Wretched Man
My 2012 location wish is: Cincinnati, OH at the downtown convention center. (<{<[<(< Creation Museum!! >)>]>}>)
Wretched Son #4
I think it would be great in Cincinnati, too! Then, our whole family could go, and not just some of us.
Wretched Son #3
Yeah, Cincinnati would be soooo cool! I love the Creation Museum, especially the petting zoo and riding the camel!
2 Corinthians 5:17
I want it to be in NC somewhere :) Or maybe near the Creation Museum!
Nathan
I would like it someplace close to South Dakota so that way we can go. I think that Minneapolis would be our best shot.
Christian Alexander
You totally had me believing that someone had found out where Nationals were going to be. And then I saw that you were the one who made the first post, and I knew it couldn't be true. :P
Sarah
Minneapolis would be an ideal location for my family, too! We live in Plymouth, MN. :-)
Wretched Man
@USNortherners: Doesn't the snow fall begin for all of you in August and not end 'til April or May? It could be treacherous having the Bible Bee up your way. :)
Bethany Meckle (inactive)
Minneapolis would be great for us too because we live in fargo, ND. @Wretched Man - USUALLY the snow and bad weather lasts that long, :D, but not this year. It started feeling like winter about October and we lost all our snow in mid-march.
Emily H
Texas!!! :) Or Cincinnati would be great too. I love the Creation Museum.
Matthew Minica
YES! YES! Have it in TEXAS!!!!!
If not, then I think Phoenix would be fun! I'd like for it to be in Cincinatti, except that I hope they will wait until the Ark Encounter is open in 2014.
Emily H
Yeah, I'd like for them to hold off on Cincinnati till the Ark Encounter opens too. :) The Ark Encounter sounds so neat. I hope my family can go once it opens.
Phoenix….is really hot, at least every time I've been. I wouldn't mind it being there, as long as I could stay indoors. :) Well, I don't really know what the weather is like in Texas. I've only been there three times, and it was just driving through.
I'd really like for Nationals to be in Texas.
Wretched Man
I have to admit that I think it would be better for the Bible Bee to wait until the Ark Encounter opens before they have it around that area; but I think there's a 2012 solution for this.
-
They could still have Nationals in Cincinnati so more people can visit the Creation Museum itself, and stir up more excitement for the Ark Encounter. Then …
-
They could have the 2014 or 2015 Nationals in Louisville (or Lexington), KY, because the Ark Encounter's site is about 45 miles/minutes further south than the Creation Museum. Louisville and Lexington would be sites in-between both the museum and the Encounter.
In the meantime, I'm definitely interested in seeing Dallas, TX (which is north enough in the state to appeal to other states) as a future site, though it would be difficult to get there from OH in October or November (as I know it is for others, too, to go to the northern or eastern states.
My theory as to why they don't announce the site until later on is, I believe, they wait to see the entire geographical picture of the final registrants, both hosts and participants, and try to select a site that is closest to a majority of those participating; thus, DC, Chicago, and Nashville were all conducive in travel to most former participants. (I mean, if you were the organizers of this type of event, would you not want to maximize the potential of the amount of families you would have attending (not just participating at) Nationals? It just makes fiscal sense.)
I also speculate that at some point, maybe in the next 3-5 years, they will decide on a permanent site for Nationals, based on best attendance by families, as well as overall performance by the city/site itself in being family-friendly, affordable, and safe for travelers. Also, people could make their plans & reservations far in advance if a permanent site or rotation of sites were ever finalized. (It's tough on getting time off from work, as well as planning family finances, when you don't know where you're going until just 3-4 months before the trip.) A permanent site or rotation of sites would enable more and more families, not even National finalists, to make the National Bible Bee their family vacation spot each year, which is what we'd love to do. Plus, we could foster our growing relationships with other like-minded families if we knew we'd likely see each other year after year.
{If my theories and speculations are correct, this will mean there's less likelihood that sites in the West (HI, CA, AZ, UT, NV), the Northwest (OR, WA, ID), and the North (AK, MT, WY, ND, SD, MI, VT, NH, ME), as well as sparsely-populated areas (NE, IA, KS, AR, NM, OK, MS, WV, RI, CT), far-South cities (New Orleans, San Antonio, Houston, Phoenix, Miami, Orlando), and far-Northeast cities (Boston and New York) would ever be permanent sites, let alone even 1-year choices. This leaves us more central locations, like Denver, KC, St. Louis, Jacksonville, Cincinnati, Louisville, Lexington, Atlanta, Indianapolis, Columbus, Cleveland, or Pittsburgh to be both the next likely 1-year site and the future permanent site. Some other big cities, like Philadelphia, Baltimore, Charlotte, or Charleston might be too far east for many to attend, but just like DC and Chicago, might be a 1-year destination.
Just some hunches by a fiscally-conscious business man.

I would love for it to be in Michigan, but it probably won't be.
Peter
I heard that some people had been told at NBB 2011 that 2012 might be in Kansas City.
Beloved Wretched Woman
You got me too! Nice topic.
Aidan B.
@USNortherners: Doesn't the snow fall begin for all of you in August and not end 'til April or May? It could be treacherous having the Bible Bee up your way. :)
No way! I live in MI and this was the mildest winter on record! There is usually a thaw in Feb, then it really melts in April or May. And snow doesn't start falling again till late October. The highest temp it gets in the summer is 'bout 90 F.
Aidan B.
I would love for it to be in Michigan, but it probably won't be.
YES YES! Michigan! Like Grand Rapids or something.
ZachB
So did I, but it had been clarified that it wasn't (I think it was Kansas City)
Cowboy4Christ
I think somewhere out West would be a good guess.
Cowboy4Christ
Michigan? Seriously? :)
Emily H
Michigan would be awesome because we have friends who moved there, and we haven't seen them for years. But really, I don't think they'd do that to us south-westerners! :)
TEXAS!!! TEXAS!!! TEXAS!!! :D
Bethany Meckle (inactive)
Has anybody looked at the locals map recently? Because… They announced the Nationals location!!! It's NASHVILLE, TN!
His Servant
@Bethany – That's interesting…have you noticed though that when you click on it, everything says 2011? You're probably correct though… :)
Bethany Meckle (inactive)
Yeah, I did notice that. But maybe they just have the 2011 info up until they have something to put up for 2012? Maybe.
Wretched Man
I haven't found an announcement on the site (as of yet), but you do appear to be correct. I have found an address on the Local Maps site that says:
Host: Shelby Kennedy Foundation
Host Email: nationals@ShelbyKennedy.org
Public Event Name: 2012 National Bible Bee
Public Event Address: 611 Commerce St Nashville,TN 37203
Maybe they believe they have found their permanent, centralized location? Has anyone else found additional info that confirms or denies that NASHVILLE, TN could be/IS the place?
Wretched Man
I just did the same thing (chatted with an online rep), and she confirmed that it's not meant to convey the location for this year, which has yet to be determined. It's a TYPO.
What's funny is that the rep's name was "GraceAnn," so I asked her if she happened to be THE "GraceAnn" who finished second at last year's Nationals (Senior Division). And she said "YES!"
Pretty cool! A Bible Bee celebrity! Just like Alex W. and Laura H. here on MemVerse (and others that I'm not remembering off the top of my head).
2 Corinthians 5:17
Wow Mr Alexander! That is pretty neat!
Wretched Man
She said that she is volunteering for the Bible Bee, and being the online chat rep is one of her responsibilities from time to time.
If anyone wants to say some words of encouragement to her, you should go and do so. I just told her how much we appreciated her expressed passion for the Word, and encouraged her to keep It close to her heart all her days.
I'm sure she'd appreciate hearing from anyone who felt that she impacted them in a positive way with their own treatment of Scripture or their memorization efforts.
2 Corinthians 5:17
That is so neat. I loved the way she quoted her Scripture…with feeling and meaning :)
Emily H
Really??? I looked all over the webpage and I couldn't find it….ANYWHERE!!! :( Where did you see that?
EDIT:
Oh, haha! I just realized that there were two pages of comments! And you guys already answered my question. :)
So….the guessing continues. :P
Matthew Sinclair
@Rejoicing in him: I thought that was last year.
@everyone: I hope its in Cincinnati Ohio or Virginia.
2 Corinthians 5:17
Find out what?!?!?!? :D Where it will be? :D
Are any of you going to be join Mrs. McMahan and GraceAnn Westfaul tonight live? I might with my Mom! :)
Wretched Man
IT'S PIGEON FORGE, TN!!!!!!!!!
Wow! That's a terrific choice!
Besides Nashville, that's the only other TN spot at which I've ever stayed, which is right down the road from Gatlinburg and the Smokey Mountains and Dollywood (if you're a Dolly Parton/country music fan).
It's a beautiful, rural part of the state, with great siteseeing opportunities and fun attractions. Reminds me a lot like Branson, MO.
Octavius
Awesome!
(You're not just joking, are you?)
Matthew Sinclair
Mr. Wretched is right! The 2012 National Bible Bee Competition will be held at the Wilderness Stone Hill Lodge and Sevierville Events Center in Sevierville, Tennessee from Wednesday, November 14th through Saturday, November 17th.
Wretched Man
What does "joking" mean?
These words you use are difficult for me to fully, how you say, understand.
Sarah B.
This just copied from the Bible Bee website:
"The 2012 National Bible Bee Competition will be held at the Wilderness Stone Hill Lodge and Sevierville Events Center in Sevierville, Tennessee from Wednesday, November 14th through Saturday, November 17th."
So those of you who guessed Nashville weren't far off :)
Karthmin Aretani
Did you hit your head on something when you were getting a little excited over on the "tattoo" post?
Maybe that would explain why you can't understand everything.
Have a spirit of patient endurance; after some intense cogitation, my verbose sequence of nueral activity hereabove transmitted upon this projector ought to be understood.
Aidan B.
Yeah, MI would be great, I live there xD
Wretched Man
Too late, Wolverine! It's Volunteer Land again, but more scenic this time.
ZachB
AND IT'S ANNOUNCED!!!!!!!!!!!
Mrs. Mcmahan on a Facebook meeting on the page The Better Mom said that it would be near the Smokey Mountains area!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so excited!!!!!!!
Christian Alexander
Wait…what? Did you read any of the above comments? Hasn't it been announced already?
BibleBeeJunior14 (~*Lady Ariana*~)
Actually it's in Gatlinburg area…Nashville was last year.
Sarah BB
Actually, it was announced that it will be in Pigeon Forge area in Tennessee. http://www.biblebee.org/_hostcp/index.php?cid=f7e6c855ad
I was really hoping New Orleans since we live 40 minutes from there, but I heard it has to be within a days drive from their headquarters.
biblebee
So do you all like that it is at the same place as last year?
2 Corinthians 5:17
Yes and No :)
2 Corinthians 5:17

Emily H
