@AstroLeah
I used SOS last year and it worked fine. My mom loves the automatic grading. Could you tell me what you did not like about it? I took Algebra 1 and American History last year and am taking Geometry this year, so any feedback from you would be great. :D

I'm in … Well … I don't know what grade I'm in. :P I'm studying Geomotry with Teaching Textbooks (last year of math!!!!), Chemistry with Aplogia, and my history, literature, and Bible program are all in one book called starting points. It's a book that teaches you to read/watch things looking through a biblical worldview. I don't remember who it's written by, and I left it downstairs in my room, and I don't feel good so I'm not going to go see.

@Febah: It is so great to see you on Memverse! I am looking forward to seeing you at Nationals. How is your studying going?

@Little Miss Sunshine: That is so cool! I have always wanted to learn French.

Hey Febah! Just wondering, did you take Geometry already, or did you go straight to Algebra 2? I have been wondering which course is better to take. I am also in 9th grade.

Febah M.

@Mommy's Helper: I guess was a bit too lazy to check when I posted before…my math book is by Key Curriculum.

@Courtney: Great to see you here too! Studying has been going OK..I finished the verses last week and am focusing more on 1 Timothy now. How's your's going?

@SoulWinner: I haven't done the formal Geometry course yet, but am familiar with most of the concepts. I just went straight to Algebra 2.

You are doing great on your studying! I think your'e going to beat me again… :-D Great job on finishing the verses!

This hasn't been a great year in studying for me, because first of all we had three birthdays in the beginning of September, and then my parents were gone for a week on a Carribbean cruise to celebrate their 20th anniversary, so I was babysitting a lot during that week. Finally, this last week we were in Big Sandy (near Tyler) for an ATI family camp, and I hardly had any time to study at all! I am not finished with my verses yet, and I am a little bit behind on my study of 1 Timothy, but I catching up! Pray for me that I will be able to do my best in the month before Nationals.

Febah M.

@Courtney: Thanks! (although you're probably wrong about me beating you :D) You have been pretty busy compared to me this past month. I will definitely be praying for you and Matthew!

@SoulWinner: Yeah, I found it mostly easy, too, which is one of the reasons I decided not to spend a year on it. Oh, by the way, I spent the last month or two of 8th grade studying for an exam that tested quite a bit of Geometry, and afterward decided to skip it this year since I had already studied most of it. It might be different for other students, depending how much you've been exposed to it previously.

I'm homeschool and in 9th grade and as u see have a reputation for being late :-) (one of the bad things I got from my mom and dad lol jk) for math I'm going algebra 1 biology for science (apolageta (sorry about spelling I try that's where I lack)) I'm doing tapestry of grace for history, lit, and church history, and geography. :-) I'm doing spanish 1 with rosetta stone:-) I love it and I'm using music ace for music and I play the keyborad… think think I think that's all lol I'm a very average student thought I am thinking about taking a gifted class for american history because I no a lot about it for a collage credit but idk it sounds scarey :-) any thoughts?

Emma

I play the piano! That does sound scary. I don't like history. Thankfully, we have no history books for me anymore!
What?!?!?! You don't lack anywhere else besides spelling?
Haha! I lack in spelling a little. In math I lack a little. For math I'm learning to multiply double-digits.

Let me see…
43x11…
473!
But I know a trick for multiplying 11s. Ok, how about
22
x24?
It is 528.
And I didn't use a Cal Q. Lator (who is my very good friend) and I don't know any trick for that problem. Wait… It's Saturday! I don't do school on Saturday! I shouldn't be doing this! I need to get off….
Quick!

School is something that I do not like and my brother
Caleb does not like it either. We ask my mother,
"How come we have to do it? It's
Outrageous!" (Just kidding, we really don't say that!) "Well, when you grow up and move
Out of the house, you will have to know math to buy
Land and property." "But we can use a calculator!" we say.

False - that's what your poem is -
And silly mockery:
Liking school isn't far from me.

School is something that I like -
(Enjoyment doesn't mean liking.)
Homeschool is invigorating!

Own it - you learn a lot.
Or didn't you know I appreciated that?
'Diculous.

Matthew Minica

"Wait a minute! You're doing Biology, right, Matthew? That's what I'm doing. It sounds like you have the same sort of school as I do (comparing what we have to do for each subject, and all). I can't imagine doing Biology in 9th grade! I find it very difficult doing it in 11th! But, I should be doing Chemistry right now, not Biology. Do you have to do all the experiments and memorize all the terms?"

(This post originally came from the practice tests forum.)

Yes, when we were researching what I should do for Science this year, the Apologia Biology was supposed to be for grades 9-11… so we got it. It's hard, but it's really enjoyable - I'm learning SO much! I do do most of the experiments (only skipped one so far) and memorize all the terms. Hey, that shouldn't be so hard for Bible Bee'rs, right? :)

Efca8a58376d35a79ababc988cf86b5c?s=128&d=mm

Dani(elle)

I'm in 9th and I'm doing bio, it is very hard and I can't stand it lol. I have a hudge test coming up and I am so scared! I have a low A and I need to keep it! I got a B on my last test. I have like 48 definitions and so much material… it's apologia and it's module number 6. Aaah! I am very glad that my mom it not having me disect animals and such like my brothers had to do.

61754db001e2e2ef52b2b9212cdda1ec?s=128&d=mm

Matthew Minica

That's exactly the module I'm on! :) It is hard, but I try not to think about how hard it is, I instead think about how fun and interesting it is to learn so much about God's creation! I am going to do the dissecting - haven't gotten to that part yet. The only thing I've dissected before is a cow's eye. I'm not sure if I'm looking forward to it or not. :P

His Servant

"It's hard, but it's really enjoyable - I'm learning SO much!" Same here! I don't have to do the experiments - Woohoo! I don't think I could ever dissect anything - it would totally gross me out!

Yes, I memorize all the terms, but even though I'm a Bible Bee'r (that's a very weird word…just saying) it's still really hard! Are you saying that memorizing all those terms is easy for you? By the time the test comes around, I've pretty much forgotten them all! Memorizing Bible verses and memorizing science terms are two totally different things! Though, I kind of wish that since we go to all the work to memorize all the terms, they would ask them ALL on the test, what do you think? It would raise my science grade a lot of they did that…

What are you doing for math, Matthew?

Oh, and are you EVER going to answer my question on the prayer requests forum???!

Efca8a58376d35a79ababc988cf86b5c?s=128&d=mm

Dani(elle)

Oh no I'm not saying it's easy at all! It really really really hard! I think it would b nice to have them all on the test but it would take so long to write them all out that it would not be worth it. :-) Even though I'm not Mathew I'll answer ur question about math.. I'm doing algebra 1 Saxon math I don't like math cause it takes so long. I no it's not supposed to be long but I'm not the best at it LOL.

I went through Apologia Biology last year. Module 6 was the toughest with its double s terms, but I was able to memorize most of the terms by the time I got to the test. Here is how I did it. 1. write the terms and their definitions on a bunch of index cards. 2. look at them every night after you go over them in your book. 3. Go over them several times while you are studying for the test. 4. Go over them while you are doing your chores before the test, if you can. That was how I did it, and I think I got an A on that test. By the way, they might give you 45 terms to memorize, but they only give you 5-10 in the test.

Efca8a58376d35a79ababc988cf86b5c?s=128&d=mm

Dani(elle)

I'm sorry haha but I have to say how much I love that picture lol…. WOW! That sounds tirering! Haha…. gosh not sure if I want to work that hard haha jk. Yeah I no that there is only 5-10 but u still have to no them all cause u don't no which ones to study! Ah! So u have to study them all!….:-)

61754db001e2e2ef52b2b9212cdda1ec?s=128&d=mm

Matthew Minica

I was just saying it SEEMS like it should be easy to memorize the definitions… Actually, I don't find the terms that hard to memorize. It's not like Bible Bee when you have to get them word-perfect.

I am in 9th grade and doing Algebra 1 in math…Can't wait till I've finished it :D I am in Physical Science with Apologia.

What is everyone's school plan…when are you all hoping to have this school year finished and when will you graduate?

A3806e5a47ff9fa527155bd268c37099?s=128&d=mm

Do you take 2 weeks per module? That's probably why it's easier for you to memorize them all. I'm trying to fit a module in 1 week : Also, are you doing Chemistry once Biology is finished?
61754db001e2e2ef52b2b9212cdda1ec?s=128&d=mm

Matthew Minica

Yeah, I'm doing 2 weeks per module. Actually 3 for module 6. I can't imagine fitting a module into 1 week! How long do you have for Science per day? I have 45-60 min.
Am I doing Chemistry next? Not sure, but I think so…

I'm doing Saxon Geometry for math this year. I've already been through Algebra 1 but not 2.

How is school going for y'all? When are you planning on finishing? I hope to finish pretty much all my subjects by the end of March and do Vocabulary and Science through the summer/fall.

I finish my first of two History books very soon…I just have three more papers to write = so excited!!

Hmm… depends on what kind of papers. :) I like writing when I know what to write about, but I'm pretty bad at brainstorming. :)

I get to decide what I write, but it has to be History related, so I find it pretty easy. My last one was on the 13-15th Amendments…that was a slightly boring topic, if you ask me :)

I'm homeschooled! For math, I do Teaching Textbooks which are g.r.e.a.t! :D

What do you do for history?

Ur so lucky! I did T.T. In 5th grade and loved it! But it was 2 expensive, and my mom thinks it's to easy for me. I think it was perfect though. Lol

For math I'm taking Switched On Schoolhouse Geometry and Saxon Algebra II. For History I'm using Rod&Staff 9th grade. I love how it shows you the history from a purely chrsitian perspective. I used to be in public school so I know how secular textbooks teach history. Thinking about I have no idea how I have any free time at all… :)

Actually, I'm 14, but I need to get ahead in Math because I'm striving to be an engineer and engineers need a good foundation in advanced mathematics. I'm getting Algebra II out of the way now to make way for the harder maths in the years to come such as Calculus I & II, Trigonometry etc. Enjoy Algebra I now. Life gets harder :/ jk :D

I use the Life of Fred series. Basically, each book is a story about this 5-year-old stick person named Fred who teaches math at a university, and the math concepts are woven in. For example, distance=(rate)(time) problems are introduced when the army kidnaps Fred and two of his students chase after them some time later, and you have to figure out how long it will take them to catch up. My 10-year-old sister actually reads them for fun. What do you use?
