Anyone on here graduating this year?

@Danielle: I do NOT like Algebra 1 at all…and I am really NOT looking forward to Algebra 2. I have heard that if you like Algebra you won't like geometry but if you don't like algebra you will like geometry.

That would be good news but considering I will be skipping over Geometry :( I guess I won't know if I like it or not.

Well, someone like me who hopes to go into biomedical or robotic engineering doesn't really have a choice in Algebra….

@Matthew - That's funny! I was just talking to our neighbor and she uses Notgrass as well, and says it's one of the best History curriculums ever :)

Very good job at the proof :) Have you learned about the AAS/SSA/SSS/SAS/ASA theorems yet? I have, and am so confused by it all!

Ouch. I honestly would rather go hungry because I didn't have a job then have to do Engineering math. That's awesome that u like I though!!!!!

Yea, I learned them last year in my Saxon Algebra 2 mathbook. Maybe the others are learned later in my current mathbook or in a later one.

Those are just formulas… the hard part is remembering what they stand for!!!

Actually, with the Law of Sines, those are actually pretty easy! Triangles have always been easy for me.

EDIT: And with the abbreviations, you have to be very careful with spelling….

Right. We use SSS, AAAS, SAS and HL for proofs. Most of the time they are easy.

I thought it was AAS not AAAS.

Hey, there are more triangle congruence theorems than that. These are four that I know that work for any triangle: SAS (side-angle-side), ASA (angle-side-angle), SAA (side-angle-angle) and SSS (side-side-side). Four that work for right triangles are HL (hypotenuse-leg), HA (hypotenuse-angle), LL (leg-leg), and LA (leg-angle).

And I think you're right when you say that those who don't like Algebra will like Geometry and those who do like Algebra won't like Geometry–I rather enjoyed Algebra, but Geometry is annoyingly difficult. :) (I'd take Algebra 2 over Geometry any day!)

You know you're a homeschooler when you don't know who "Justin Beiber" is! (I was guilty of that one……)

You know you're a homeschooler when you aren't sure what grade you're in. (GUILTY!)

You know you're a homeschooler when you read more books in a week than public schoolers read in a typical year! (GUILTY GUILTY GUILTY!!)

I guess I'm not a true homeschooler because I failed(epicly) in all three of those categories! :)@Ian You're right because AAAS is the same thing as AAS. If you know two of the angles in a triangle then you know what the last one will be. My math curriculum says AAS, don't know about the rest of you. Hope that made sense :) @Danielle I'd rather have a well paying job and a family and be full and have to do math then wonder where my next meal is coming from :)

Sam- I don't fit any of those stereotypes. Lol :) do know who 1 direction is? U really have to be homeschooled to not know that one! Lol and there is nothing wrong with that!!! (Just for the record I do NOT like 1 direction!!!)

I think I've heard of One Direction, but I don't know a single thing about them. :)

@Danielle~ I've heard of them, and know people who like them. I don't have a reason to like them or not to like them since I don't know that much about them.

@SoulWinner~ Don't worry, I know not everyone's like this! And I agree, I'd rather have food and a job. Whenever I'm annoyed with Algebra, I think "It's gonna be easier for my wife to be a Proverbs 31 woman if she actually has a house to take care of!" and "I want to be the guy that sits in the gates 'cuz he's debating with the elders, not 'cuz he's begging for money!"

I wish I didn't know who Justin Bieber is, I know I'm in tenth grade, and I SO wish I had more time to read all the books I want to read! :)

@Sam & soulwinner - true, I may have spoken a bit rashly there, but that is really how I feel sometimes about math in general. Lol

@Danielle Apparently we don't fit this criteria and I have yet to meet a homeschooler who does meet this criteria so… does that mean every homeschooler is not your typical homeschooler? Or could you possibly be falling for that stereotype invented in public schools about homeschoolers? We shall see… :D

Good point! We definitely didn't make these stereotypes up lol. I do know homeschoolers though that know nothing about the outside world almost. Lol

@Sam: I don't know who "Justin Beiber" is. Sometimes I don't remember what grade I am in. And I definetly read more books in a week than public schoolers do (like reading 28 books in about 3 weeks)

YES! WOO! I used to be all of that! I haven't had all that much time to read other books these past 2 weeks, and the books I do read outside of school are books I've read before. And I used to not know who Justin Beiber was……….I'm not sure if I want to know anymore……..

Sam: I don't know who Justin Bieber is really at all, the only time I ever sort of get mixed with what grade I'm in is when I've just started the next grade, and though this week I haven't been able to read much at all, I usually read quite a bit- but, I don't know if I read more in a week than a public schooler does in a year. I know some of my public school friends read a lot more than I do!!

I can tell you from experience that not including the outliers( the extremes of the data such as the book worms who can read as much as 100 books in a year and those who read no books at all) the average publicschooler reads at most 5 books per year. And those are school assignments.

Wow…….I couldn't bear to read only 5 books per year! That would be torture =)

Well the media figured that would happen so they invented this device called a television. It plays moving pictures that depict scenes that have absolutely no relevance to real life. The children, teens, and even adults of this era are mesmerized by it. This combats their need to read until they no longer feel like settling down and grabbing a good book. What is America coming too…

Hey…you all should watch Captivated. (I know…its a film but it is really good and it is about the power of the Media and how we need to be careful).

No, there is nothing wrong with films (well, some films) but Captivated is really good because it shows how everyone around us is impacted by media…films, computers, tvs, etc…
