is going be a vary different medieval.” but since this is not even in Europe then it doesn't have to be the reality (and I can keep my halberd. yipe!!!). Thank you for making things clear to me.

Now I have a few questions.

  1. have cannons been invented?
  2. dose any one know the recipe for Greek Fire?
  3. Is anyone against having dragons/pterodactyls as untenable pests?(it has the potential to get out of hand.)
  4. concrete helmets anyone? :-D

  1. I don't know, but that does seem a little too advanced for Alavaria… we've used catapults, though; does that work well enough? :)
  2. I'm sure someone could suddenly find it out. ;)
  3. Yes, that does seem to have the potential of getting out of hand… I don't know if Sam would allow that. But you'd have to ask him; he is the Gamemaster, after all. ;)
  4. Doesn't sound bad to me! Just a little heavy… :D

  1. Works.
  2. Perhaps in a distant land, or you could invent it.
  3. As you say, they could be considered OP. Perhaps on a certain island, somewhere…
  4. As SBG said, heavy!

On a second thought concrete is a bad idea. It might absorb a few blows from a morning-star, but a mace would brake it and send you flying! (maximum of two hits from a sword)
I was just trying to think up a feasible method of mass producing inexpensive armor.
(most Chines armor was made out of harden clay)

I have a couple of questions…

  1. Are we going to start soon?
  2. Do all of us have to have a Practice RP thread? I don't have one so….Just asking :)
  3. When we do start are we writing in the 1st 2nd or 3rd person? (I know I asked this before but I forgot :P)

Thanks :)!

  1. Soon. I have schoolwork y'know, and if I took all of my time working on the RP I wouldn't be able to do the normal quick chatting with you all I normally do. I am thinking that we'll have a set "base", where everyone can hang out, and I will create topics with certain "missions", for you to carry out.

  2. Maybe. Those are meant as both a backstory, and practice, for you to get used to RPing.

  3. For your own character, you can use any of the three. However, I might assign specific people to make their own "storyline RP" for everyone to work in, and they'd use 3rd person to narrate.

OK I changed a few things about my RP character so here it is again.

Name: wolvar of xynnar
Age: 16 (approximately)
hight: 5ft 6”
Appearance: tan/yellow laggings knife strapped on just above the right knee. gray tunic. light brown leather belt may have 0 to 3 knives. a limp money bag hangs just below the swords hilt on the left. On his right a medieval wallet slung over left shoulder (contains knives when not on belt). Raged Brown cloak without sleeve the hood has been cut of leaving a raged uneven caller. One left handed glove that covers most of the for arm, and a right handed gantlet although not rusty it has not been cleaned and is dull gray. Grim set lips give the cheeks a hallow appearance, which intern makes the face look long. Plan nose nether pointy nor fat. has spectrum eye color and orange red hair.

Weapons: halberd. 2 swords (a 3ft sword on belt & 2½ft sword strapped to back under cloak). 3 blade heavy throwing knives + 1 dress dagger (on upper right arm or belt), reinforced gantlet, has a helmet (spangen-helm) but it's more of a dress helmet and was not made for battle. sling kept wrapped around the lag in right boot.
Now this is something I dreamed up; two close fitting tin plats under the tunic that covers the ribcage. The chain mail that connects the two plats covers the sternum and stomach. wool is woven into the chain to residue clanking. This would not help much against javelins or hacks, but provides protection against knives and cuts from sword slashes. This dose not hamper movement, is far cheaper then ether plated armor or a chain mail shirt, and you probably wont even know I'm waring it. I would like to call it tin ribs(but nobody will know what your talking about).
collapsible crossbow (14 lb. Draw. I dreamed this up too).

Description: wolvar is illiterate, trust few. His Face is firmly set, but occasionally smiles weakly. avoids unnecessary eye contact, but watches peoples faces as if probing for hidden motives. Will talk, and is strategically creative, but will struggle to keep a casual conversation going. Still Learning to sword fight but is good enough to hold his own. Main weapon is the halberd but is a deadly knife thrower. Has shot bows & cross bows in previous adventures, 50% accuracy. Prefers the woods where he passionately hunts for thieves while hoping to bring an old man, with a brand on the side of his left hand, to justice but the man is said to have ten league boots (thats just whats said). Remembers mechanical things almost perfectly(bobby traps, locks, and most sword moves he's seen). Knows a few herbs and natural cures (pet moss is good for cuts and wounds etc.). And likes to take risks, but not “at the whim of acquaintances”(sorry but this is a category most of you fall in so don't bank on him being there).

Mane fighting tactic: watches for a hole defense, then gets you to repeat the motion.
sword name: delwi (welsh: to paralyze with fear)

exact sword dimensions
24” blade length 8 ½”handle+pommel 32” toddle length
35” blade length 8 ½”handle+pommel 43” toddle length

Hats off everyone! For pity's sake show some respect! The Great RP Master has spoken!!!
And I only have one week to train for this. (:-o
^HAAAAAAAAA!!!!^
so I looked at the other training threads and it would aper that RP-ing goes something like this

Random Jo, says what just happed [ your mentally depraved sister throws a pie ]
then
I deiced how I respond, [ I cache and eat the pie “yum!”]
then
Jo [OOC~that was close~] [sister grabs an AK-47]
then
I ……………..hurl a machete! ^ braking my monitor.^ and then face-desk into broken glass “ouch.”

Is that (more or less) how it's done? If so I'm good.

047344ffee577c2252bfb14152bc2bb3?s=128&d=mm

Roy Phillips

My sister advised me not to make a new thread, so these are the characters that I have drawn. I'm not sure when They will be available on-line, hopefully soon.

2 of Donavon Luke – one is of him happy, jolly, and younger, holding a costume. The other is of him welding the two swords, but the hat is missing. (I added a mustache in the second drawing)
I intend to combine the two with the computer.

Aka Kay – I add color to the weapons and other things. I don't think I did the hair vary well, but sister says its just fine and I don't want to ruin the picture redoing it.

Antonius M. – still working on it. The pike ax? I drew a pole but I'm not sure what to do next. Do you mean halberd?
I picture him having a sturdy frame and a beard (kind like Ken Ham's).

Wade Wilson – I added a few other colors but with a red cape, black tunic, black gloves, red leggings; red and black are the dominant colors. The cape hides the muscular arms ^sorry^, and the black glove on his left hand looks like it has six fingers. ^oops.^

Eryana – I drew a dirk (could easily be a Roman short sword) in the background. I did not draw a tessen (of-course that doesn't mean you can't have one in the game).

those who I have not done are:

Rayna – I have questions.
Jordan victor – I have questions.
Aubrey – no questions. next in line.
Madeline Wons – in progress

If there are any more characters please let me know.

Thank you for taking my advice! XD Is this what you wanted me to read before I left? Well, it looks pretty good to me (at first glance). :)

047344ffee577c2252bfb14152bc2bb3?s=128&d=mm

Roy Phillips

Correct, that's it.
I need feed back from people. If they were standing in the room with me I would ask them “is this what you had in mind?”. But since their not here I need some way to communicate what I'm doing. I guess I just don't want to draw 40 something characters and have 2/3 of the people consider them selves falsely portrayed because what I drew, was a far cry from how they pictured themselves. Now I'm sure nobody will sue, or make comments like, “what is that! an elephant?”
but I want draw the characters so that “Random Jo” will like what other people see when they see “his character” (Random Jo is my imaginary Ginny-pig. But don't worry he's not the RPing kinda guy. :-D).

Can I change the name of Jordan Victor to Yanko? I small little tiger that can talk and is friendly

047344ffee577c2252bfb14152bc2bb3?s=128&d=mm

Roy Phillips

Please understand that this is not intended to be exhaustive, nor is it intended to point out faults. But rather it is to help me accurately depict the RP characters.

@ yanko
1.) you said he wears armor. I know 3 basic types of European armor.
Knights usually wore leather armor, chain mail, then plate armor; all toped by a surcote.
Pike-men wore leather armor and chain mail. And sometimes gauntlets (plate armor).
Please tell me what you want him to ware.

2.) helmet? Please go to wikipedea and find a medieval helmet that you like, then tell me what type it is. (mine has a spangem-helm)

3.) I assume you invented the collapsible shield. I really like it, but If I am going to draw this shield I'll need more detail.
Is it round, square, or tear-dropped?
How dose it work?
Is it telescopic or dose it open like a fan?
Is it spring loaded?
Dose it “lock”open or dose it use gravity?

Your character is really cool. I don't want you to change any thing. I just need to know the details that aren't required in a +general+ description.

047344ffee577c2252bfb14152bc2bb3?s=128&d=mm

Roy Phillips

For Rayna I have a much simpler question so I'll post it and get it over with.

@ who ever considers themselves the owner of the Rayna character.
You said she is an expert at almost all marshal arts. Although I'm sure that she knows how to use 50 + weapons, I can not draw that many weapons in one picture. Please tell me five weapons you want her to have when I draw her (and then pick more up during the roll play).

047344ffee577c2252bfb14152bc2bb3?s=128&d=mm

Roy Phillips

@ Danielle
I say five because most weapons fall into about that many categorize.

  1. poles (eg. Quarter-staff),
  2. cubing (eg. flail/nun-chucks),
  3. slashing (anything with a blade)
  4. hurling (practically anything)
  5. jabbing [eg. Fencing (Renascence)]
so give your self some variety. You can even have six if you do not pick a +broadsword+ …… and promise to leave the 100 lb bows to the men. ^a deal I wish I could make with ½ the RPC^
