Key verses and Key words for 1 Timothy
Started by Courtney M.Courtney M.
On this post, please list the key verses you have chosen for each chapter of 1 Timothy, and also the key words for each chapter. So far, the key verses that I have chosen are:
1:18-19
2:1-2
3:16
4:12
5:21
6:11-12
but I need other opinions on which YOU think they are. I am also having a hard time finding key words. I REALLY want other people's opinions. Thanks!

I haven't chosen key verses yet, but the key words I'm studying for 1 Timothy 1 are: commandment/charge, mercy, law, conscience, save, eternal, immortal, invisible. I also thought faith would be good, but I already studied that word this summer. I considered studying doctrine, but decided to wait until chapter 4 for that word.
BTW, welcome back to Memverse, Courtney! Hope you stay active longer this time. :) And keep on doing actual sessions and not just chatting. :P

I am debating between 1:5 and 1:15 for the key verse for Chapter 1.
For key words, I'm going into detail on "doctrine" "charge" and "law" and maybe one or two others…

For me, greek words are really easy to memorize and you don't know what they will ask on the test. Last year I picked about 70 and memorized 20 more. I'll probably end up picking a lot.
Courtney M.
How exactly do you study Greek words? (Just curious)
Everett C.
I sort of use a Strong's Concordance. I use Logos Bible Software and if I hover over a word it shows the greek from the Strong's and other lexicons.
For cross-references to the greek words, I think there are to many possible ones in the whole bible. I usually look up the word in Logos and it shows every appearance in the bible. I pick just like 5 of them. I memorize a lot of greek words though without getting cross-references for them.
Courtney M.
How do you know which ones to pick?
Everett C.
I just pick whatever looks good:) I pick words that appear a lot if they aren't "and" but more like "godliness." Godliness does appear six or eight times.
Courtney M.
Which version do you use? For chapter 1 I have decided on studying the key words "charge/commandment", "faith", "mercy", "doctrine", (although I will go more in depth on that in chapter 4, "law", "conscience", "save", "eternal", "immortal", "invisible", "commandment", "love/charity", and "commit". I pick a lot too. :-)

I use ESV

So what key words have you chosen so far? And what are your key verses?
Everett C.
I"ll post them later

1:18-19
2:8&11
3:15-16

I decided not to choose key verses until I've studied the chapters in depth, so I only have one for Chapter 1: verses 18-19.
And then for Chapter 1, I studied the key words, "law(fully)," "conscience," "faithful," "sinners," "mercy," "grace," and "blaspheme(r)."
Courtney M.
Great! I am definitely going with verses 18-19 for chapter 1. It's harder for chapter 2. What key words are you studying?
Anna Mieczkowski
@Courtney - here are the key words that I chose for chapter 1:
Commandment (vs.1, command - vs.18)
Strange Doctrines (vs. 3)
Love (vs. 5)
Law (vs.7-9)
Mercy (vs. 13&16)
Foremost (vs.15&16)
Fight (vs. 18)
I haven't gotten really deep into them yet, so I might skip a few still.
I haven't picked key words from chapter 2 yet, but I am planning to very soon:)
Courtney M.
Thank you for the suggestions.
I haven't been feeling well the past few days, and my parents have also been gone a lot, so I'm not having nearly as much time as I would like to study. Could you guys pray that I'll get better and that I can do my best, no matter what the circumstances? Right now it doesn't seem like this is going to be a very good Nationals for me. Oh well, at least I got there. God's will be done!
Matthew Minica
This is REALLY neat. Yesterday in our Wisdom Booklet curriculum we studied four key words from 1 Timothy 2:1! God arranged it so that we would be in this Wisdom Booklet (8) just when we were studying for this year's Nationals! Thanks, God! :D

All right, here. I have compiled a list of my key verses for the book…:
Verses 18 and 19 are the key verses for Chapter 1
Verses 1 and 2 / 2 and 3 (vs 2 for sure) are the key verses for Chapter 2
Verses 14 and possibly 15 or 16 are the key verses for Chapter 3.
Verse 12 is the key verse for Chapter 4
Verse 21 is the key verse for Chapter 5
Verse 12 is the key verse for Chapter 6
ChiefofSinners II
My key verses for Chapter 2 were verses 8 and 9. I know they don't pop out as important verses, but they kind of nicely summarize the duties of both the men and the women, as they are prescribed in the chapter.
Courtney M.
My key words for chapter 2 are:
Pray, v. 8
Sobriety, vv. 9, 15
Silence, vv. 11, 12
Charity, v. 15
Holiness, v. 15
Supplications/Prayers/Intercessions/Giving of Thanks, v. 1
Truth, vv. 4, 7 (also verity, v. 7, and honesty, v. 2)
Mediator, v. 5
Shamefacedness, v. 9
All, vv. 1, 2, 4, 6
Ransom, v. 6
Good Works, v. 10
Saved, vv. 4. 15
I tend to choose more key words, and then kind of separate them in my mind as to which are more important, and study them with that mindset.
Courtney M.
