Has anyone read the Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder? I have, and they're really good! I don't remember what book it's in, but I really liked it when Laura rocked the seat for Carrie in school! That was funny. I don't remember if the books talked about Laura's dog, Jack, but did you know that in real life her family had a dog named Jack and a little brother named Freddie? I also liked the part in Little House in the Big Woods where Charlie was being bad and distracting the men from their work and jumped on a bee's nest! That was funny too. I could say lots more about them, but then my comment would be way too long. I'll just keep adding shorter comments to say all that I want to say.

I really like Little House on the Prairie! It's been a few years sense I read the books, but they were good!

I don't remember what book it's in, but I really liked it when Laura rocked the seat for Carrie in school! That's in Little Town on the Prairie.I like those books I think that I've read 6.

I like those books, too. Did you know that there are also other books that different authors have made in the Little House style that are about Laura's mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother? I liked the books about Caroline a lot. There are also books about "Rose", Laura's daughter, but I don't think the stories are very good.

No, I didn't know that! I know that The First Four Years are kinda about Rose, but I didn't know there was a series about her!
Did you know (it doesn't say in the Little House books) that one time Laura and her family were visiting their cousins in the wintertime, and they went to school, and a mean bully named Gus shoved the little kid's faces in the snow, when he did that to Laura, she turned her head and bit his thumb so hard it bled! I read it in a Childhood of Famous Americans book. My family usually calls this series "COFA".

No, I hadn't heard that! Have you read all of the Little House books? I said up there that I "really liked" them, but I actually LOVE them. I kind of forget how much I love the books because of how bad the movies are.

I haven't read all of them, but I really want to sometime when I have LOTS of free time to myself. But maybe I could start reading them when I go to bed.
I haven't seen the movies, but my parents have, and that's why I've never seen them!

Emily H

Yeah, when I read the Little House books, it was mostly when I went to bed. How many of the books have you read?
Oh good, I'm glad you haven't seen them. Most of them are not very good at all. There are hardly any that stick anywhere close to the books.

We watched a few episodes but we stopped because we felt there was too much "public school" atmosphere and focus on young boy-girl romance drama and relationships.

I haven't seen any in a long time so thankfully I don't remember that! :) I mostly remember what so_sew mentioned… A lot of them I only saw once because they were awful and we didn't want to see them again. And the ones after season 7 I've never seen. They could have made them so much better…. :(

@so_sew, did you read all the other books? I heard about them, but never read any.

The public schools weren't really that bad back in those days, but I definitely agree with you about the romance drama. I LOVE the books though!

When I was little, I read the books. I thought that they were very good and well done. :) We have also watched the t.v. series they made out of series. We got the show on DVD and we really like it. The video series was not so good from a "follow the book" perspective, but as a show, it was uncharacteristically family friendly and clean, which is definitely a good thing. :)

As the show series progresses, they get worse and worse. That is why we decided not to get Season 9. The earlier ones and some of the later ones were great though!

I think I have read These Happy Golden Years, (because I really liked the name), maybe Little House in the Big Woods, Little Town on the Prairie, and I think all of the other books with Nellie Oleson in them (If Nellie Oleson is in all the books, (Which I certainly hope she isn't), then I haven't read all of them). Oh, yes, and I don't remember, but even if Nellie Oleson wasn't in Little House on the Prairie, I think I have read it.

I have two of the Rose Years, but I haven't read the rest. I also haven't read the Caroline Years, but I have read the rest, and they were surprisingly good!

The Rose Years and the Caroline Years aren't part of the Little House Series, are they?

@Courtney - The Caroline Years is actually my favorite set out of the whole series.

@Mommy's Helper - The Rose Years and the Caroline Years are not a part of the original Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. But other sets have been written about Laura's great-grandmother (Martha), grandmother (Charlotte), mother (Caroline) and daughter (Rose) in the same "Little House" style.

Oh, I knew about Caroline Years and Rose Years! But I didn't know that there was a Marta years and a CHarlottte years1 Did you know that when (well, Iif you've read Little House in the Big Woods, you already know this) Laura had a doll named charlotte?

I have read all the Little House books, but I have not seen any of the movies. Has anyone been to the Laura Ingalls Wilder Days event in Pepin, WI? Our family went a few years ago, and it was a lot of fun!

That sounds like lots of fun :D but we have never been there. Right now I am reading the Charlotte, Martha and Rose books.

I haven't personally read all of the little house on the prairie books, but since we live in Minnesota and because I wear skirts all the time and we farm, we've had people ask us if I was like the little house on the prairie people. (We might pretend to be, but we're not quite that old.)

Okay. I normally wear pants. I'm wearing green shorts right now :) And a pink shirt, which makes me look like a flower :P

I never wear jeans. The biggest reason is bc I don't have any. But I wear jean shorts! :)
Right now, the only long pants I have are black sweatpants, pink sweatpants, bright pink REALLY thin pants, and khaki pants.

Why skirts all the time? don't you ever wear jeans or shorts?
@Cari
  1. I don't like them
  2. Skirts/dresses are more modest and feminine
  3. I like skirts

:)

Hate to jump in…
Skirts may cover more to an extent, but in some cases it would be more immodest to wear a skirt than pants (though not many). I do agree though, that they are more feminine.
Pants can be perfectly modest depending on how they were made. But considering most pants today are highly immodest (too tight, etc.), it can be very difficult to find proper fitting pants anyway.

I personally feel pretty much the same as you - I much prefer skirts over pants. And because I'm so used to skirts, I often feel slightly awkward wearing something that goes between the legs (when I need to wear them, even though they are perfectly modest).

Yeah… like when you're riding your bike, swinging, or something like that, pants are better.

My pants all are either too big (I don't really wear too big ones) or just right. I hate tight or loose pants. I'm wearing khaki pants now, and they are comfortable, proper fitting, and modest. They are also feminine pants. :P

Yes, there is definitely a difference between boys pants and girls pants. And I don't think skinny jeans are appropriate for anyone. We always burst out laughing whenever we see a guy in skinny jeans XD

Did you ever consider that it might be unkind to laugh at a guy like that? Did you ever consider why the guy was wearing that style of clothing: to honor his parents?

We laugh from the semi-private inside of out car, and what parents ask their kids to wear those? Besides, usually the ones we see wearing them don't look like the kind of people who don't know how to honor their parents.

Me and my sister wear them. ^And my brother has one too! :P^

I have a LONG answer to that on the 2nd or 3rd page of the Modesty topic (on the 7th page back on the General Chat Topics). I'd appreciate it if you'd read it. It'll fully answer your question. :)
