I guess there are a few more "small" people than I thought!

Well the two I know were, peter, who slept on his watch and Joseph, because the pharaoh made him a ruler.

Once there was a boy named Clark. Whenever his friends asked him what his favorite christmas carol, Clark would start saying the alphabet song:
A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, M, N, O, P, Q, R, S,T, U,V, W, X,Y and Z.
What did Clark mean?

Wow Im4given! I got the one left part I just could not think of a word with nine letters that contained one. :)

You're right Sarah. The word I had in mind was "telephone". :D

A squirrel found a barrel with six ears of corn in it and decided to take them back to his home. He took three ears out of the barrel per day. How many days did it take him to get all of the corn back to his home?

Here's a couple riddles you can ask someone else orally:
If a farmer had twenty sick sheep and one dies, how many are left?
The answer, of course, is nineteen, but many people who hear this question say 25 because they think you said "twenty-six sheep" instead of "twenty sick sheep".

Two farmers had a potato-peeling contest. One of them peeled 384 potatoes, the other peeled 400 and won. How many potatoes did both farmers peel altogether?
Answer: 784. Many people will get this one wrong because "400 and won" sounds like "four hundred and one".

@Jackson
All I got from that was 2009 :P

@Im4Given
I totally did not think of that! Next time Matthew tries to pull one of those on us I'll be ready! :D

Alright, Jackson. I'll do better than that.

What does the following say?

YY U R YY U B I C U R YY 4 ME

By the way, the answer to my previous joke: It would take the squirrel six days. Each day, he would carry out three ears - one in his arms and two on his head. :D

I looked it up too. :P

When Fred came over to Robert's house, he told him that 1920 dimes were worth more than 2000 dollars! Robert immediately looked in his coin collection. He had two 1920 dimes! He quickly ran to the bank to exchange his two dimes for 4000 dollars. However, the bank lady told him that while 1920 dimes were worth more than 2000 dollars, his coins were only worth about twenty cents. How is this possible?

Because they were either counterfeit coins or play money

If a dog's tail is called a leg, how many legs does the dog have?

I think Fred was pretty silly to want to exchange his TWO dimes, which happened to be minted in the year 1920, for 4000 dollars. The bank lady was correct: two dimes from the year 1920 are worth about - well, twenty cents.

That was a cool riddle, by the way.

@Jackson: Yes, that's what I meant.

@Zachary: I have three guesses:

Five. If legs AND tails are considered legs, and a dog has four legs, and one tail, which is considered a leg - then it has five "legs".

Four. You can call a dog's tail a "leg" all you want - that doesn't make it a leg! So the dog still has only four legs…

One. If a dog's "tail" is called a "leg", then a dog's true legs cannot also be "legs" (because then there is no distinction between "legs" and "tails"), so a dog would then have only one "leg" - what we currently call a "tail" - and what we currently call "legs" would be something else…

It was the bottom of the ninth. 3 balls and 2 strikes was the count. The score was Blue Jays 3, Red Sox 4. There was a Blue Jays player on second. A Blue Jays batter came up to the plate. He hit the ball over the fence! However, they did not win. How is this possible?

Okay, here's a ridiculously difficult "riddle" I found in my Geometry book. It has me totally stumped; I want to see if anyone else can figure it out.

A publishing company has hired six translators to translate their books into Portuguese, Russian, Swahili, Chinese, French, and Arabic. By coincidence the last name of each translator begins with a letter that starts the name of one of the languages. Each translator can efficiently translate two of the six languages, but no two of them can write the same two languages. None of these translators write the language that starts with the first letter of his last name. Can you name the two languages that Mr. A. can write? Here are a few hints:

  1. Mr. S. can write Russian and Portuguese.

  2. One of the translators can write both Russian and Chinese.

  3. Mr. F. and Mr. R. can write the four languages that do not start with the letters of their last names.

  4. The translators whose last names begin with the same letters as the languages that Mr. R. can translate can both write French.

  5. Neither of the translators who write Portuguese can write Chinese.

If you can somehow figure this out, please tell me how you did. Like I said, I am totally stumped!! :)

I'm working on this one… I'll edit my post with the answer when I figure it out.
EDIT: Mr. A can write Chinese and French. To figure this out, I made two grids, each listing the translators and the languages. Then, using the hints, I put an "x" or "o" in each box. For example, since Mr. S can write Russian and Portuguese, I put an "o" in the boxes under "Mr. S" and next to "Russian" and "Portuguese."
P.S. It actually had me stumped for a little while, too. :-)

I did the same thing you did, but for some reason I just couldn't figure it out. I guess I should've thought through it a little more. :)

Also, if you don't mind, would it be possible to explain step-by-step how you did it? I myself could only get three clues out of the riddle (other than the ones already given):

  1. Mr. S. cannot write anything but Russian and Portuguese.

  2. Mr. F. cannot write Russian and Mr. R. cannot write French.

  3. Only two translators can translate Portuguese.
