I'm looking for music that I can use for Contra Dances (are you familiar with that?). It's similar to square dancing - kind of like they've done at BB Nationals for the last couple years. Anything from lighter classical to folk-type could be used, but it needs to have a steady beat (no dramatic tempo changes) and preferably no lyrics, although that's not absolutely necessary. I think the mp3.li may be a good site, but I can't figure out how to listen to any of the music…

Yes, I am familiar with that kind of dance though I have never done it myself. I have only been to one. :) So how do you organize these dances? How many people normally come to a dance? It sounds like a lot of fun!
I think you may have to download the music to listen to it. :S

I don’t think I will be on for awhile (except to maybe check the LIST). I’m busy so if you need/want to talk email might just be the best way to keep in touch. :) Or you could leave a post here and I’ll get back with you when I can. :D
To get my email you can get in touch with Carissa and she will approve (or not approve) of you emailing me (as well as give you the rules that come with emailing me). I’m a busy girl and don’t want to be spammed right now, thank you very much! LOL :)

Hey everyone! I was asked to change my username to something else. So I am NO LONGER ANYTHING ELUSIVE. I'm ServantOftheLORD, until I can find something better. I'm open to suggestions.

Okay, I’ll consider.

Your right. It is kinda strange to go around as Miss Misspelled. Jk Who is Thor btw?

It’s not that I don’t like it. I got the name as a kind of joke because I would go “poof” from the SC randomly. :) My dad recently asked me to change it because he thought the name, “Lady Elusive” sounded a bit flirtatious and (to someone who didn’t know me very well) might imply things that aren’t proper. That is the reason I decided to change it. :)
"Abstain from all appearance of evil." 1 Thessalonians 5:22

BTW, does anyone know if there is anyway to change the name of a thread? I'm thinking there isn't but just thought I'd ask… :)

Seth, did you see the questions I asked about the Contra Dances?

Oh, there it is! :)
This group was actually started by a homeschool mom who has called for about 5 years now, I think, but their family just moved and I took over the calling. Since everything was already set up, there's not a lot of organization required, and any that is my mom usually does. Besides renting a building and bringing sound equipment and usually some snacks and such, there's really not much to do except get people to come. :) Usually we have about 30 dancers, but sometimes as few as 20 or as many as 50. There's also several larger groups in the area, some with as many as 200 people that usually come. Those are a lot of fun to call for.
It is - if you're ever in the Springfield MO area you'll have to come by and dance a bit. :)

266cde1033d31d718cd424406e1da504?s=128&d=mm

Rebeka B.

Wow, that is so cool! How often do you have it? I'll be sure to drop by if I get a chance! :)
There are several annual homeschool dances in our area, much like what you have (I think), but we always seem to busy to go to them when they come around. I don't know how to dance much really, but I'd love to learn!
Do you have people who give lessons/instructions for the dances?

B5398d36188fb1b2fd2bfc030485b821?s=128&d=mm

Seth W.

We do it once a month (in fact, there's one tonight), most other places near us do it quarterly.
Well, not really - the nice thing about these dances is that you can go with absolutely zero experience and still have fun. I don't know about the dances near you, but down here it's expected that several people have never done it before, and that's not a problem, especially if your partner knows what he's doing. I don't know of anyone anywhere who gives private lessons or anything like that, but some groups use the first half-hour or so to teach newcomers the basic idea, so that they're not completely lost when the first dance starts - you could check it any of your groups do that, it's fairly common.
Also, if you go to Nationals then they've had a similar type of dance there the last few years. Extra incentive. :)

266cde1033d31d718cd424406e1da504?s=128&d=mm

Rebeka B.

Well, I don’t think the homeschooling group in our area does their dances quite so often. You’re probably doing it now I’d image (it’s 7:45 in Ohio). :) Do you get to dance too? It sounds like it would be fun to just learn from experience (but I would want a partner who wouldn’t mind if I messed up a few times). :P
I will try to make it to Nationals if I can, but I have a feeling that even if I made it I would not be competing at Nationals. We are very busy and Nationals cost so much! But I will still do the best I can, well I take care of mom and get ready for a new sibling (yay! :D). I would really like to be able to met you (and everyone else on memverse)!

What college do you go to? Do you live on campus? You will be going back to school soon, right?

B5398d36188fb1b2fd2bfc030485b821?s=128&d=mm

Seth W.

Yes, we do the dances from 7:00-10:00. I don't usually dance, but sometimes I do if everyone knows a particular dance pretty well. Some dances have small sets (usually 4 couples) and they usually 'call' their own set, so I dance those as well. Of course, I dance all the time in other groups, like the Springfield one (which we're going to tonight, actually).
Yes, Nationals are rather pricey. :( I'd like to meet you and everyone else as well - I've never personally met anyone on memverse beside Bethany and Carissa, and they only briefly. I probably won't be there either, because I have classes going on then, but it's still possible.

I go to a local college, it's pretty close to where I live so I can commute, which is a huge blessing (and I save about $7,000 a year because of it). I'll be going back on Wednesday, so I'll be rather scarce on the forums after that (not that I've been particularly active lately). It's a great college, and I really like all the teachers. I'm currently studying music (vocal and piano), and also doing some theatre. It's a "Christian" university, which has its pros and cons, but overall I'm really happy about going there.

I'm going to delete the name of the college soon, so if you wouldn't mind not repeating it I'd appreciate it. :)

266cde1033d31d718cd424406e1da504?s=128&d=mm

Rebeka B.

Oh, that sounds like so much fun, and a really neat ministry to be a part of too! I'll bet you get to know a lot of people through that! :)
I don't know anyone on memverse either, except my cousins and a few friends (who don't get on much anymore). We really should have some kind of get together sometime for everyone on memverse so we can all met each other in person. Something that wouldn't cost as much as Nationals and as a place that would be easier for everyone to get too. Besides that we could adapt the date to fit peoples schedules a bit more. :)

That's really nice that you are able to commute! I have friends who do that. I don't think I would like to be away from home with out my family, but if I went to college I would probably go to the college my parents went to (Geneva College), but I don't really feel like God is leading me to got to college right now. :) Do you have thoughts on whether or not girls should go to college? Ah, we will all miss seeing you on memverse… and all the more glad when you can come back! :) Next year I'd really like to sing in "Handel's Messiah"! Have you ever heard it? It is really awesome! What kind of occupation do you plan on taking up after college?

That's fine and I wont. :)

Only briefly, Seth? I remember having at least a 30 minute discussion about the competition, after it was all over! And I remember talking in the family fun room…and talking before the challenge rounds!

B5398d36188fb1b2fd2bfc030485b821?s=128&d=mm

Seth W.

Yes, I'd love go be able to get together with everyone and put some faces to all these changing usernames! Unfortunately, though, that doesn't seem likely…unless we can all get our parents on memverse and make them want to meet each other. :) Btw, is the "Brother's Keeper" profile picture you?

Oh yes, I've heard the "Messiah"! I've actually only listened to the entire thing once, but we sang that Hallelujah Chorus in choir at college, and I'm kind of familiar with some other parts as well. It's not a particularly easy piece - do you sing in a choir or anything similar right now? I think we're going to do a complete work for our Spring Concert - I'll find out which one on Wednesday (hopefully), but I think it may be a Bach piece. That'll be fun.

Haha…I certainly don't think that it is inherently right or wrong for a girl to go to college. If someone feels called to a specific ministry that either requires or would be strongly improved with a college degree, that I'd support that choice and say go ahead. However, if a girl is planning on getting married and raising a family, then college could very well be a waste of time, and also potentially cause undue stress in a marriage because of debt that would likely be incurred.

True. :) Also a little bit before locals in 2012 - and I believe I sat next to Bethany for the written test :) And were one you of you playing Dutch Blitz with some other contestants…Hannah Leary?….and I at Nationals in 2011?
Okay, maybe not briefly. :) What I intended to communicate through that term was that I know you better by means of internet sources (memverse [and previously quizlet]) than by meeting in person.
Still…I haven't seen you all personally in almost 2 years now. We definitely need to have a memverse get-together. Does anyone have any ideas? :)

Ddd5aeff0d37e8c2aa9782a6316c57a8?s=128&d=mm

Sarah B.

Your right, it would be hard to get everyone together. The best we can do is do try to get together if we happen to be traveling through the area and we know a fellow memverser lives near by. :) It’s a shame the A.s live so close to me and I have never met them…
Haha…no it’s not me, but if you change your profile picture to one of yourself I’ll change mine. :P

At a college campus near by they perform “Messiah” every December and invite homeschoolers to join and learn how to sing the parts. I love to go hear it and have a lot of friends who sing in it. The reason I haven’t done it before now is because it would take up a lot of dad’s time to drive me to practices every week… but this year I hope to be able to drive myself places. Our church does not have a choir right now. I wish we did. My sister and I are trying to learn parts on our own but it’s kind of tough. :\ What kind of job could you get with music?

Yes, I agree with you on that. When I was younger I always thought I would go to college but now I can’t think how it would help me much in the course I feel God is calling me. :)

@Bethany- Spy or not, you certainly know Seth better then I do, I’ll give you that! LOL :D

B5398d36188fb1b2fd2bfc030485b821?s=128&d=mm

Seth W.

Okay, picture done. :) There is also a picture of me a few years ago on the BB website, under 2011 National Competitors.
That's really nice that Mount Vernon invites homeschoolers to sing with them. How far away are you from the campus? My college has a similar program, there is a "community choir" that meets once a week, and then performs with the concert choir (but we rehearse 3 times a week). Out church doesn't have a choir either, except a youth choir that I started just about 2 years ago. We don't sing every week, because most of the people in it have never had any sort of vocal training and several have hardly any musical experience at all, but it's a lot of fun and I've learned a lot by teaching it. I would really like to continue teaching choirs, whether church or school, but right now I'm likely going to pursue a career in Veterinary Medicine, and hopefully teach music (especially vocal ensembles) on the side, and play for churches.

Yes, Bethany probably knows me better than anyone else on Memverse. And she has a good memory - I'd forgotten about half the conversations that she mentioned. :)

I like it. Much less green then the other one, I might add (jokingly of course). Here is mine. It was taken fall 2013. I wouldn’t be much of a spy if I didn’t know about the pictures of you on BB website. ;) I wish you could met my family. It would be so much fun!
Ha! Are you trying to see if I’ll tell you where I live? I think we live 15-20 minutes away. :) When I was little (6-10 age range) I was part of a children’s choir. We would sing at nursing homes and such. It was so much fun and I made a lot of friends with the elderly at that nursing home. More recently we had a home church and one of the fathers started a youth choir, sadly it only lasted for a few weeks because that family ended up going to a different church. I will definitely be praying for you as you seek the Lord’s will as a music teacher.

What kind a Veterinary Medicine are you looking into? Large animal, or small animal? (are they the same?)

B5398d36188fb1b2fd2bfc030485b821?s=128&d=mm

Seth W.

Haha, yes, the green one is when I was really sick. :) Yes, I'd love to meet your family as well. Maybe you all can come down to the world's largest waters slide when it opens in Kansas City (the one that the P's don't know about:)), and then all 3 families can meet each other. :) Maybe the A's will come too. Ahhh, wistful thinking…
Well, you've been asking an awful lot of questions yourself! And I don't think I know anyone who has met you personally and can confirm you really are who you say you are… :P
I don't know for sure, I'm tending toward large animals since that's what I'm most familiar with, but I could see myself moving toward smaller animals. I don't think the degree is different, but you can have different emphases (like a music major; you can be primarily vocal, piano, or instrumental, but it's still music major, so you're getting some of everything).

If you ended up going to college what would you go for?

EDIT - So you are a spy! I suspected as much. :)

Ahh! 2 years…you know, I've invited your family over, if you all would like to drive some :) Oh, Seth - do you remember when you and your brothers and Amy and I all talked the entire time after the written test in the family room? =)

Well, Brother'sKeeper – I have seen him 2 times in person…and have had some lengthy discussions with him :)

Hey, Seth! I know about that slide now, so you don't have to say that I don't! JK, JK =)

You know, Seth, that's a really great idea…but why would you want to go swimming/going down that slide then?! There would be to many people to talk to then…and you know, out-going people like to talk more than swim (at least, I do ;D) Well, if the Alex.'s decide to come then, they still have to come to our house, for sure. Or, you all could just come to our house, and we play games, talk, and everything else! better stop getting my hopes up :(

Seth and Brother'sKeeper - I changed my picture too =) Your's are great!

More talking? Wow… I guess we talked a lot more than I remembered. :) I tend to forget conversations unless we were discussing something particularly important or interesting, and I think we were primarily just small-talking. I do remember that you told me you played piano (subject of importance to me) and we talked about the BB quite a bit (another subject of high importance).
Oh yes, I remember talking to Amy - she seemed to be quieter than you, but I enjoyed talking to her. Is she on memverse?

EDIT - Bethany, I like your picture. Is that before or after the jaw surgery?

And if the A's came, if they have extra room they could pick up some of BK's family on the way (to save on gas).

Hey! That's a plan! But the A's have like 10 children, and BK's family has at least than many, so they'd have to rent a bus or something! We have 7 children, and that's the smallest of these 4 families!!!

I'd love to, we just need an excuse to be in that area so that I don't have to pay $150 in gas. Not to be offensive, but I don't know if meeting you all is worth that much to me… :)

So, what have you done today? :)

Well, I practiced piano for tomorrow (which I need to some more in a few minutes), I worked on an essay that I'm writing to try to win a trip to Italy (I'm partially Italian), I ate dinner (homemade pizza), and I've been on memverse for a while off and on having an enjoyable discussion with a few people that I would like to see in person. :) Also, I created a Gravatar account and got a nice young lady to put up a picture of herself as her profile picture, so now I can put a face to a name.

You have a lot of water parks in your area? That’s really neat! I just wish my family was more into stuff like that now… Let me think, what do we have in our area… Oh, I know we have roller coasters! I have never been on one though. :) Yeah, I don't think we could pay that much just to visit with friends (and ones we have never met before at that!). :( But if….if I'm in the area I will not hesitate to contact one or both of you. ;)
Haha. I'm a real person, and I wont lie to you on purpose (of course)! :) Though I think a lot of us probably talk a lot different in real life then we do here on MV (all the more reason to met in person sometime!).
So Seth, here on memverse, is this "small-talk" you wont be likely to remember? :) I tend to like deeper conversation too. So what have you (Bethany too) been studying in the Bible lately? (I'll try to think up some more "deeper" questions.)
How do you chose songs to play on Sunday mornings. or are they chosen for you?

If I tell you what I would go to college for I don’t think you will believe me. So I’ll just tell you, and if you want me to prove it I can. :) I always wanted to be a large animal veterinarian (specializing with horses most likely). Do I need to prove that?

Yes, I am a spy but not a very good one most of the time (because I'm either to busy or on memverse)… are you? :)

Bethany- I like your picture too! Thanks for joining in the conversation! :) How bout you, are you going to college in a few years? I’m Irish and a bunch of other things, but not Italian (though that does not mean I don’t like that style of food!!!). Are you and Seth both on Google Plus?

Okay, if you and Seth are going to go by your first names, I might as well join the group too! You guys can go ahead and call me by my name "Sarah". :)
